No. It's the same opening from the early episodes on the Dragon Box actually.AgitoZ wrote:That's cause they used the opening for the movies on the Blu-Ray. Yes it is. I've just seen both openings on my HDTV. The only difference is the Dragon Box have Japanese text, while the Blu-ray has none.AgitoZ wrote:No it isn't.CyberpunkCentral wrote:No. It's the same opening from the early episodes on the Dragon Box actually.

So, the openings are off again?

But. It. Isn't. The footage from the opening is taken from movie 1 and is spliced with stuff from the series. The little timestamp thing that appears in the logo at the beginning is proof that the footage is from the movies.CyberpunkCentral wrote:Yes it is. I've just seen both openings on my HDTV. That doesn't even make sense. Even their 3rd or 4th generation masters still have the Japanese title cards, they just chose not to use them. This is proof of nothing.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:It's obvious FUNi isn't using the original film masters, since the title cards are in English.

What timestamp? I don't see anything. Also, the other movies have slightly different openings.jjgp1112 wrote:But. It. Isn't. Look at that little thing above "HD Remastered".

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Okay, now I'm starting to get confused? I don't recall a timestamp on any of the Blu-ray releases?
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Well I might put in my 1.1 just to confirm but but Kentai's blog mentions something about this:
The comparison he is referring to is the image posted above by Pokewhiz7

If CyberpunkCentral is right than its a weird movie by Funi' to compare it to a restored opening which isn't even included in the level sets. The restoration special also includes the following comparison between the Dragon Box and Level 1.1 - cool, right? It would be except for one little problem - it's bullshit, for a number of reasons. First off, see that little oval-shaped tag in the bottom-right hand corner hiding underneath the "HD RESTORED" box? That's an EIRIN Certificate number, which are only given to theatrical movies approved for public exhibition in Japan. So, FUNi's "Clean" OP is from an archival print of the first Dragon Ball Z movie, or 'The Dead Zone', NOT an archival print that would have been used for the TV series. Secondly, the Dragon Box footage they're using has credits laid on top of it, which in 1989 would have been optically printed onto the film, causing further analog degradation of the print. Finally, the opening/ending footage would have been animated on 35mm and then resized to 16mm after the episode titles were applied - the larger format film makes including credits easier, after all. The opening footage is, in terms of real-world resolution, the absolute worst point of comparison FUNimation could have chosen

If the opening is the same except for the theatrical stamp there, I don't think it's a big deal.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I don't get what the problem is. The Levels never claimed to be what the Dragon Boxes were. From what I understand, it seems that their goal was to provide the best looking version of the series available in HD with a Blu-Ray format. In my opinion, that's exactly what they did.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Okay. After seeing the openings for the Orange Bricks, Movies (Blu-ray), Dragon Box, and Level sets, I can officially say that the Level sets are the only sets that have the timestamp. But Movie 01 doesn't. So I don't know exactly what that proves? In the end, it really doesn't matter. It's the exact same opening from the early episodes of the Dragon Box, only without the Japanese text. That's it. No big deal.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Movie 1's original footage has that "stamp" (or more accurately, eirin mark). You can see it if you have the Dragon Box version of Movie 1, the original Pioneer single, or the UUE single (in the Japanese video track).

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Dude, like Puto just said, DBox The Movies, the UUE Single, and the Pioneer single ALL HAVE IT. The Double Feature blu-ray doesn't, because they used a different textless opening and have no alternate angles.
