Jalen got some huge stones for that. Hope he makes a lot of money. He seemed real sincere in what he was saying and I thought it was awesome.

You hope he makes a lot of money...for uploading some pseudo-philosophical bullshit based on a kids' cartoon and then pretending to power-up to someone else's background music? Of course he wasn't sincere; he's just some talentless teenager that capitalized on the lowest common denominator of what passes for amusement on the internet nowadays.Mjb1985 wrote:Jalen got some huge stones for that. Best part of the video IMO.SSJ3_Gogeta wrote:The video made it on World's Dumbest a few days ago.

He did something dump. Very dump. Too dump for his age. It's OK when you do it sometimes in your bathroom, when nobody is home. But on YouTube? When you are at about 16 years old? No... Just... No...Mjb1985 wrote:Jalen got some huge stones for that. Hope he makes a lot of money. He seemed real sincere in what he was saying and I thought it was awesome.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I feel like this kid's outlook is what happens when you mix Dragon Ball Z and hallucinogens.

No way man , that was awesome. People like to point and make fun yet meanwhile they have all tried doing it on their own. No one has ever had the stones to put it on camera for the world to see. Jalen is awesome IMO.

No, it doesn't take much effort and/or skill to just say some pseudo-philosophical crap vaguely related to DBZ and then pretend to power-up like an idiot to someone else's background music. And I do believe others have done it. Maybe not on YouTube (before YouTube's conception and/or popularity), but still.Mjb1985 wrote:No way man , that was awesome. "Ooh yeah, you can do anything if you can put your mind to it blah blah blah..." You think someone hasn't tried that faux-inspirational bullshit that's good to live by in theory but actually retarded in practice? Just because I really want to be able to fly doesn't mean that I've suddenly gained the ability to levitate and fly around like a boss.
The kid's getting money for being a novelty idiot. But that's not surprising in this day and age.

As Raditz in the Viz translation would say: "Do I care?"Mjb1985 wrote:You're being way too harsh. He's just a kid.
He's a kid, but he's making money for saying some stupid shit and screaming for the rest of the video. Moderately amusing, sure, but no way should he getting big bucks off of this while real talented people remain underground because the public doesn't give a shit about the talent anymore. They just like to glorify stupidity. Just look at the gits in Jersey Shore.

Re: Super Saiyans are Real - Dragon Ball Video Goes Viral
I don't that really applies here, I mean he clearly knows what he is doing, I mean he looks about my age, even a year older. Not to sound preachy but that excuse of "but he's just a kid" is so over used and said with a double standard. However, I'm still conflicted on how sincere he is, after viewing his blog post. You're being way too harsh. He's just a kid.

Maybe he does have multiple personalities, and due to a bit of social awkwardness (which is understandable), may have wanted to express himself? or it could be complete nonsense, but hey, who knows. The only "negative" thing this video has done was further reinforce the stereotype that Dragon Ball Z is all about obnoxious "powering up" and screaming, albeit that being slightly true in later portions of the series.
Though I'm leaning more towards Daimao at this point.

Lol. What? You guys are serious? What crime did he commit? Jalen being a kid is justifiable. It's not like this is a 30 year old man or anything, it's a kid with an imagination?
Wait what exactly are you guys so mad at him about? That he might make money off of it? Or that he put up the video in the first place?

I'd be okay with it if he were like 7 but this kid is like 13 or 14 (15 even). I think he's old enough to have the mental capability to differenciate between fantasy and reality (that being such supernatural powers obviously don't exist) plus anyone who's watched or read Dragon Ball Z would know that you have to be biologically linked to an alien race called 'Saiyans'.

I had the impression that he was 17, maybe that's pushing it...DBZAOTA482 wrote:I'd be okay with it if he were like 7 but this kid is like 13 or 14 (15 even).

Re: Super Saiyans are Real - Dragon Ball Video Goes Viral
So, if I put a video on YouTube that has me cutting with a knife my finger, pee on my PS3, shitting my pants on camera, would my doing be awesome (because I had the balls to do it), or extremely dump? Doing such things doesn't so to the world that I had the balls to do it. There are many, many other things that make a man's balls worthy. Trying to become a Super Saiyan isn't one of them.Mjb1985 wrote:No one has ever had the stones to put it on camera for the world to see.

It's cute when a little kid pulls this kind of stunt (it's a perfectly normal stage in life before they learn to differentiate the two worlds) but a 13 or 14 (or 15 or 16?) doing it is just shameful.Mjb1985 wrote:What's wrong with imagination and fantasy though?

I'd argue that up through 16 is still just a little kid...

11 - 14 I'd classify as Pre-Teen and 15 - 18 as Teenagers.

Re: Super Saiyans are Real - Dragon Ball Video Goes Viral
I honestly just thought he made the video to be funny. Either you find it amusing or you don't. I don't understand all the comments about how he should be ashamed of doing something so silly at whatever age he is, especially coming from a bunch of people who still enjoy a show aimed at little boys themselves. A lot of people would call that shameful, and I think anyone who'd argue that what this kid did and what we enjoy are on entirely different levels would be missing the point.
Long story short, I think some people should lighten up. It's okay to do something silly once in a while. Life's too short to be serious and boring all the time--and this guy's life has only just begun!

Well, the dictionary definition would call anyone between 13 and 18 teenagers, but I agree with Mike. Even teenagers are "kids" in the grand scheme of things. They're all pretty meaningless labels at the end of the day, though.Gonstead wrote:Ehh, personally I think anybody 10 and below would classify as a little kid.
