Have to go with Super Sonic's take. Sabat's original take on King Piccolo definitely gave me the air of "aged Piccolo", even after his youth is restored, I can't complain. Revenge of King Piccolo was weird for the aforementioned reason.
As for the Japanese, well, I always found Piccolo sounding... awkward in Japanese, which fits him is later Z versus DB, but in the case of his pappy they take it up to eleven and it works great.
Piccolo Daimao's voice in the (Funi) dub and original.

I actually haven't watched the Daimao arc in English sans one or two lines out of curiosity. I gotta say I'm not a big fan of Chris Sabat's Piccolos, especially his Daimao.
Anyway, when I first watched the arc, my thoughts immediately went to the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid, where Takeshi Aono voices Colonel Campbell. And I have to say, if I imagine his or Kami's voice in English, it's now Paul Eiding, who voices Campbell in English. His voice would fit the characters so well.
