Nice. It should be well worth picking up these movie packs so I can enjoy these what if? side stories for the first time in ten or so years. O, how I would cherish an american Dragon Box release for the Z movies.Pokewhiz7 wrote:Rather good, though there's still some issues with a bit of lost detail due to brightness/contrast manipulation.dprez wrote:Interesting. I didn't know this. Being movies and all it does make sense though. Makes me wonder how these recent movie packs stack up against the Dragon Boxes and other Dragon Ball home releases in terms of picture quality, since the original movie footage ( Japanese Movie Box ) is so much better than the Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box quality.
This really makes me hope for a Dragon Box Z: The Movies.
Why do the d-box the movies look better then the tv series?

Yeah, I might feel the same way, but color is pretty important to me so I'm kinda torn.Pokewhiz7 wrote:Oh wow, that's not nice. I'd take the double feature over the single, although the colors are definitely not one of its strong points.
Here's a comparison with the single included:
Single:

Double Feature:

Dragon Box:

Also, even though it's only for a few shots, movie 3 has some overly bright scenes:
Single:

Double Feature:

I feel though, that it's not often enough to dissuade me from the footage, unlike movies 1 and 6 which were too bright most of the time.

I was thinking to my self that I prefer the single version much better, then I see that Dragon Box footage and am blown away. BEAutiful.
Double Feature's colors seam way off.

Re: Why do the d-box the movies look better then the tv seri
I think universally the singles are decent, except for movies 12 and 13, which have really nasty colors, and seemingly even worse encoding than usual, resulting in macro-blocking during scenes that have hardly anything happening. Outside of two or so of the singles, I think the Double Features range from noticeable improvement in most ways, to vast improvement.dprez wrote:I was thinking to my self that I prefer the single version much better, then I see that Dragon Box footage and am blown away. Me, I'm waiting for a Dragon Box movie release, but I'm only going to wait so long. It may be sooner, but if there's no announcement by perhaps the end of next year, or if we get an original Dragon Ball Dragon Box next, I'm going to get the movie packs, as many of them are still a big improvement even if I prefer a couple of the singles. I'm not throwing out the singles though, as even for the ones that I prefer the Double Features over, I still want the alternate 4x3 aspect ratio.

As for my Blu-ray question, I did look at Blu-ray.com and Tanooki's caps, and I found one that matched up. It's not the same exact frame, but it should be close enough, or at least good for comparing the background.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7198/6858 ... 6206_o.png
And I don't know any site that will host a lossless, 1080p image, but I will just say that the BD is noticeably sharper than the double feature, and a bit more than the Dragon Box. Though, I'd still take the Dragon Box over the BD, because of the better colors, none of the lost detail, vastly better audio, and the original title card/credits. (That, and the Blu-rays are a bit too expensive for my tastes.)

I don't know... I kinda think the background on the Blu-ray looks like an oil painting.

The background, yes. I was referring more to Kuririn's outline.Metalwario64 wrote:I don't know... I kinda think the background on the Blu-ray looks like an oil painting.

The line-art's pretty much intact on the movie 3 Double Feature. The noise reduction took noticeable detail out of the backgrounds though.Pokewhiz7 wrote:The background, yes. Not just because of the packaging, but the quality is brilliant.
The Double Features best 'thing' about it is the design of the volumes and being steelbooks.

The Singles' quality is shit compared to DBoxes. The DF's quality is closer to the DBoxes, though the colors are off.dbboxkaifan wrote:I didn't say that, the colours and quality is a bit more closer than the DFs.
