Wow, Herms! That's a pretty good translation review! You would be good as an official Japanese translator for Dragon Ball manga!

Well, I decided to kind of switch formats. Earlier I was taking notes as I read through a volume, in a sort of shorthand/outline style, and then expanding on this later into actual posts before moving on into the next volume. But now I'm trying to go through and take notes on the entire manga before going back and turning them into posts. There are a few reasons for this, but they all essentially boil down to me wanting to get a sense of Viz's entire translation of the manga before commenting on any one part of it. For instance, I didn't know before that Viz had so many different translations for West City (City of the West, Western City, West City), so I was having to go back and change things I had written earlier about them always using "City of the West". There were a lot of little things like that, and this just seemed easier. The Tori-bot wrote:Any word on the next volume?
I've taken notes up into the androids stuff now, but then I got side-tracked a bit with all the Super Exciting Guide stuff, and I kind of wanted to take a break from the project anyway. And I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Platinum (I must beat it before it comes out in America!).

Herms, would you please continue this translation? I would love to have the true word on the whole series!

I also enjoyed reading this. I know it was gone over in the podcast but it is easier to pull this up on my computer or phone when reading the manga. Maybe someone should transcribe this part of the podcast.

I know we kept a lot (all?) of the notes, and I'm pretty sure there are plans to incorporate it into their website at some point in time. It's a massive project, after all...
So let's just leave it there for now, especially considering this thread was last posted in three years ago...
. Thanks!

Re: Herms' Huge Project (Viz translation review)--DB vol.5!
I was wondering if Herms or another very reliable translater would want to work with me on a project to give a near-100% direct translation of the original manga, taking out the changes Viz Media made to adapt it and have a more authentic Dragon Ball to read.
My project is simple: A reliable translator would provide me with the most direct English translation and I would replace the dialogue bubbles of the original Manga with the more authentic version, as shown in my concept picture here:

I have high quality scans of the original Manga so if Herms or another is interested give me a shout.

None of the Kanzenshuu staff are interested or in any position to assist with an unofficial, unlicensed scanlation of a property we do not own, and any links to said type of material will be removed if posted.

Aw shucks. I was hoping to get some help on this. I suppose I could just use what Herms posts in this thread if he ever decides to finish the project, though I suppose he won't if he thinks I'll turn his work into a fanslation.
Are there any non-Kansenshuu staff that could help me in this project?

This may be because I got into Dragon Ball primarily because of Viz's edition of the Manga but I still love it despite the errors. The story comes through and I'm glad that I read it first since I was able to see the major flaws with the Dragon Ball dub(s) and their "translations." It's not at all perfect but I still cherish it to date.

It's not just about the staff assisting directly. We don't want this project here in any form.Selsiuss wrote:Are there any non-Kansenshuu staff that could help me in this project?

I suppose that I could watch the DVDs with subtitles on, though i would have to sift through all the filler.
And don't get me wrong I would rather the official releases by supported. I don't have to distribute any fanslation that I'm a part of. Honestly I'm fine with keeping it to myself, I just don't like how Viz changed things for the English market.

I understand. As for me, I'm just grateful that it's not at all like with Ocean and FUNi. Plus, the humorous dialogue by Viz does fit the comedic tone of Dragon Ball before Z. But like all humans, they tend to slip up now and then. I am able to grin and bear with it but I can't tell that it's not everyone's cup of tea.Selsiuss wrote:I just don't like how Viz changed things for the English market.
