What if there was a DB spin-off instead of GT?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

What if there was a DB spin-off instead of GT?

Post by Dayspring » Thu Jan 12, 2006 3:59 pm

GT appears to have been a sequel show than a spin-off. What if, instead of continuing with the established uber-cast, GT or another show simply followed the adventures of one character? The two most obvious routes I can think of are the adventures of Uub or Mirai Trunks.

For Uub, the first saga could be his reason to going to 28th budoukai ending with flashbacks/remakes of his fight with Goku, the second saga would be his training under Goku, and from then on it could be his own adventures in Dragon World w/only minor cameos from other people at best. It could be an excellent way to revisit characters like Yamcha, Tenshinhan, etc, since nobody says Uub has to gain full access to his potential simply because he'll be trained by Goku.

Mirai Trunks can be done any number of ways: his childhood adventures while dodging the androids, a saga in the three year gap between the destruction of the androids and Cell, and adventures after he defeats Cell. Hell, they could even simply redo the Buu saga, movie 13 and GT to match his reality.

Sounds awesome :D After reading DBZ-Elsewhere I've been hankering for some good ol' fashioned character development, instead of "Ahhh! Must be stronger!". :P

Spinoffs, eh? I like the Uub and Mirai Trunks ideas, though I'd like to see something explaining Kid Buu's reincarnation, like having him travel through Hell or something to prove he was worthy of reincarnation.

I'd also like to see something that explained Krillin, Yamcha, Chaozu, and Tenshinhan's lives before the met Goku. :P Or Chi-Chi being trained by Gyu-Mao.
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I always thought it would be interesting to see more of Freeza's backstory, how he came into power, and the history of the planet trade organization.

At one time, one of my many projects was called "DBO", or Dragon Ball Origins, a doujinshii detailing my take on certain characters' backstories. Since the project is all but dead, I feel comfortable sharing the storylines with all of you:

-The annihilation of the Tsufurians at the hands of the Saiyans. Only, instead of King Vegeta taking over Plant, it was HIS father, thus making the current Vegeta on Earth, Vegeta III. Also had Bardock's mother, Ninjin.

-The creation of Ma-jin Buu, and the origins of why Bibidi decided he wanted to create such a horrible being.

-17 & 18's life as humans, and how they become involved with Dr. Gero.

-Kamesennin's training of Son Gohan and Gyumao.

And a few others that escape me at the moment...
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

I definitely would enjoy a Future Trunks follow up (for that matter I'd also enjoy an Uub story as well).

I liked most the ideas that "The S" presented. I definitely would like more history explained, especially dealing with the origins of the position of Kami on Earth and creation of the lookout, as well as the Room of Spirit and Time, and some other things like that.

A show about Freeza and his army would be great. No good guys just focus on the various dealings and backstabbing within Frieza's army.

You could even have appearences from King Cold and Cooler. Every storyarc could feature heroes from various planets that attempted to stop Frieza.

In the past I attempted something similar called "Dragonball Chronicles," a collection of short stories. The stories included:

-The Legend of The Super Saiyan: A thousand years ago, the Saiyans were always in a state of civil war since they had nobody to fight except for each other. One of the tribal leaders, a Saiyan named Kakarotto, was the first to go Super Saiyan. At a festival, when all the tribes would meet once every 6 years for a tournament to decide who was the strongest Saiyan, SSJ Kakarotto killed all the othe tribal leaders with ease. With all the other tribal leaders dead, and Kakarotto proven to be the strongest, Kakarotto was crowned the first King of all Saiyans.

