Re: Did DB Kai Succeed in reeling in children?
Well from my experience running my Toonanza block and just general conversations with younger folk at the Boys and Girls Club this summer, people who are atleast 9 and older watch Kai on mainly Toonzai, though they KNOW it's edited (mostly due to my less edited version I show with the Faulconer score just because I have a bias for that soundtrack) some know Nicktoons has been finished. So yes, I would say Kai did work reeling in children, at least over here. The YOUNGER ones however, don't know practically anything about Dragon Ball. A youngling that's about 7 asked me if Krillin was also Goku's son O_o
GT isn't bad, just sucks ass in comparison to the other 2 animes.

Well congrats on your Toonanza block, and sorry about your YouTube channel.SRB2Unleashed wrote:Well from my experience running my Toonanza block and just general conversations with younger folk at the Boys and Girls Club this summer, people who are atleast 9 and older watch Kai on mainly Toonzai, though they KNOW it's edited (mostly due to my less edited version I show with the Faulconer score just because I have a bias for that soundtrack) some know Nicktoons has been finished. Just wondering, how many episodes were aired on the "Toonanza" block, because you mentioned that you rescored Kai with Faulconer... And what other shows did you air?

The current lineup is[SP] wrote: Well congrats on your Toonanza block, and sorry about your YouTube channel.

DBZ Kai/Sonic X (alternated every week)
Outlaw Star
Super Mario Bros Super Show (Against my will, however kids just leave during it)
So far 4 Kai Episodes Have Aired. I'm gonna try to skip to the end of the Frieza saga before the end of the summer/month it's currently on the Goku VS Ginyu battle.
I'm planning a Toonami week around August 20th, and that'll have classic DBZ on it, so I'll be sure to get footage of that.

What do you mean skipping to the end of the Freeza saga? Are you going to skip some episodes so you can get to the fight with the Z-Fighters vs Freeza? /offtopicSRB2Unleashed wrote:The current lineup is[SP] wrote: Well congrats on your Toonanza block, and sorry about your YouTube channel.

My thoughts are that it succeded. I mean, it must have done well on Nicktoons to the point they showed some of the dbz movies and GT. Seriously, Kai even had its own message boards on Nicktoons! (even though it is mostly used by 10 year old fangirls posting their dumb dbz fanfics and fantasies)

I teach Grade 6 kids, and nearly all the guys adore Dragon Ball Z Kai. Many actually prefer "Z" , which is odd. It's easier to find online I suppose.

It's not really odd the Latin Spanish dub of Z is superior, it has better voice acting, script, it covers the entire series and Mario Castañeda is Goku. Kai's dub was unnecessary.Aoi wrote:I teach Grade 6 kids, and nearly all the guys adore Dragon Ball Z Kai. Many actually prefer "Z" , which is odd. It's easier to find online I suppose.
You can find comparison videos of the original Z dub versus the Kai dub on YouTube, unless Toei Animation took them down.
Edit: You're talking about the Latin Spanish dub, aren't you? Thought you were because of the country "Argentina".
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:

lol, you'd be surprised. I got 4 students absolutely hooked on DBZ Abridged. They are Grade 8s too, which makes it even better. Last year, I was suddenly screamed at: "Sir! We watched all 28 episodes of Abridged! It was so funny!". I couldn't help feeling tremendously satisfied by that.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I'm so happy to hear that, Aoi!

My 7-year old cousin knows of it, and a bunch of kids in my old neighbor mentioned the 'Spirit Bomb' so I think it did. Also, wasn't it the highest rated TV premiere in Nicktoons history?

Haven't we already gotten these in GT? Goku dies, the DBs go away, and the Namekian DBs most likely won't be used again because of the Evil Dragons.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Yes, and while it was running, it was the highest-rated show on Nicktoons. It was the highest-rated on Toonzai, as well. I don't think it had the impact that DBZ had because Kai had not-so-optimal time slots, limited accessibility (in the case of Nicktoons), and it was going up against an audience that either hated the changes or didn't think it was new enough to warrant another watch. I do believe it reeled in children, though, and was a success on that front.DBZAOTA482 wrote:My 7-year old cousin knows of it, and a bunch of kids in my old neighbor mentioned the 'Spirit Bomb' so I think it did. A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Did DB Kai Succeed in reeling in children?
I've read that thousands of kids in US have sort of given up from going to school unless they're bribed with something. Talking about DB probably won't bring them back.

You are so awesome!Aoi wrote:haha. The school knows me as the "Dragon Ball" teacher.I'm sort of a permanent substitute teacher there so I can afford to talk about this stuff with them. However, if I was actually full time I wouldn't talk to them about it as much for sure.
Re: Did DB Kai Succeed in reeling in children?
My 9 year old niece knows what Dragon Ball is because of Saturday morning Kai.
