Re: Screw Attack lists DBZ in "Franchises that need to die"
A new DBZ game, needs to be "new". We know more or less what the story mode entails, we've been there countless times. It's everything else like game modes, characters, the gameplay itself, and.... SOMETHING NEW. What if stories are played out, why not just create a new story, introducing new characters or new moves. Oh, and no more goddamn Super Saiyans. It's bad enough everyone and their brother is Super Saiyan 3, but really... why? Why is everything in favor of the Saiyans? Why not give Frieza a 4th transformation? Why not give Piccolo something? Why not have a lost Android like #12 or something? Why not give the Tien/Yamcha/Krillin a story that make them look useful? Why not have Kami (before he fused with Piccolo) fight a foe he may have encountered in the past and just so happened to reappear? I can go on....you guys get what I'm saying.
Game modes, honestly anything that breaks away from the fighting modes would be fine as long as it's fun and interesting.

Re: Screw Attack lists DBZ in "Franchises that need to die"
Well, at least as we got SSJ3 Brolli, I would love to have some completely new from scratch villain, with great power, something like bosses in Street Fighter, Guilty Gear and other franchises, to have a reason for these power ups.
Not this cliché lame explanation like: ''Vegeta was pissed on Goku's levelling, so he trained so hard then he reached the form''
Yeah, really.......
I will be satisfied to have the Z story and after Buu arc, there goes original in game saga with new villain/villains.
Something like the Hachihyaku was ''reinvented'' in RB2, but he wasn't original at all and not part of the story, as there wasn't any outside the special feature.
The best DBZ video game with altered story was probably Super Butoden 2!! You finish off Cell in the infamous climax battle, but well, that was a fun against what will come.
Yeah, that story was altered version of movie 9 with Brolli tossed in, but it was quite revolutionary in that era and we haven't seen anything like it until the inclusion of movie's character and storylines in 200X.....

Re: Screw Attack lists DBZ in "Franchises that need to die"
Budoukai Tenkaichi and Raging Blast series must die already, the differences between the new BTs and RBs are very minor really, "new" characters here and there or better graphics than before (RB1's graphics are really nice and anime-ish).
Since we're stuck with Spike, they need to come up with a new type of DBZ game, that doesn't suck. Dragon Ball Z For Kinect can go either way, really good or poorly made. Kinect is a fantastic device, it's just up to the devs to make the game work properly.
They could try to do DBZ in 2D like Dimps, or an RPG game because Spike can't really be all that bad to the point of being unable to do other than the BT and RB games. UB proved it.
A game I'd like to see come back is Dragon Ball Advanced Adventures, wonderful DB game, still my top favourite Dragon Ball game of all times. The music could've been kept the original, at least for the intro.

My dream, that will probably be unrealized to be true, is having game like Revenge of King Piccolo or Advance Adventure or Budokai, starting with Dragon Ball and going trough Dragon Ball Z, like manga.

I think the whole list is stupid. Not only does it contain KH which is my favorite gaming franchise but the whole premise is stupid. Who is SA to determine which franchises need to die? I don't like every franchise out there but if people enjoy it, why end it?
Jord doesn't have a avatar because the combination of Jord and a equally cool avatar would cause the universe to implode.

It's just a fun list made for the point of having fun and showcasing how they're having fun with games and used to have fun with certain games but no longer have fun with certain games.Jord wrote:I think the whole list is stupid. No-one knighted them. They just made a list. For fun. And put it out there. For fun.

Re: Screw Attack lists DBZ in "Franchises that need to die"
On the one hand, no one should ever take anything Screw Attack does seriously. It's poorly written, over produced, radio flunkies. Absolutely no one watches a Screw Attack video and thinks, "Yes, this is a serious industry voice".VegettoEX wrote:It's just a fun list made for the point of having fun and showcasing how they're having fun with games and used to have fun with certain games but no longer have fun with certain games.

