Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
Kid Goku survived it easily enough but I have my doubts about his older self. He's much less heroic and noble.
I know he might be able to survive it simply due to overwhelming power but that's not what I'm curious about. I'm more interested in the mechanics of the beam and how it would effect a more mature Goku. Do people here think it would work this time around?

By the time of the Cell arc, I don't think Gokuu was pure-hearted anymore. I think part of this may've been him embracing more of his Saiyan heritage, but either way, he wouldn't survive the Akumaito Beam.

I'd say the Buu arc. I mean bribing some purple old fart with x-rated pictures of your own son's soon-to-be-girlfriend (the same girl you let a behemoth brutalize) as well as your longest and best friend (aside from Kuririn)?! I don't support that. at. all.Piccolo Daimao wrote:By the time of the Cell arc, I don't think Gokuu was pure-hearted anymore. Re: Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
I think that there is always a naturally pure side to Goku's personality, but I have to agree that he's no longer totally pure of heart by this point in the series (maybe that's another reason why he passed down the kinto'un to his sons?). With people like Vegeta influencing his Saiyan roots, as well as his aggressive Super Saiyan powers taking over his personality initially, it's probably no doubt that he has lost some of his purity even in his base form eventually. Even Master Roshi's perverted nature, as well as Kuririn's craftiness effects Goku enough to know how to bribe Old Kaioshin with naughty pictures.
With all of this in mind, It's safe to assume that the Devilmite beam would have actually worked on Cell - Buu Arc Goku.

He could still ride in the Nimbus as of the Saiyan saga, so I suppose Akkuman beam would not work on him.

I personally can't excuse Gokuu's decision to not only throw his young son into a life-and-death battle on the gamble that he might get pissed and reveal enough of his dormant power to actually kill the bastard, but toss him a Senzu too because "it wouldn't be a fair fight otherwise". That's not just stupid, that's sheer fucking arrogance, as well as a complete lack of regard for his own son's life.DBZAOTA482 wrote:I'd say the Buu arc. So, even before the Boo arc, he definitely wasn't pure, even by DB's shaky standards.

Re: Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
Personally, I always had the theory that Goku's decision there was his way of showing Gohan just how much confidence he had in him, though, it is incredibly stupid either way. But as for this...I personally can't excuse Gokuu's decision to not only throw his young son into a life-and-death battle on the gamble that he might get pissed and reveal enough of his dormant power to actually kill the bastard, but toss him a Senzu too because "it wouldn't be a fair fight otherwise". That's not just stupid, that's sheer fucking arrogance, as well as a complete lack of regard for his own son's life.
To be fair, there was a monster who was committing genocide on the whole earth at that time that they really, really had to beat, so I think he can be justified under those circumstances...I'd say the Buu arc. I mean bribing some purple old fart with x-rated pictures of your own son's soon-to-be-girlfriend (the same girl you let a behemoth brutalize) as well as your longest and best friend (aside from Kuririn)?! Although what disturbs me is how Goku would even know where to get X-rated photos of Videl...I guess there's always the chance he was lying to Elder Kai?

Unless Goku is a pre-FPSSJ SSJ, SSJ2, or even SSJ3, I don't think the Beam would have any effect on him.
That's kinda his gimmick throughout the series...a naive innocent pure hearted fella. This trait shares with his sons.

Akumaito Beam in Daizenshuu 2,7,and 3 respectively wrote:-Akumaito Beam
A demonic, ferocious mystery beam that makes the evil in the heart expand and then explode.
-Akumaito Beam
A beam that expands the evil which everyone has in their hearts, blowing the opponent to smithereens. After touching his fingertips to his temples and concentrating ki, he launches a swirling beam at his opponent. Those hit with the technique are wrapped in sinister light, and explode. However, this attack doesn't affect those without an evil heart.
-Akkuman has a rough battle against Goku's overwhelming power, and fires the Akumaito Beam. It's a frightful attack that infinitely multiplies the tiny evil hidden within a person's heart, causing them to explode! Goku is bathed in the Akumaito Beam, but for some reason it doesn't work on him!
Apparently even if you have a very slight amount of evil in you, and no matter how powerful you are(unless you have infinite power), you're still going to violently explode to pieces.
If the person can somehow survive an explosion from within themselves(I guess someone like Majin Boo?...and if their nucleus is intact maybe someone like Cell and Piccolo who can regenerate?) then they may be able to survive being completely killed off from the beam.

Re: Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
Eh? Goku never offered pictures of Videl and #18, did he? Not in the manga, at least. He just said he'd get a naughty picture of that girl he knows, who turned out to be Bulma.
Anyway, everyone has their own idea of what "pure hearted" even means. I think it has more to do with intent than actions, or even thoughts, and I'm not sure Goku ever truly lost it. Even when he offers Elder Kaioshin girly magazines and a picture of Bulma, he's just doing it because, at that point, he knows what works on Kame-sennin types. Having a little insight and being a little less clueless doesn't make you impure of heart, in my opinion. I guess it's skirting a line.

Well, that and there was an invincible, omnicidal maniac running around blowing up the earth. There's that too.

Re: Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
Kinda ironic when some weak early-DB guy has a technique to kill pretty much everyone.
Re: Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
I'd say that Goku didn't change much at all as an adult.
He merely lost his naivety and became smarter. That does not make a person less good hearted.
When he offered some naked pictures to Rou Kaioshin, it was merely from knowing how old men worked (like Bussani said).
It worked on Kame Sennin, so it should work with Rou Kaioshin. He didn't do it out of being naughty or ill-willing.
Also, the enemies he killed as an adult was considerably less than the ones he killed at a kid.

Notice Goku's poor attempts at insulting Oob. He doesn't even know how to insult.
Re: Adult Goku vs. Devilmite Beam
I still don't think it could work on Goku. I mean he could still ride the kinto un.

Another example, This might be a little earlier in the series but, in the Freeza arc, Goku loses his best friend and explodes with anger, turning him into a Super Saiyan, at the end you still see him try to spare Freeza's life.
EDIT: I found something interesting. On the game Budokai Tenkaichi 3, I used Akkuman against Super Saiyan Goku (End). Went to max power, and shot a Devilmite beam at him. It took barely any of his health down. While once I tried Akkuman against Super Saiyan Vegeta (End), it took him down one whole bar of health. This has to mean something.

Wasn't Genki Dama supposed to be able to be used only by pure people?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Normally I wouldn't bring up the games but this post plus the post above it just makes me remember how I went "...what?" when Perfect Cell used the Spirit Bomb as his ultimate in one of the games.
