Was anything said on where GT was going to go?
After listening to the last two podcasts something came across my mind, a few times I have come across people saying that GT was originally going to be about 100 eps long. If this is true is there ANYTHING (even a rumor/internet urban legend) on what was going to happen after the Shadow Dragon saga?
Re: Was anything said on where GT was going to go?
I remember reading on here that apparently the Super 17 arc was mean to be like 50 or so episodes and Gohan was to become a SSJ4. I call BS though.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

As boring as that arc was, if that were to occur, I wouldn't be able to take it.DBZ Mick wrote:I remember reading on here that apparently the Super 17 arc was mean to be like 50 or so episodes and Gohan was to become a SSJ4. I call BS though.

I foresee this going of topic and becoming a GT bashing thread. So please keep this on topic.GotenDaisuki wrote: As boring as that arc was.
Re: Was anything said on where GT was going to go?
That wasn't really off-topic.
Anyway, I had heard rumors that it was intended to end with the Baby arc, but I am sure that's false because I read an interview that said when SS4 Goku was designed they had intended for Vegeta to become a SS4 as well. Another rumor was that the Super 17 arc wasn't planned and was shoehorned between the Baby and Shadow Dragon arcs to make the series run longer. This is the first I've heard about 100 episodes, but I have heard about it being cancelled before it could complete its run.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I thought it was going to end after the Baby arc, then they extended it to keep up interest for Final Bout?

I thought similar. End at Bebi, though with Final Bout on the horizon, they extended the series. That didn't really help with the bad ratings, so it got shit-canned shortly after.Rocketman wrote:I thought it was going to end after the Baby arc, then they extended it to keep up interest for Final Bout?
I'd love clarification on the matter, I've heard lots of rumors, and I'm not sure what has basis anymore. lol

If GT had gotten better ratings it probably would have run longer, but none of the specific rumors about planned additional story arcs or longer episode counts have any basis in fact.
Considering that Final Bout wasn't even a GT game in Japan, I'm not sure how much sense that makes. At any rate, that's another rumor that gets tossed around a lot without any actual source to back it up, so I'm pretty skeptical.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I thought similar. Yeah, that's from Perfect File Vol.2.Saiga wrote:but I am sure that's false because I read an interview that said when SS4 Goku was designed they had intended for Vegeta to become a SS4 as well.

Interesting. I had always thought that was a fact. Never bothered to get a source for it though. I thought it was originally slated for close to 100 episodes.Herms wrote:none of the specific rumors about...longer episode counts have any basis in fact.

Well, I think that we won't get anything we already know from the interviews, series itself and Perfect Files.
It's bad that Japan is that isolated in these matters (not counting language barrier) that we can't get any info from inside.
Like it is common in US movie and TV show industry, where directors and writers are on DVD commentaries or interviews and telling us that they for example intended more scenes like this or this character instead of vest in a rugged T-shirt etc.
If there will be someone from inside saying, that they planned this and that (or maybe not at all), it will be awesome to base fan mangas or stories on info like that.

Not to mention that Final Bout tossed in a bunch of Z characters anyway.Herms wrote:Considering that Final Bout wasn't even a GT game in Japan, I'm not sure how much sense that makes. To be fair though, excluding Future Trunks, the only Z characters they tossed in were from the Buu Arc (SS Goku, SS Vegeta, SS Vegetto, Ultimate Gohan, Pure Buu), which would serve as a transition point. Everyone else is actually in GT.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Not to mention that Final Bout tossed in a bunch of Z characters anyway.

I know, but that's still Z. And, if I'm going to nitpick, the Z version of Super Saiyan Goku could be from either the Cell arc or the Boo arc.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:To be fair though, excluding Future Trunks, the only Z characters they tossed in were from the Buu Arc (SS Goku, SS Vegeta, SS Vegetto, Ultimate Gohan, Pure Buu), which would serve as a transition point. And you forgot Piccolo (who could also be from either the Cell arc or the Boo arc), Freeza and Cell.

Its irrelevant. Since its a fighting game where powers aren't scaled, and since you can't transform, its effectively the same Goku, as he was dead and didn't physically change.Piccolo Daimao wrote:I know, but that's still Z. Piccolo fought Gohan in GT, and Cell and Freeza were fought in Hell. Final Bout came out after the Super 17 Arc already aired...

Re: Was anything said on where GT was going to go?
You know what I mean. Both Gokus in the Cell and Boo arcs respectively look physically the same, that Piccolo could be from the Cell arc, Boo arc or GT since all those incarnations look the same too (although the last time we saw Piccolo fighting without his turban and cape was in the Cell arc) and, once again, Freeza and Cell could be from anything, since their appearance never changes.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Its irrelevant. But of course, this is just nitpicking. It doesn't really matter.

Re: Was anything said on where GT was going to go?
Yeah, I agree. There's a lot of things I enjoyed about Dragon Ball GT and I thought it was a good series on the whole, but Super 17 wasn't one of those things... definite low-point of the story for me, it had almost no redeeming qualities at all. The space exploration arcs or the Shadow Dragon battles, on the other hand, I wouldn't have minded to see expanded. Maybe with some more time they could have explained why Base Chibi Goku is randomly the strongest being in the universe. :p "All of us put together can't put a scratch on him, we have to give our energy to the only person that can handle this... our 11 year old father!" That must've been some killer training he and Uub did.GotenDaisuki wrote:As boring as that arc was, if that were to occur, I wouldn't be able to take it.DBZ Mick wrote:I remember reading on here that apparently the Super 17 arc was mean to be like 50 or so episodes and Gohan was to become a SSJ4. Goku was already likely super strong after 10 years of nothing but training. Uub was strong as he expected yet handled him in base.

Re: Was anything said on where GT was going to go?
Eh, I think that's a bit irrelevant. It was a Dragon Ball product that was heavily influenced by GT, made by people whose name were on the advertiser's card at the beginning of each episode of GT, the one thing on air that had 22 minutes a week to influence their buying habits. It's obviously a product meant to tie into the show. You have to imagine they would at least want the show around long enough to boost sales. I don't think Bandai wanting the show to last long enough for the game is too-much of a stretch.herms wrote:Considering that Final Bout wasn't even a GT game in Japan, I'm not sure how much sense that makes. What I think is more in question is the game itself extended the show. Do I think it's possible? Sure. Is there anything proven one way or the other? Nope. The rumors of the game extending the show have been around since the game first came out and/or the show was still airing. It's been nothing but something people said on rec.arts.anime or somesuch. Someone would have to dig through and see where it began.
