My problem with the Bluray covers it threefold:

-The artwork doesn't represent the nostalgia factor they seem to be trying to hit with this release and its trailers, as well as the era of the show represented on the disks themselves. This also blurs the line between this and Kai a lot.
-Funimation hasn't evolved their branding for DBZ in a long time. The initial artwork for this looked promising, but in the end we ended up with the orange spine and a drab cover again. This saddens me because Funimation has some of the absolute best packaging in the business. The release of Kai looks great, especiall the new season sets... so why not this?
-It completely lacks the asian influence that this series has in terms of styling... which gets me because their One Piece releases completely embrace the pirate influence but keep their stylish 'wordgraphic' nature.

With that said, this is my attempt at creating a cover that improves upon these three points while also establishing a new type of branding without abandoning hints of it in terms of color and font style.

I just wish I had a better (600dpi!) scan of that DBZ image...! And some better Funi back-of-box legal. Then I'd actually print this up and use it. :)

Wow, Ashura, that's really a great cover! I don't know if it's just the image quality, but the legalese at the bottom kind of fades in and out and Shenlong's whiskers cut through some of the text on the back, but otherwise, it's awesome. Great job!

Those cutom covers you've made look so much better, wow!

But about FUNimation covers being the "best", I disagree, the official Dragon Ball Z Level sets have a too basic and simplistic look that do not make up for it, it's as if FUNi isn't giving two craps, which disappoints me.

The Kai Part covers are definitely great, as for the Season sets, not much changed, they've added Shenron and some colour to the background.

The Japanese Dragon Ball Kai covers look awesome, FUNimation seems to like it simple but DBZ Level sets are way too simplistic with a lot of space for design.

Actually, the DBZ Level sets seem to be a "remake" of the old DVD Orange Bricks' covers design, sigh.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The DB packaging doesn't stack up well against all their OTHER packaging. They release 10001028102901290129 things, and the only really cool packaging in the Dragon Ball line is the Kai stuff and the Dragon Boxes (which they didn't really design themselves.)

All their packaging for everything ELSE is very cool, sleek, or creative. FLCL, Trigun Badlands Rumble, Trigun, Summer Wars, FMA, One Piece, etc. etc.

Also, thanks! :)

I love the way that custom cover looks with Goku on Serpentine Road looking down at Piccolo and Gohan. I'd also like to say I find the level sets to be very boring in terms of artwork, I mean they went in the right direction with using the original artwork on the Dragon Boxes, it looks great. Kai's decent, but I'd like to see something like this in any future releases.

Yeah, I need a hi-res 300/600dpi scan of the legalese to fix it, or at least someone to transcribe it so I can remake it in hi-res. Really, a hi-res scan of the back cover in general would be super helpful. That, and actual digital caps of the screenshots.

Good catch on the whiskers! If someone turns up with a good scan of the main artwork, I'll go ahead and fix that too.

Thanks!

Depends on the time I have... I'll at least polish this one if people are kind enough to help me find some better elements. What I'll probably end up doing is uploading the psd file so you guys can fiddle with it and make your own covers for the other volumes if you want though. :)

Here you can found renders of the characters in HQ:

The logo would be better. Here you can found HQ images of the logos along the series:

Also, some texts from the back are from a scan. You should write them with whatever program do you use. The texts will look A LOT better than the scan's texts.
Maybe you can make some covers?

Wow Ashura really great cover! And I agree with your points, Funimation could potentially do much better. And as you said their Kai parts were superb, I really liked the horizontal back cover.

Please do more of the covers that looks amazing :)
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

This is a really cool idea. For the first cover, I like it a lot, besides the # near the 1 (not that that's a big deal...). The second one is great too, but I might've saved that for 1.2 or whichever set is more appropriate for the images. Then again, I'm not very familiar with what happens in which episode of Z, but when I think of the first set of Z, I think of Goku/Piccolo vs. Raditz.

My only only nitpicky issue as typographer on that cover is that the text on the back isn't aligned to text frame with last line to left, as this makes it harder to read..... Damn, I'm ill :D
