TBH I can't see Mirai getting any stronger. He's clearly pushed to the limit.
Not to count the paradoxes with Young Trunks around who would be entirely confused.

That's where things get iffy. There is no evidence to suggest that Gohan's Ssj2 power changes when he is angry or not, only that he requires anger to reach the form itself. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that with anger or not, Gohan's base, Ssj, and Ssj2 form are all weaker than Vegeta's respective forms during the Boo arc. Therefor Gohan got weaker and Vegeta got stronger.

Except his power always shot up as a kid when he got angry, so why wouldn't he as a SS2?

Sure I suppose, but he still would have gotten weaker from 7 years of sitting on his ass, just like anybody else would. We also never see Gohan get a rage boost while Ssj2, but I'm sure kid Gohan would still be able to have one as a Ssj2 if a certain situation created the opportunity.

Yea, Gohan grew up and matured to the point where he couldn't just let his emotions take over and put him into a rage fueled blood lust. He also got weaker. Gohan not only lost his rage boost ability, but lost power due to his inactivity during peace time. Why can't both of these be right when evidence clearly supports them both. Gohan couldn't get mad to go full power against Boo, which at the time was his Ssj2 form, ( and no, he was not already a SSj2 and speaking of his "rage boosted" Ssj2. , not saying you think this, but some do...I find this thinking ridiculous. ) and earlier we see several instances where Vegeta is commenting on how Gohan is weaker than he was back then.

To be honest given the background Mirai Trunks came from he would have trained his ass off to make sure no enemy more powerful than the Androids or Cell would come and make their reality like his. And I'm sure Vegeta would have also pushed himself even harder and would have a perfect sparring partner in Trunks. I could also see Trunks being a motivation for Gohan to keep training on the side while he took his studies but that might not happen. I think the the battles could have progressed very differently if Trunks was there though, he'd probably be pushing past Gohan's(SSJ2 at the Cell Games) powerlevel much like his Dad and Goku had after all those years of training.
