Actually, Gohan was a gentle old man who lived alone in the woods and happened upon an unruly little boy with a tail.Jerseymilk wrote:Explain Gohan who is a halfblood and whose name is food based then.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:No, full Saiyans' names are vegetable-related.
I thought Pan's pun was the aformentioned Pan because it fits with the whole devil family thing (Mr. Satan, Videl).
Though I wouldn't be suprised if it was a double pun, but I've always understaood that it was after the Japanese word for "bread".
And I have always favored the demigod/devil connection for Pan over the bread one (which just seems too obvious, somehow), but agree with Multilang that it is also a rather clever double-pun.
Pan is supposed to mean bread in a lot of languages.gotenx wrote:Wait a minute... So pan in Japanese means bread? I know it means bread in Spanish, but I didn't think that it was the same for two languages that have similary or common roots. This makes no sense to me!
EDIT: Variations thereof, as well. French, for example, use "pain" (pronounced "peihn" with a soft N).

On the topic of why she is named for bread:
In Japan, there are two types of meals. Bread and Rice. Bread refering to mainly sandwiches and rice to other such meals involving rice. I believe that because the word "Gohan" literally means rice it is a pun on their realtionship for her name to mean bread.
Just my observation. It is pronounced "pahn".
