Favourite Ginyuu Special-Squad member?
Who's your favourite member of the Ginyuu Special-Squad? Mine is Recoom, because he's one of those overwhelming and memorable tanks of DB, and he appeared to be the most larger-than-life member, although that may be because he got more time to fight than the others. I like Ginyuu, Butta and Jheese evenly, and Gurd the least, for obvious reasons.

Recoome. Easily. There's no competition. He's the guy that makes the Ginyu force so feared before Goku's arrival. He tanked Vegeta, Kuririn, and Gohan enraged. He looked like roadkill by the end of it, yes, but his mannerisms, his moves, and his stature dominate the battlefield in ways that puny green-guy and the Magma couple, as well as Ginyu himself, can't compete with. Ginyu is tactical and desperate, while Recoome brings sadism to the squad. You really see how much of a sick bastard he is in how he messes with his enemies.

When I think Ginyu, this immediately comes to mind.

Yeah, agreed. I think the fact that he looks like roadkill by the end of it is part of what makes him such a fearsome opponent. Half his hair's burned off and Kuririn's knock to his head made his Eraser Gun blow up his teeth, but he's still able to wreck "Vegeta-chan", put Kuririn out of commission with one kick, and leave Gohan near-dead with a well-placed kick to the neck.OzzyApu wrote:Recoome. Also, I always found him the most amusing, managing to sadistically smash them all while giving his attacks specialized names and doing silly little poses in between, and how his arse was showing after his body armour had been destroyed was a nice little touch of humour.

Re: Favourite Ginyuu Special-Squad member?
I've always had something of a fondness for Jhees. Maybe it's just the look of him that does it for me, or maybe Scott McNeil's little Lister (from Red Dwarf) impression for his voice, but I've also found him my favourite. I can't put my finger on why else I like Jhees. He's otherwise pretty bland. He's pretty much the team's "Jack of all trades", since he doesn't really have anything that he exclusively excels in. Bertta has raw speed, Reacoom has sheer strength and durability, and Ghurd obviously has his psychic powers and time-stopping ability. The only thing Jhees really has going for him is his teamwork with Bertta, and yet I can't help but still like him.
If I were to look back on actual qualities, I'd probably say that I too am pretty fond of Reacoom, because when you analyse him a little, you do see that he is indeed quite the sadistic guy, for all his flamboyance, and there's something appealing about that.

I started a topic about this long ago: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =8&t=16559
Anyway, mine is probably now Ginyu, because he's the only real interesting one, and he posed an actual threat to Goku. Of the others, it's probably Burter I guess.

Re: Favourite Ginyuu Special-Squad member?
I always been fascinated by Burta ever since my early days of playing Budokai 1. The fact that he was unplayable until the Sparking games in 2005 and how he was the largest one of the group seemed to peak my curiosity in his character. Also a very long time ago there was this fan art of Goku as a Super Saiyan fighting Burta on namek, for some reason that always stuck with me in my head.

I've always liked Burter for on reason or another.
It was probably his character design, combined with Alec Willow's voice for him that made me really like him. Add in the fact that he's the largest of the group and his raw speed? Pretty cool to me.
I'm also pretty fond of Jeice and Recoome as well for reasons already said.

I genuinely love Ghurd because he's so aesthetically pleasing. Who knew a four eyed frog man in space armor would look so great in Toriyama's style? That and his time freeze abilities were a breath of fresh air in terms of unique techniques. It was nice to see how the Z warriors handled that sort of situation. I really love the fact that Ghurd and Vegeta have this semi-unexplained rivalry. Also the fact that Ghurd has bad breath making its way into a good chunk of games was fun.
I love to hate Recoome. He's great as a huge condescending asshole but unlike Freeza I get the impression he doesn't know that he is. I honestly think slapping around people to the brink of death with whimsical techniques all the while making idle chit chat and patting them on the back before caving in their skull is just how Recoome is. It's not an act and that's pretty hilarious. That's really why I hate Funi's Recoome so much. A big whimsical sociopath jock is so much more interesting than "duuuuuuh whur iz daaa rahhbutz!?"

I agree entirely with this and I severely hate how the Funi dub changed him forever into an Australian with the worst accent ever. Ruined him completely...Lord Eeyore Haw-Haw wrote:I've always had something of a fondness for Jhees. I think Burter is the win for me. I thought he was pretty cool. Him and Recoome seem to have formidable qualities, Jheese and Ginyu were cowards when backed into a corner.
Re: Favourite Ginyuu Special-Squad member?
I haven't watched the Ginyu Saga in a while but if TFS' version of Racoome is accurate, he is the best character in all of DBZ.

I like Guldo the best just because he died really fast. Everyone else took way too long to die! Yeah.. I hate the Ginyu Squad.

Well I was referring to the North American releases of games around the 2000's. Also, what arcade game is it?DBZAOTA482 wrote:He was playable in an old arcade game.Insertclevername wrote:I always been fascinated by Burta ever since my early days of playing Budokai 1. Nuts, you basically said what I wanted to say. His time freezing ability was very unique, and I'm a little sad that it was only used so briefly. But at the same time...maybe it was used just the right amount...? Kind of contradicting myself there.Akumaito Beam wrote:I genuinely love Ghurd because he's so aesthetically pleasing. Re: Favourite Ginyuu Special-Squad member?
Mine's Jeice, but not just Jeice generally. The specific Jeice from the original Funimation dub with the corny Australian accent. I didn't like the redubbed version in Kai and he's generally a throwaway character in the Japanese version, but that accent coupled with his personality just made him my favorite. If I'm being completely honest, this is based on nostalgia first and foremost, but I can rule the others out.
Guldo is annoying, and you know he's going to die somehow. The time freeze thing was cool, but he's ultimately a canonical joke character. Recoome is Nappa-like and feels repetitive, Burta is underdeveloped, and Captain Ginyu is cool, but ultimately sort of an idiot. Jeice at least had the smarts to run the hell away after watching Vegeta kill the other members.
I know most of the fanbase who frequent Kanzenshuu will disagree with me, if not on my assessments of the other members, on my preference for Sabat-dubbed Jeice circa 1999, but in the interest of fairness, the question asks who your favorite is, and that's mine

Mine is Ginyu. Always loved his body change technique, and for nostalgia, I believe the first episode of Z I saw back in the Toonami days was the episode when Ginyu switches bodies with Goku, that moment gave me chills.

I wouldn't call it "smarts". Any idiot knows that it's better to GTFO out of there after you've just seen Gokuu defeat your comrades, all of whom around your strength. What else could he do?xzero wrote:Jeice at least had the smarts to run the hell away after watching Vegeta kill the other members.

Depends whether you want to add an association of "smart" with dishonour (i.e. running away from the fight), and "stupid" with honour (which includes fighting to the end, even when you won't win). But that's too black and white. As Vegeeta points out, he went back to get Captain Ginyuu, so maybe it was more tactical than cowardice. Or maybe that wasn't on his mind at all, and he was more worried about the fact that he was currently touching cloth, after seeing his partner just get royally beaten. We'll never know.
