Demi wrote:*hugs his PSP* ngnikolaos, where do you see Broly? I don't see him. I would love it if it's called Shin Budokai because it's part of the Budokai series, as in the game has all the characters from previous Budokai's and in game transformations and stuff. That would kick arse.
Okay, correction time. Demi, you are correct. When La Resistance first posted the pic, it was a lot smaller, and I mistakenly thought that the Goku vs Vegeta pic in the middle was actually Brolly vs Vegeta (gulp).

However, notes about the game. The graphics looks clearly Budokai-like, but noticed the Janemba pic on the right? It looks like Janemba is dashing AROUND his opponent, like in Tenkaichi perhaps? Or maybe he's doing an 8-way run like in Soul Calibur, except that it is via dashing, not walking.

Another note: The story mode looks like the Mortal Kombat tree system!! Cowabanga!! Can't wait!!

Oh, and who is fighting Janemba? It looks like the guy who fought Vegeta in the Buu saga (one of Badi Bi's henchmen, the less powerful one).

And now, after seeing these pics in enlargement (and after playing Metroid Fusion and Fire Emblem on my GBA), I am convinced. I am going to break my promise, and re-invest in the handhelds. What was I thinking in claiming that I only will invest in plug-to-TV systems? And miss this jewel called Shin-Budokai? No sir. Not me. Mm-mh...

Ah, good point, Xyex. Sagas is indeed an "action/adventure" game, whilst Budokai, its successors, and Budokai Tenkaichi are classified as "fighting" games.

Ah, now I recognized him. He's Paikuhan, not Badi Bi's henchman. Funny thing is, I never saw the episodes in which he and Goku fought.

Hmm.. why do I get the feeling that Shin Budokai is actually what Budokai 3 was supposed to be, just not rushly released? :D

The PSP-vault claims to have more information about the game: http://www.psp-vault.com/Article445.psp

"The title will be "Dragonball Z Shinbudoukai."

The battle system from the PS2's "Z3" (Budokai 3?) has been even further improved.

The battles involve a mysterious new system called "Aura Burst."

New playable characters include Paikuhan and some guys from the North Milky Way.

Special moves and such are all done in real time.

Depending on the battles, the story will change. Multiple endings!"

We just put a bit of more detail up on the main page, ourselves. Nothing of any huge importance, but there's a couple new things.

As someone who has never played neither Budokai 3 OR Tenkaichi, it will just rule to have a PSP game where you can play as Janemba, Cooler, Broly and perhaps even Gotenks without having to fuse mid battle. I am really looking forward to this! Hopefuly they will include all the characters from Budokai 3 (All the characters from Sparking seems a bit much to ask) including the GT characters. Look at the characters health bars, below it you can see the same Ki bar system as Budokai 3. This game looks like it's made from win and own. :D

The rumours that this game will contain elements of Budokai Tenkaichi sounds like crap, as there doesn't look like there's much freedom and flying looks like a sidestep. Nevertheless, it looks miles better than Budokai Tenkaichi.

If this game is that succesful they may even port it too the PS2 like Chou DBZ.

But I won't buy a PSP for this, it seems as if they didn't add these additional characters in the PS2 games so people will have reason to buy a PSP for a few new characters. Their turning DBZ into a cash cow. Does Toriyama even get money for the games? He should, shouldn't he?

The game itself doesn't look that bad though, considering it's on a portable system, and seeing what Rockstar did with Liberty Stories, they could make a similar system to Sparking. It seems they have the same location where Goku and Piccolo fought Raditz, the one with the mountains in the background. Is the other screenshot a place in Hell? When Gogeta fights Janemba, that place.

Mainly, it would be nice if they featured other world places, even if I don't buy it, they might as well use a lot more areas that ain't featured in the previous games.

Then when DBZ games get made for the next gen consoles they will have a have a wider selection of levels to pick from, something that would have vastly improved the PS2 games, there's enough characters to pick from, but there should be a lot more levels that they could have used from the anime. They could add much more better features, like the ground could rumble and make a little crater when powering up, like when Piccolo does against Cell's 1st form, and also ki attacks just don't seem to have that edge that the anime gives, the characters should move back a bit when firing, and if near the ground it should leave a trail mark where it's gone acress the floor. Little thing like that improve the game, and also the fact that Sparking didn't feature blown up versions of the leves like Budokai 3 did.

I personally prefered DBZB3's fighting system to DBZ Sparking's. A portable version with extra characters and that new battle thing makes it sound even better. If it has Roshi, Tiencha/Yamhan, ChiChi and/or Bojack, I'll be very happy.

I hope they don't include that thing in Budokai 3 where you have to do a Kaioken looking move to do finishing moves, it looks kinda lame to me.

Nope, he didn't forget anything. Sagas is not a fighting game. Therefor, his statement was accurate. There are 4, and only 4, DBZ Fighting Games on the PS2.
Actually, there are two subgenre of fighting games; Versus Fighters, and Brawlers/Beat-'em-ups. Sagas is one of the latter.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

I dunno. Has a handheld game ever been ported to a console?
I know there's a Sonic collection on the consoles that has some Game Gear games, but I don't recall any others at the moment.

That reminds me, back before the PS2 games were ever around and I was playing the old Japanese games, there were always things that bugged me about the presentation. Especially YELLOW Kamehamehas.

I'm surprised that, with all the advances they've made in the newer games to bringing the feel of DBZ to life, they STILL haven't added wilder-looking power ups. Like rumbles/earthquakes, rocks tearing up from the ground, and whole-screen flashes of crackling energy.
I made a DBZ demo a long time ago, and had fun making a really dynamic power up thingy. The screen shook, rumbles could be heard, flashes of energy showed up, and rocks started flying from the ground. When you stopped powering up, the rocks would hang in the air for a bit, then drop down to the ground. You could even hit the rocks while they were in the air, and they'd break.
I never actually finished the game though.

The screen flashes may not be as suitable for a game though, since it could distract you from the game, or be seizure-inducing. I used that effect too heavily in my last freeware game, and got a fair number of complaints.

I forgot about that and Dragon Rush. I feel they should both go. I didn't like the fact certain moves like Warp KameHameHa and Special Beam Cannon could only be done by pulling off Dragon Rush successfully. The computer always seemed to read my controller when I managed to pull it off (I developed a strategy where I push the button after the computer which was slightly more successful), and the computer always seemed to abuse that move.

Sagas never got a UK release. I'm only counting the PS2 DBZ fighting games that got a UK release.

I dunno. Has a handheld game ever been ported to a console?
The Magic Box reports that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, a PSP exclusive at this time, will make its way to the PlayStation 2 later this year.

Well, I hope Shin Budokai won't get ported, because my PSP purchase will be labeled "unbased" if that happens... :D

dbz psp! no doubt

Post by mictaliano » Tue Jan 24, 2006 5:51 am

I own PSP, so this is a no brainer for me. Yeah the psp was pricey, but well worth it for non-region coded games. I have no doubt that DBZ Shin Budokai will be just as good or better than any budokai before it. I'm importing this game as soon as it's released. Thats the good thing about DBZ Shin Budokai, yeah you have to buy the system, but we don't have to wait for an american release!

In case y'all didn't notice, there's a blurb about this game in the newest American Shonen Jump.
