When you ask it in the way you did, and let me quote 'Is it edited out the ass like it is on tv' it does require a bit more than just 'nope, it's unedited.'dprez wrote:Just curious bro. Especially when it's a topic that not only has been discussed to death, but is actually answered ON the box art they show on major retailers like Amazon.

Well I am no fan of Kai so I wouldn't know. But is it really so annoying to you? I mean, couldn't you just let dbboxkaifan tell me it's unedited? Or simply politely tell me yourself? I'm aware that all home releases are uncut, but with Kai I am not sure, which is why I asked. Honestly, if you would have replied, "nope, it's unedited", that would have been a much better response, and I would've said, O,ok cool", and that would've be the end of it.MarcFBR wrote:When you ask it in the way you did, and let me quote 'Is it edited out the ass like it is on tv' it does require a bit more than just 'nope, it's unedited.'dprez wrote:Just curious bro. It's annoying you couldn't spend the minimum effort to look, and had to ask in such an annoying way.dprez wrote:Well I am no fan of Kai so I wouldn't know. But is it really so annoying to you? Well my apologies for annoying you so. I see you are easily annoyed so I will try to not make the same mistake in the future.

The quality of DBZ Kai on Blu-ray is fantastic, these screens might not do justice for the actual source but it's close.dprez wrote:So Kai on Blu-ray with a badass HDTV really looks awesome huh? I heard that the Japanese cast were better back in the day. Do you watch Blu-ray Kai in English or Japanese? Is is edited out the ass like it is on tv for the home releases?

Credits to: Chouonsoku (for the screens)
Picture quality: Superb
Music placement: Erm, pretty good at times (Toei probably couldn't afford someone better than Nagasaki to do the damn music placements).
I've got a 34cm HDTV FullHD, but watching it on an even bigger LCD/Plasma would've been sweet.
Anywho, maybe it was for the better that Dragon Ball Kai didn't feature Majin Boo's arc, we'd only listen to Cell's BGMs (I suppose), plus the animation on Boo's arc is really shitty at times, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I love Cell's BGMs but hearing them over and over repeatedly gets frustrating.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:

Re: Do you prefer to watch Dragon Ball on Blu-ray or DVD?
Personally, I don't care for the image quality of Kai. It generally looks soft to me, and the redrawn scenes don't help. If it were any more than a few bucks more for Blu-ray like it is, I would just get it on DVD. Now, the normal DBZ Blu-rays, those look fantastic.

I do agree that Marc's initial response was not phrased in the best way, so noted on that.
That being said, it's kinda strange that you've been so heavily involved with the community as-of-late, and have even been quoting some of the sections here on the larger website in answer to other questions, and yet didn't bother to quickly look up whether or not "Kai" was as heavily censored as, say, the CW4Kids version.
One thing we can all agree on is that it's fascinating to compare the remastering process Toei did for "Kai" versus what FUNimation did with their (now discontinued) Blu-ray version of non-Kai DBZ.

Re: Do you prefer to watch Dragon Ball on Blu-ray or DVD?
I pretty much dig what's on the Blurays so far and think those look the best, but the DVDs aren't bad either and despite the weird colors I don't regret my Dragon Boxes one bit.
The thing about Kai is they were really going for a smooth digital look when they retouched the footage, and that's what the remastering revolved around. It's heavily DNRed and a bit softened/blurred. Notably, though -- which I think saved it from looking terrible -- it's not edge enhanced or warped sharp.
So all of the shots have a sort of dreamy quality to them. It looks good for what they were going for, and I like it a lot as its own entity, but I wouldn't like this done to DBZ prime. How Funimation handled it is the best way in my eyes, and I hope Toei follows their example when they work on bringing the classics to Blu-Ray.
The remastering on the Kai footage was done by Q-Tec, btw... which I think I mentioned before. We're lucky we didn't get another Blue Submarine situation with this stuff since they inevitably overdo the filters... like 11 year olds on Youtube.

Re: Do you prefer to watch Dragon Ball on Blu-ray or DVD?
Yes I understand. Honestly I was simply just asking an innocent question, even though I could've easily just checked myself as to whether or not the Kai home releases were edited or not ( Which I was pretty sure were not, but like I said, Kai is a different beast all together, and I am no fan) I was simply not sure, so I asked someone who knew themselves, who had also responded to my previous post, as It related to the topic at hand. I didn't know it would offend someone so much If I asked a question that was apparently obvious to so many. It was also only a small part of my post of questions about Kai...VegettoEX wrote:I do agree that Marc's initial response was not phrased in the best way, so noted on that.

I must say it is quite obvious that the 4kids version on channel 5 would be censored compared to the home versions, but I only asked a member who apparently owns the Kai DVD's, as to what extent the Kai home video releases differ from the Dragon Boxes I own, aside from the obvious removal of filler, ect...
I fully agree with your post, although I feel my question did not warrant such an aggressive response from a member who the question was not meant for.
What I take from this, is that I should check the facts before I ask a question I could easily answer on my own. Lesson learned. We can all move on now...
Edit: Dragon Ball on DVD appeals to me more. Maybe because I'm a fan of classic rock and whatnot, but I like things to remain the way they were when they were made, and to be presented in a certain way that the fans who weren't around to enjoy them back then, the opportunity to feel the way the original fans did. That's why I love the Dragon Boxes.

I agree with you, honestly, but for Dragon Ball Z Kai it's intended to watch in HD, on Blu-ray, otherwise I wouldn't even bother.dprez wrote:Edit: Dragon Ball on DVD appeals to me more. I don't like Kai, it looks soft and hazy. I much prefer the Dragon Box over Kai in terms of picture quality to be honest.

Saying that, you do realize the FUNi BDs were far closer to the original broadcast color scheme than the Dragon Box, right?dprez wrote:Dragon Ball on DVD appeals to me more. The only thing that the FUNi DBZ Level Blu-rays have in common with the Original Japanese Broadcast were the colours.dprez wrote:I find that hard to believe....

Hell, they didn't even include the Next Episode Previews nor the Japanese cards on the episodes.
So much for being close to the Japanese broadcast.

And besides, he was only talking about colors, the Dragon Boxes in general are obviously closer to the original broadcast.
