Why do people continue the dub wars constantly?
On YouTube the users, not all, but the majority just keep on defending which version's the best.
In a way it's relative to the console, people defend and take it as if it were their girlfriend or family member, though it's just a machine/dub/audio.
If the X person wants to discover other DB/Z/GT/KAI dubs (or original Japanese tracks) they're available, lastly, I for one won't go around say "A sucks, B's way better and less gayer, you fag!!" (I don't smoke, by the way).

It's Youtube
people on there don't like to except the fact that everyone is not the same. so they try to debate you on something that is un-debatable because it's an ''opinion'' and if you still say ''Well I much prefer the Dub anyways'' they'll just call you a dumb ass
I like many versions of Dragonball Z
The Ocean cast
The Funimation cast
The Japanese cast
but don't let people on there get to you most of them don't know what they're talking about anyway
for gods sake they are still going around saying akira toriyama is making Hoshi
The Ocean cast

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

"I chose this ergo it's part of me, when you call this bad you call me bad."
That's most likely running through their mind. A very large chunk of Dragonball fans are children...because this is a kids show. That means the vast majority of the time there's no stepping back to try and form a rational analysis of what's upsetting them and they just work in raw emotions.
Don't let it get to you personally, which it can even if you aren't participating in it. If I may get anecdotal, I despise TGWTG material. To be blunt I think it's the absolute laziest, lowest common denominator entertainment on the internet and the modern day equivalent of sprite webcomics. I used to go to blogs, Youtube reviewers etc. that broke apart why exactly they blew a big one. The thing is frustration feeds off of frustration and I quickly found it was better just to ignore the fact that TGWTG even exists. People are going to do what they're going to do no matter how much you wish they wouldn't. All you can do is try your best to avoid it.

People get either incredibly invested or not invested in the least (nothing in the middle ground, which is where we expect all down-to-earth, awesome people here in this community to be), and when they are presented with the reality that other people might not view something in the exact same light as them, their reptile brains go into attack mode.

It's not just with DBZ, it's something anime fans in general do. I have to say is DBZ is merely one of the greatest examples.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
Re: Why do people continue the dub wars constantly?
People grow up with something and refuse to let go I guess, or down right hate anime if it's not in english. Most fans of the original appreciate why people prefer the dub, while a minority of them may bash dub fans. Same with many dub fans bashing the japanese version for all the obvious reasons, which a lot of us love and prefer it for. In the end it's pointless to argue about it.

It's a part of every fandom, really. Video games, music, movies, sports, even politics. Some people just have little desire or ability to recognize "the middle ground."DBZAOTA482 wrote:It's not just with DBZ, it's something anime fans in general do. The simplest way to put it is... it's YouTube. With people not having to say things face to face, they have no issues with flaming others who have differing opinions or being complete jackasses whenever someone disagrees. It just happens that YouTube seems to be the place where such people congregate and continually butt heads.dbboxkaifan wrote:On YouTube the users, not all, but the majority just keep on defending which version's the best.
I don't think anyone should have to defend or justify what they like, people like what they like and nobody has the right to belittle them for it, whether that's the Faulconer or AB scores for DBZ or whether Brian Drummond or Christopher Sabat make the better (English-speaking) Vegeta.
It all comes down to a lack of respect, really.

Simply, they're nerds. Not just the type many on here would admit to doing, but the stereotype of the elitist nerd who also happens to be socially awkward. Remember how some guys said they refused to watch the Spider-Man movies over the organic web shooters and others told them they needed to get laid? That type of nerd.dbboxkaifan wrote:On YouTube the users, not all, but the majority just keep on defending which version's the best.

