Kai VS Manga
I've been seeing some comments within the Dragon Ball fandom by fans who feel that since Kai is near 100% faithful adaptation, there is no need to read the manga anymore save for reading the Majin Buu Arc.
I'm curious what do you think? I personally feel that even not counting the Buu arc's exclusion in Kai, you still should read the manga to see the brilliance Toriyama was able to portray in creating exciting fights even though its just comic stills.

Re: Kai VS Manga
They're two different mediums. They each have things they other does not. One does not "replace" the other, but simply adds the amount of things you can enjoy and investigate.

Re: Kai VS Manga
Kai could never replace the manga. If anything it simply replaced the original anime for fans who hate the filler and pacing, and it definitely replaced the original FUNi dub for fans of the english adaptation.

Re: Kai VS Manga
The manga is definitely not replaceable, but if you know me you know I love Kai more because of the voices (the English dub especially), the filler being cut out mostly, and most importantly the music (it all goes downhill starting with Part Five ). Also, the English manga isn't exactly the most faithful adaptation. If Kai had a Boo arc that'd be awesome, and I could kiss my manga goodbye. But then again, the manga is better in other respects. For example, the clashing of different ways characters are drawn in episodes in Kai are obviously nonexistent in the manga.
So mondo lame.

Re: Kai VS Manga
I'm just gonna throw this out there since it seems too often that people forget that when you say manga, it covers all 519 chapters. That said, Kai really only covers about 43% of the manga. So even ignoring the fact it excludes the Buu arc, it also excludes an additional 194 chapters of the manga. Either way, I'd still say that anyone fully interested in the series should read the manga.

This is exactly how I feel about it. That being said, I'm not much of a manga person. So I still enjoy Kai for what is was.dprez wrote:Kai could never replace the manga. They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)
"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Re: Kai VS Manga
I find it hard sitting reading mangas - actual physical mangas (online is fine). So automatically Kai wins. I need sound, voice acting, and the like rather than still images. Kai got me back into the DB franchise after nearly 10 years, so I owe it anyway.
