Is it weird that the commercial actually gets me exciting for something like GT? -.-
Their excitement works like magic!
That is a pretty good commercial.
How timely that the podcast is doing GT episode reviews. :3

Well, it might be important to keep in mind that even if that's all "they" had to do, we still don't know who "they" are yet. In other words, we don't know if that was a FUNimation decision or a Nicktoons decision. Hell, it could have even been a Toei decision. I don't know to what degree FUNimation can make decisions about their "Dragon Ball" properties, but I'd have to imagine that many decisions have to be approved by Toei.

I thought the same thing!
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

The original music for GT was just about the only thing that kept watching it when most of the episodes were god-awful.

What's worse about replacing the music is that Menza's soundtrack is probably the single worst dub soundtrack of all time. I wasn't the biggest Faulconer fan but I became somewhat of a fan of his work when I heard Menza's music. Oh well, wonder if we'll see a return of "Step into tha Grand Tour."

If we're lucky maybe they'll leave in Dan Dan and even do an English version of the full song for the ending of the final episode.

Based on the music in the new Nicktoons promo, I'd say that's highly unlikely.

Don't forget about Kai.
I was talking before Kai since I remember CN stop airing DBZ after the whole Ultimate Uncut run ended IIRC?

PERFECT chance for a GT redub.

But no.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I think we've established by this point that redubs are, except in select rare occasions, financially impractical. They would be awesome things from an artistic perspectives, but unless they're justifiable from an economic perspective, they don't happen. So "perfect chance" is a bit of an overstatement.

Was FUNimation's dub of GT even that inaccurate? Aside from the narrator being all dark sounding (leftover from the US Music), I think the voice acting was really pretty good on the whole.

Some episodes were either hit or miss based on the screen writers for that episode or something.... episode 15?/16? had a really accurate script although the final episode was pretty horrendous.

I was just thinking that Funi could redub GT at this point to make things consistent (ie. Kid Goku's VA change) and to re-release such a GT dub on DVD/Bluray (or a possible Dragon Box GT release, at best).

But yeah, no.

GT's dub was generally okay. Pan's voice was a little annoying, but so is the character, so whatever. Some of it strayed too far from the original script, but overall, I'd estimate that it was maybe a consistent 80% accurate throughout.

However, as others noted above, based on the admittedly awesome trailer, it's a strong possibility that the airing will not be the Green Brick version with Dan Dan and the ending songs dubbed and with the original score. So kids will be exposed to the Menza score.

As an aside, was there ever a reason given for not airing the Buu Saga? Its dub was decent, and it would have fit perfectly after the Kai Cell Games if the version with the Kikuchi score was used. Kids watching all this stuff for the first time are going to be like WTF?! when Mr. Satan shows up with Majin Buu. Then they're gonna have to ask their parents to go out and buy the last three Orange Brick sets to catch up... oh... way to go Funi marketing!

I have to say that each time that I see the commercial on tv, I cringe at the fact that they are skipping the Buu Saga. I was hoping with the success of Kai in the US that they would just do their own Kai dub for it.

Maybe CN has the (non-Kai) rights locked down for DBZ in the US?

In which case, they would probably also have GT locked down.

This promo was very epic IMO.
As for the Boo arc, I have 3 senarios:
1) They will show a recap episode, like the GT ep 1-15 recap.
2) They will show an add advertising the Season sets or some thing else with Boo arc, so that "you can learn what happens between DBZKai & DBGT in this new, extra story!"
3) Just nothing... :?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I think it has to do with edits. GT is a lot less to look through than the Boo saga, and the content - in general - is probably less offensive in the eyes of the Nicktoons censors. Remember how the movies got delayed and some supposed it was due to additional edits?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Yeah, it is a really cool promo.

If they do have an ad for that purpose, I bet it will be the Blu-Ray Levels, regardless of it not being to the Boo Arc yet. FUNi will want to push it's new product.

Some of you are saying that they're using "rap music" in the promo. Some of you just don't know rap. That's actually Brian Kendrick's WWE entrance theme.

I do know rap, I just thought it was some new crap I never heard before. Also, I don't watch guys in tights acting.

Regardless, for clarification purposes:

Nicktoons - Dragon Ball GT Promo BGM:

Taken from the Carlin Production album - 'PUKE' by Chris Goulstone and Guns and Roses guitarist; Bumblefoot - WWE theme for Brian Kendrick - "Man With A Plan" - performed by 'Chapel of Rock' written by Chris Goulstone.