I always assumed they were the younger, impulsive side of the fanbase.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Re: Why do people continue the dub wars constantly?
When someone says, "I dislike [version x]," fans of [version x] tend to take that as, "Fans of [version x] have poor taste." So, [version x] fans retort by saying, "No! [version x] rocks! [version y] is stupid!" Fans of [version y] then get the same idea: what they hear is, "Fans of [version y] have poor taste!"
Of course, in the case of Dragonball, one of those versions has two different soundtracks, there's a prior [version w] out there with a minority fanbase, new fans who got introduced by the new and improved [version k] which has an original and a dub plus two different soundtracks depending on which version of the home release you have, and a manga version which has varying inconsistent levels of censorship in the earlier volumes depending on which edition you got which also has a re-release with consistent censorship and inconsistent color pages.
Oh, and one of those versions has two different dubs from the same cast in the earlier episodes depending on if you wanna hear "Kayo Ken" or "Kaio Ken."
For all the fans who take people's differing opinions as a personal attack (which, to be fair, sometimes it is), they're exactly the type of fan who takes this messed up imported of a franchise way too seriously. That, or they really enjoy trying to sort it all out. If you become that sort of fan... well, I guess that's SAD FOR YOUUUUUUUUUU!

Re: Why do people continue the dub wars constantly?
It doesnt matter what subject it is, or what context, people love to argue, it seems like youtube is a great place for general pricks to get a rise out of others, the fact that so many people do this, and that so many fall for it is astounding. The internet is the place for people to act like they wouldnt regularly act. Personally, its why i often keep my distance from it.
Short answer: People are just silly, they defend and argue and attack and condescend.
I can honestly say I've never argued on the internet, I think its wildly ridiculous and too often immature.
And kids are...kids, they have growing up to do, they bully and say things stupid. Some people never actually outgrow that, but its nothing to be bothered by. AS older people, we should just either ignore or keep it simple, sometimes older interwebs people act the ”mature tough guy”. I find that immature too.

I don't even know why there are FUNi vs. Ocean debates considering both dubs are incredibly flawed, for reasons both versions more or less share.

They're flawed in *your opinion* statments like that is what causes pointless debates. to some people they may be flawed but to others they're perfect. I've always been a firm believer in ''If you can't except the fact that other people have different opinions on things, Then you shouldn't be aloud to have an opinion of your own'' Also this isn't an attack on you.Kuwabara wrote:I don't even know why there are FUNi vs. Ocean debates considering both dubs are incredibly flawed, for reasons both versions more or less share.

And anyway, the dub wars continue because a large group of people think that just because they grew up with something in a certain way that it's intended to be that way or even "better" than the way it was intended.

I never claimed to be stating objective fact or anything. People can believe whatever they want, debates like that just don't pertain to me. To turn it around on you, it's just your opinion that certain debates are pointless. Their validity is completely up to it's participants and those outside it, a matter of opinion.samuraix123 wrote:They're flawed in *your opinion* statments like that is what causes pointless debates. to some people they may be flawed but to others they're perfect. I agree that it's up to the people if a debate is pointless or not. but I wasn't attacking you sorry if it sounded like I was. but in my opinion it is pointless because people are arguing over a personal preference which neither side will ever win no matter how much evidence someone trys to bring to the table.
Edit - Also to just clear something up. I'm talking about personal preference in what they're favorite shows, food, ect. there are obviously some things that can be debated on with evidence

Well, you know that better, but as we probably like lot of the same series, I happen to see most of discussions with you.penguintruth wrote:I'm not that popular.

But it's present in more topics and I really hate when I or someone other asks for Japanese language track in game and everybody goes: Errrr, damn japanophiles, it's released in US, so it's in english. Why do you need to have everything in Japanese? We don't, we grew up on english version and the gameplay is actually what matters, bla blah blah......
PS: I agree with all your opinions in this matter, but I'm tired from this anglocentrism so I don't step in.
Actually, I grew up in completely different language world, so English can be as alien to me as Japanese is to english speakers,
but in all objeticity, I found the Japanese voice acting better and in franchise games it's true to the original series,
and at most times, the english acting is actually pretty bad. I still didn't healed my ears from Samurai Warriors:
