I just realized, after looking at Herms's Longest Days thread, that the day the Artificial Humans appeared (May 12, Age 767) was on the 17th anniversary of Goku's defeating the Red Ribbon Headquarters (May 12, 750). That's interesting that Dr. Gero would choose that particular date to launch his revenge.

I thought it was Kami...

I always thought that it was Kami given the wrinkly skin. Now that I know its Dr. Gero that mustache really sticks out at me making me wonder why I thought it was Kami for so many years.

That is interesting though that you thought it was Imperfect Cell. I would never have thought it was Cell.

I thought that the Daizenshuu says that Christianity and Buddhism exists in the DB world (e.g. Namu shouting "Namu Amida Butsu!" during his Tenku Pekeji-ken). Either way, it's not as if it's "apparent" that almost everyone in DB worships the same god. In fact, religion isn't really touched upon in DB (as in, people believing in different gods and whatnot). I can remember one instance, at the 25th TB, where Kuririn prays to God to not let him be matched up with any of his stronger friends, to which Piccolo replies, "God's just Dende." :)

Doesn't the King of the World say "Let us ask of the gods!" before the Cell Games (meaning that they'll send a hero like the boy who defeated King Piccolo)? Or is that one of those plurality problems?

He says "kami" rather than the singular "Kami-sama" or the plural "kamigami", so... yeah, it's a bit fuzzy. Remember that he's addressing the people of the world as a whole, rather than those of a specific religion, though.

Yeah, Daizenshuu 7 says that Christianity and Buddhism "apparently" exist on DB Earth, and are the object of people's faith, but people don't know about the real God (now there's an un-PC message for you). Besides shouting Namu Amida Butsu, after hitting Goku with the Tenku-Pekeji-Ken, Namu flat-out says he believes in the Buddha and so does not kill (Viz leaves this out). Goku also wondered whether Bulma was gathering the dragonballs to make them into a string of Buddhist prayer beads. And Upa does form his body into a cross shape to scare off Dracula Man, although I suppose that's not quite conclusive. In DBZ movie 12 there's a guy holding a cross, and crosses on tombstones too I think.

Although Kuririn's response, Ineenda yo, sono kami ga/"that god's not there", makes it sound like only one is meant, or at least that that's how Kuririn took it. After all, there's only one god Kuririn knows not to be there.

Granted, I don't know much about Japanese, but if he doesn't use the plural "kamigami", then shouldn't he be referring to just one god? Either way, I think it's just one of those roundabout sayings or phrases that people have, like "God help us all".

Japanese is ambiguous when it comes to plural / singular. There are a fewspecifics from time to time, but if something isn't explicitly stated to be singular or plural, it could be either.

Well, kami-gami specifically means multiple gods, but confusingly kami on its own can also potentially be plural. For instance, there's the stock phrase happyaku-man no kami, "the eight million gods" (with "eight million" meaning "a lot" or "all of them").

Wait, here's something. If Kami/Dende is god, does that mean in the Dragon Ball universe, there really IS a correct religion?
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Perhaps, for the people of Earth, since the child of Katatz/Dende is "the God of Earth". But obviously, there are even higher gods than him. I don't think there really is a form of worship for gods in the DB universe though, and they don't really command it either, apart from that time Kaio tells Piccolo to call him "Kaio-sama" or when Enma, perhaps playfully, rags on God for telling Goku that Kaio's stronger than him, to which God panickingly shows respect to Enma in a somewhat over-the-top way.

I just realized that there are 42 discs in all for the Dragon Boxes. There are also 42 volumes of the tankoubon.

Coincidence?

Yes.
Especially since you're not even talking about the "real" Dragonboxes, just the non-identical Funi releases.

Studying that doesn't seem to have too much of a point when you're friends with God and visit him occasionally. :p

I dunno, maybe the dragonworld's Darwin came up with something different after sailing around the world and seeing all the animal people. :P

... On Gohan knowing god... well... not only is he personal friends with god, but he was friends with him before he became god, and could well be part of the reason he took the job in the first place. So... Gohan: the godmaker?