On the other hand, the game franchises they listed do have legitimate problems (though they do a terrible job discussing them). Focusing on Dragon Ball games specifically:
Screw Attack's given reasons for Dragon Ball games needing to "die".
- 1. Each game looks, plays, and has the exact same story as the rest.
2. At least one "new" game every year for more than a decade.
3. Bandi create weird new scenarios.
Reason three is stupid. First, the presenter is referring video of a game showing scenarios based on DBZ Movies 6 and 12. Second, you complain about the story always being the same, you should at least acknowledge the fact that the developers are attempting to fix it. The new stories could be terrible, but they don't complain about that, they complain they've never seen it before.
PS: Holy fuck, what an aggravating video to watch.
(é) Yeah, I'm famous. Super famous. I start things.

Re: Screw Attack lists DBZ in "Franchises that need to die"
Nothing they said about the Dragonball games is false. We do get a new game every year. We do keep playing the same storyline over and over again. And yes, although they showed Cooler and Janemba while saying it, they weren't wrong to point out that Namco Bandai has been making up characters to try and keep people interested; Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Broly;and Hatchihyack(yes, Namco Bandai made him years ago but they still made him up).
Namco Bandai kind of dug themselves into a hole after BT3. It feels like their strongest selling point at the time was the number of characters you can play as; BT3 was both a blessing to fans and a curse in this respect. Where do you go when you've previously offered fans pretty much everything there is to offer?

-But roster needs to be good..not decent, full enough but enough variety.
Anyways I still say it needs to stop and pause for a good while and think. Time constraints are its main weakness. They need to allow developers (new ones at that) more time.

A 2D/3D action adventure with some beat 'em up to it would work, but it really depends on who develops and if it's done properly.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:Where do you go when you've previously offered fans pretty much everything there is to offer?
Who knows if Spike's capable of doing such game.
To be honest, I'd rather have a small character list to play with than 160 characters that feel like clones with different skins.

People say the same thing about Mario (yes, I'm serious) or Sonic. But the latter's had a "revival" with Colours and Generations, so why can't it be done for Crash?SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:It's been 13 years...it's over. I agree. Their biggest mistake is the one year time constraint. If they had more time, we'd see better products; better products means more sales. I've said this many times, I'm willing to give them my money...I want to give them my money. They just need to earn it.Bluebolt wrote:

By the way, DBZ should be turned into an RPG game like Pokémon or Final Fantasy, fighting games aren't doing justice, and besides, all those staring and shouting the attacks must mean something.

Re: Screw Attack lists DBZ in "Franchises that need to die"
I really want a good DB game right now
I miss the days where I'd buy a DB game, immediately opening the manual reading through every page whilst on my way home, upon starting the game I'd head straight into the tutorial mode learning how to play, loving the music as I played through B2's snowy stage, engrossed with the feeling of nostalgia, happiness.. What happened to the good ol' days, eh? Now all we have is RB at one corner, and UT for consoles and the Kinect at the other. What happened?...
...I'll tell you. Spike happened. If anything needs to die, it's the development studio Spike Co. They need to run bankrupt, and it's workers scattered across the ocean, never to doom another franchise again...

If this list doesn't include every major Nintendo mascot franchise I probably don't agree!
I bet it includes a really edgy opinion like Halo though.

Their Cod part was horrible, I understand the points but it was not entertaining and was more annoying. The video stopped loading right at number 6 but based on other forums, they have Halo listed as #1.
As pointed this video is just two people expressing their opinions, nothing wrong with that. The real voting comes from whether or not you buy the games that come out, so no point freaking out about this video.
10. Angry Birds
9. Dynasty Warriors
8. Lego Series
7. Call of Duty
6. Dragon Ball Z
5. DDR
4. Kingdom Hearts
3. Madden
2. Final Fantasy
1. Halo
Is their list. No franchise should die in my opinion. If they do let the fans through their purchases decide what goes and what doesn't. Opinion pieces like this don't matter in the grand scheme of things because as I have said over and over, money talks, videos on a site with crappy video streaming tech does not.
Looking at other forums, their video isn't well received anyway. Not because of DBZ.
As for Halo, I was under the impression that Halo hate had moved on to COD and that KH was a very popular series.
