I think they have the original title cards considering they have them in japanese. As far as image quality is concerned, what is this that I have heard about original DragonBall being a better print than Z?lost in thought wrote:
Also, Funimation never recieved clean title cards from what I've heard-- so they had to make their own from stills of each episode. lol. (I could be wrong about this, but this is just what I've read, and been told.)

They do have them in Japanese, that is correct, however they did not (from what I've heard) get 'clean' versions [Toei animation has clean cells which they would use, and distribute for usage of episode titles,] the loss of this would mean Funimation had to create their own from stills from each episode.masenko wrote:I think they have the original title cards considering they have them in japanese. This is of little consequence, though, since most of the title cards were tied to the episode anyhow.
As well, the print of both is pretty much the same. Funimation didn't get [to my knowledge] the 'original' print (which would be the aged reels that they used to show the episodes back in the 80's) that Toei had, for any of the series', which accounts heavily for the loss of image quality that the Funimation distributed printings, by comparison to the printings distributed by Toei; which had been using the original printing.
If the concept boggles you, think of it this way: When you see a program airing on television, and you record it with a VHS tape-- nine times out of ten, the recorded print isn't to the same quality of that which was aired on television. This has to do primarily with the medium of re-recording, especially with an analogue tape based medium.
So it's like recording something, and then making a new recording from the recording you just made. The quality slowly goes down-hill.

Kinda like fan subbing, don't you think? So it's like recording something, and then making a new recording from the recording you just made. The quality slowly goes down-hill.
The last related Dragon Ball animation I watched was a month ago, 'Broly Second Coming'. Due to to popular belief, I"ve barely watched the series, I"ve only seen 25 or so episodes of Z, and less of Dragon Ball. Nearly everything I know is from the manga, which I'm also reading right now. Currently I'm at the Red Ribbon Army story arc. So I'm happy, even though I'm not in a position to watch more.

I just now watched the Goku Jr. special, along with the final 8 minutes of GT episode 64 in a personal blank DVD I've made for myself. I never realized till now how both aspects of the future flow together so well, though I did have to add a bright fading transition to the end of the Goku Jr. special to make it better match up with episode 64's final 8 minutes. Amazing how awesome it felt, and watching it like this really choked me up more than I could have imagined. I used FUNi's DVDs' Japanese versions to make this out, while it is just a copy of their prints sewn together, it's still awesome as hell. Shout out to Daimao, your translation was at its best for the final portions of the anime trilogy.SaiyamanMS wrote:I watched A Hero's Legacy today too. Gotta love that Goku jr.
Everyone, keep in mind, I'm not selling the blank DVD I made, it's for my own personal and private use. Hence, I don't deem that as illegal, just watching the final pieces of GT how I think they should be.

When Bulma's spy thingy is outside of the Palace, Tsuru'Sennin's mouth moves, but out comes Bulma's seiyuu yelling "Oh no! We've been spotted!"

I usually do that too. Sometimes watching an episode of DBZ cheers me up. I'll just watch it with my sister, she really likes the Goten and Trunks episodes.Great Saiyaman wrote:Last night was the last time, I also watch an episode or 2 every night.

EDIT: After watching A Hero's Legacy three times in a row, and just finishing The Path to Power, it's time for Sleeping Princess!

I was repairing something in my comp and decided to watch the Bardock special for the first time in years... Hikari no tabi during the credits always brings a tear to my eye.
When I get all of 1-291 in japanese on dvd, whether it be funi's or the R2s, I'm gonna have a dbz marathon from start to finish...

I watched all of the DB movies included in FUNi's DB Movie set last night, all in their Japanese version since I've already seen the dubs. Went from Sleeping Princess, to Mystical Adventure, and to Path to Power. Now concerning Path to Power, I got nothing against Clyde Mandelin, but damn his translation skills don't seem as good and accurate as Daimao's. That's just my opinion, Clyde's still a great translator, his work on Path to Power was pretty damn good, I just would have loved seeing Steve Simmons' take since he's been doing all the other movies.

DragonBall has become my official "Sleep Show". Every night, I pop in a DB saga set and just watch as many episodes until I'm out cold. Sometimes I have to turn it off just to fall asleep because I get so into the story. Anybody else ever do this?
