Why exactly did people detest IW?

IW did have some fun mini-games like running on the Snake Road, collecting stars (or Dragon Balls), catching Bubbles..
From what I've been told that IW really added anything new other then a few new characters and that they made the game is so hard. I remember reading that they took them like six months to create the game which could explain why the story mode is so lack luster and why the game was so cheap when it was first released. They most likely used Paikuhan's and Janemba's character models from Shin Budokai since it uses the same game engine as Budokai 3. They most likely used the unused characters for Super 17 and Bebi Vegeta for the game since it seems like they where plan for Budokai 3 going by the voice files in the dragon universe mode.
Mostly becasue:
A: Some of the minigames were annoying (Piccolo and Cell one for example)
B: They didn't add 19, Zarbon and Dodoria, but instead Pan, Baby, and Super 17 who most care considerably less about.
C: Unless you used the 7 Health, and the Roast Chicken capsule, it was shit-your-pants difficult from Freeza on for most people.

I actually enjoyed IW though. Classic Budokai-style cutscenes were pretty sweet.

I'll buy this HD collection when
1. Price goes down to $20 or less
2. My Budokai and Budokai 3 discs stop working, which will probably be in 2-3 years.

Hey Mike, I don't want to come off as pessimistic but how does the license for DBZ games work? I mean when will NB lose it? Sorry if anyone likes them.

Also have you done the podcast/article on the history of DBZ games yet? (I think you mentioned it before on a podcast).

-Thanks

We really have no idea how the license for this stuff works in Japan. It's not like North America, and especially when it's with publicly traded companies, where that info is tied in with shareholder reports. Namco-Bandai in Japan could have the lifetime exclusive license to Dragon Ball via Shueisha, it could be tied to financial projections/commitments/guarantees, it could be a yearly renewal... we don't really have any solid facts.

I don't think we've done anything super solid and concise on the history of the games via the podcast (we've done things like how to play import games, what it was like during 1997, etc.), but we have some pretty awesome stuff in that department coming up soon :).

The only possible fans that Namco Bandai might have are those who adore Budokai Tenkaichi / Raging Blast because Dimps' DB games are almost dead (last game they produced was in 2008) for except this revival.

Anyway, does Namco Bandai have a deal with France (AB Groupe?) to go there for their annual Dragon Ball releases?

We can't possibly just like them because the Budokai games are boring to play and DBZ feels extremely limited as a 2D fighter instead of a 3D simulator, huh?

I kinda forgot.

Namco Bandai, well, Dimps is still my favourite DB game producer, my favourite games are all thanks to them.

DB: Advanced Adventure
DBZ: Burst Limit
DBGT: (doesn't exist)

I can't imagine Burst Limit with any other music than the original by Kenji Yamamoto. :P

...I got to say, I'm surprised at how enthused I am towards this. I can't say I'm pumped because I'd still prefer something new and fresh but this is the first time since 2009 I've been willing to buy a Dragonball game. The sad thing is I already own both these titles. Really it all boils down to the price. If they can throw out a $40 price tag(or lower) I'd probably cave; online multiplayer would be a nice icing on the cake.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

I WOULD have considered buying this had they included Budokai 2.

Other than the US version which is titled "Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout" elsewhere it's just "Dragon Ball: Final Bout". Still no official GT game (unless you count the GBA game which covers GT's story).

Yeah, in Japan there is no Dragon Ball GT game.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Dammit, really. I've imported Budokai 1 and 2 because of Chala Head Chala and japanese voices + those bonuses in Budokai 2 (Neko Majin and Kuriza) from Japan and got Greatest Hits version of 3, so I dunno. I would mind buying it if it was all three + maybe Infinite World as nice bonus or if they do some new game which will merge these together with some new modes, like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.......
I'll go for that Kinect only probably.

If they are aiming for players in general than okay, but if they are going for hardcore base than they are probably slightly retarded with all they are doing on the last batch of consoles.

Wouldn't the Japanese version of "Dragon Ball Z HD Collection" (guessing it's gonna be called like this since the original Dragon Ball Z Budokai titles were) have Kikuchi's synthesized soundtrack?

It'd be way better than what the international version has right now, which is a mix of the BT3 crappy soundtrack and a newly composed score based on this.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai HD Collection - Goku Vs. Tenshinhan

Ah yes, while I didn't find "Dragon Ball Z HD Collection" up for pre-orders on Amazon.co.jp there's Dragon Ball Z For Kinect.

Probably not, since the Sparking(/Raging Blast/Ultimate Blast) games were always the only ones that had it. I'd totally buy that, though.

The old Budokai 1 PAL didn't have CHA LA HEAD CHA LA, anyone knows why? PAL kept all of the blood scenes or were a few edited out (like on Gohan's arm a bit of blood while saving Vejita from being killed by Cell)?

But it still featured the original Japanese cast which the US version only had the English FUNimation dub.

It was a rights thing. We didn't get it for Super Dragon Ball Z and Budokai Tenkaichi 1 either (and We Gotta Power on Budokai Tenkaichi 2, if I didn't switch those). It wasn't until Ultimate Tenkaichi that they bothered to cough up the money to get it in the western releases.

The PAL version didn't have Blood, instead they showed us dirt. And the subtitles were funny actually like Goku super mad at Nappa calling him meanie. I guess the opening wasn't CHA LA HEAD CHA LA because I guess most of the countries didn't use it.

That's not it, it was the music rights probably, which got cleared out trough the years, but still, no-one outside of Japan can have Kikuchi.
Chala Head Chala was opening in Germany and all the Spain provinces and states, only France didn't had it.
The PAL version had that alternate opening which is on the Japanese and also probably the US version too, with that kanji symbols and in-game footage and some Kikuchi instrumental.

The music from the opening is in the game indeed, It's in the duel version of the stage where you battle Raditz.
The opening itself is composed by scenes of the Story Mode (which seems to have a beta version of the cutscene where Vegeta goes Super Saiyan).

But didn't the ending had a instrumental version of Chala Head Chala? I guess it was composed by Yamamoto then.

So no CHA LA HEAD CHA LA and no blood instead it was mud, huh, darn it.

Oh well, in this HD Collection I just have to hope they've kept all of the game's original content, except the music, but just load up from your custom soundtrack (USB/HDD) and it's as good as the original, maybe even better because now's in HD. :P

While I loved the Budokai games (especially 3), I'm definitely going to pass on this. I still have a perfectly functional PS2 and three (don't ask) copies of the game. With no online and graphics that show virtually no improvement (besides resolution), I have zero interest in this game.

On the bright side, at least this could be a sign that they're moving away from the Sparking engine. Maybe if this does well enough, we'll see a Burst Limit 2 or something of the sort.