-A Monkey of a Problem: Son Gohan is visited by some nearby villagers, begging him to help defeat a monster that's been terrorising them every full moon. Son Gohan thinks this is a common werewolf, since they're on Mt. Paozu and all, but comes across Oozaru Goku instead. Gohan defeats him easily, and lets him live since he doesn't like killing unnecessarily. A month later, he hears Oozaru Goku roar. Tearing towards the source, he comes across Oozaru Goku killing a dinosaur (my pun on classic King Kong). Goku and Gohan fight, and Gohan notices that Goku is significantly stronger than last time. Having no choice but to kill him, Gohan fires a kamehameha, sending Goku off a cliff. When he investigates the remains in the morning, he worried when he can't find any trace of the monster. However, he does come across a baby boy, whom he adopts and names Goku. Years pass, and Goku runs outside on the night of a full moon because he left his Nyoibo out there. Gohan hears the of an Oozaru, and rushes to Goku's aid, only to see the monster and no trace of Goku. The two battle all night and, right when Goku's about to deliver the final blow, he reverts to his childlike self in the morning. Gohan realises the truth, makes Goku promise never to go out on a full moon because of the dangers of Oozaru, gives him the Dragonball, and dies. Cut to Kami's lookout, who had been watching over Gohan's many good deeds for some time now, who teleports his body so he can have it in the afterlife. Goku takes this to mean that Gohan became the Dragonball.

-Cold Fury: A story about how King Cold came into power. His race, being the most powerful in all the universe, had begun conquering the entire universe. But there was a legend of a Kaioshin becoming angry with their pride, sending the great demon, Majin Buu, to destroy all the planets they had conquered. Millions of years later, King Frost started a campaign to conquer the universe again, but by the time they finished conquering the southern galaxy, Kaioshin and Kibito went to his homeworld and personally told Frost to stop "or else". Cold, thinking Frost to be a stupid, weak, coward, usurps the throne and orders the campaign to continue. Fearing Cold would bring upon Kaioshin's wrath again, the entire race (less than ten thousand) bands together to overthrow the mighty tyrant. Outmatched (barely), Cold is exiled from the planet. In space, however, he fires a massive ki blast at the planet which causes it to explode, killing what few survivors of the planet remained. Not wanting to rule the universe alone, he gives birth to Freeza.
*Note that at the time of writing this I didn't know that Cell's method of reproduction was Namekkian in origin. I figured the Cell Jrs came out of a tail, ergo it was a trait from Freeza's race.

What about the great storm on Planet Namek, Kami's escape to Earth, his fight with Garlic Sr. for the throne of God, and his separation with Piccolo. That would be interesting.

Thought up some more! :P :

-A humor story starring either Mr. Satan or Lunch

-Bardock's backstory

-Son Gohan winning the Tenkaichi Budokai

How about:

-Broli's story, beginning from when he escaped Planet Vegeta

-24th Tenkaichi Budokai and Mr. Satan's rise to stardom

-Roshi's Tenkaichi Budokai victory

-A *lot* of backstories

My problem with backstories is that you KNOW what's going to happen. I mean, I LOVE (LOVE) Star Wars. However, the prequels just weren't that awesome because you already knew the ending.

I think the best option is another movie. Just a nice short little side-story with no bearing on any canon plot.

What I like about backstories/prequels is you know what's gonna happen, you just know how or why it did.

Those are some nice ones, Dayspring!

A couple more that I have remembered:

-The origin of not our Kami, but the origin of Earth's Kamis in general.
-Enma Daiou's training with Kaiousama.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

I find those too weak (though Roshi's budoukai has potential). Broly escaped Planet Vegeta, acted as a typical Saiyan kid until he was what? 8? Then started disobeying his dad. Come 13ish he's a Super Saiyan and he starts destroying everything as in movie 8. This lasts until movie 8.

Satan would be even more boring since his rise to stardom had nothing to do with an insanely interesting budoukai; it was all about "defeating" Cell. The 24th budokai used a punch machine. The top 8 fight. These are simply people who, at MOST, are as strong people like Pamputt or Nam. Satan only had to fight three battles throughout the entire budoukai. Having just been declared the strongest in the world, he figured he was the right person to fight Cell.

I too, however, would love an Enma or Bardock backstory. Why is he still a low level warrior? There must be something he did that got him punished or something if he's taking such offense to it. As for Enma, why did he need the training? Lots of unanswered questions.
