Secondly though, I meant that more in regards to these 'system busters' and 'reality warpers' and such. Cool ideas, sure, but they just don't feel like 'Dragon Ball' to me.

And as far as how demons work in Dragon Ball, I'd say that the Kaios and Kaioshin are the 'angels', so getting a Makaioshin or whatever it was from DBO, would be awesome as a villain.

Edit: Not to mini-mod, but that picture's size is pretty big, think you could swap it out for a smaller one, or just leave it as a link?

So you don't think Goku and Vegeta being trapped in japanese tv land, during a fight with an arch angel wouldn't be fun to see and go back to Toriyama's comedic roots ?

Watch the episode and tell me that plot wouldn't make a lovely sub plot/scene in the movie.

Lastly, yes i know not in the manga and its in the anime, that is why i said so in my post. Yes I will link it.

Thought so, thanks for confirming it for me. I forgot about the cricket-angel Kaio-sama.

No offense, but...no. That just doesn't sound like a very Dragon Ball like plot to me. It'd be cool to see in other series maybe, but not this one. The furthest I'd go is to say that maybe it'd be cool to see them deal with some kind of threat that's digital and exists on the internet or something, but...Digimon and Summer Wars both say hello, they've been there and done that better than DBZ could already.

And that's just it as well - Supernatural already did that, so shouldn't you be happy with it being there? That's a specific plot idea rather than a theme idea, so why see it sullied in over use in everything else? You wouldn't want Super Saiyans in every other show just because of how awesome it is in DBZ would you?

And I know it was in the anime. But it was an ending theme, not part of an episode. Not part of the story, at all. The movies are closer to being in the main storyline than the events in the opening/endings are.

If you think about it, they really have done it all. Even turning the good guys evil would be too reminiscent of the Bebi arc in GT. I think the only choice from the DB universe would be a fallen Kaioshin. I hope they do something more inspired this time around.

goku the krump dancer wrote:The "Demon Plain" seems to be Dragon Ball's interpretation of what many real people believe Hell is. Hell in Dragon Ball is just the place bad souls go where they then wait to be cleansed and reincarnated.
DB Hell is based off Buddhist ideas about Hell, which is where the whole "cleansed and reincarnated" thing comes from. The anime even stuffs DB Hell with parody versions of the various standard features of Hell in Japanese folklore and art, like the lake of blood, mountain of needles, oni guards, etc.

The Makai/Demon World is a common trope in manga, anime, and video games. It more often than not has nothing to do with the dead, and is just a sort of alternate world where demons live. It was originally a Buddhist term referring to any area of temptation.

I have a feeling that the villain is going to be a villain similar to the one from the 2008 Jump Special. A villain that is not very threatening since I remember hearing that this film is going to focus on both Goten & Trunks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but no information regarding any form of plot (or general info, well, in general  ) has been revealed so where exactly did you hear about this Goten/Trunks deal from?
Also, I would hate another Goten/Trunks story, they pulled it off well in the 2008 special (thankfully), but its just that, WE JUST HAD IT! More focus on the other characters would be nice.
I enjoy the Dragon Ball original AND Dub, even the VHS Fan-Sub's.

Goten and Trunks appearing in the early promotional artwork for the movie at all transformed itself via the Internet into "focusing on Goten and Trunks" instead of simply "takes place during the timeframe in which Goten and Trunks are characters".

Nope. You might be thinking of Dai-Kaiou, although he was mentioned in the manga but never shown.

Darn it... I meant Dai Kaio, yes.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

This! The kids can be funny and all, but I feel that humour is pretty much their only strong point and even that become annoying at some point. I don't find them that intriguing as characters, as individuals and/or as a pair (not to mention that Goten's presence as a character tends to fade away when he is with Trunks) The old Buu Saga movies gave them plenty of screen time and they will most likely get some more in this movie as well. It's just don't want it to be their movie.

One thing that I would love to see in this movie would be some additional character insight. DB always tended to avoid delving to deep into a character's thoughts and feelings and as a result the characters appear to be pretty shallow. It's hard to say exactly what I mean by this, I don't want anything too fancy, just a little more creativity when it comes to handling the characters.
I can already see them checking the list of things this movie has to have : a Piccolo&Gohan friendship scene, a Goku&Vegeta rivalry/friendship scene, a Goten&Trunks being mischievous and causing trouble scene etc, etc, basically fan favorite character dynamic, but ones that we have seen about a million times before.

Eh, I'd be more partial to having 4 Dragons above the Kaioshin, maybe tie the Dragon Balls to them somehow. As for new villains that would actually be threatening, the only real way to not rip off GT that I can think of would be to finally introduce the Makaio/shin to the anime.

Isn't that a little like Toyble's series? Not saying I wouldn't like it, just pointing it out.

Roshi groping females. Eating scene.
Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

Well if ya'll don't like the idea of angels. What about devas which is the equivalent to angels in Buddhism.

Look them up Buddha is equivalent to michael, Mara is the equivalent of Lucifer, Ananda is the equivalent to Gabriel in Buddhism. In short angels are just placed under a different name in Buddhism and I don't see a problem in incorporating them into the series.

Look them up.

I don't like the idea of angels. It reminds me of the Saint Seiya movie about Lucifer.

How about someone like Raditz returning from the dead? It'd be nice to have everyone fight an evil Saiyan again. Or how about Garlic Jr? Third times the charm!

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I'll take Super Saiyan 3 Broli is his fights are key animated by Tanaka Hironori, Kameda Yoshimichi, and Kurita Shin'ichi. :P

Bringing Lucifer from the second Dragon Ball movie back would be cool, although with Nozawa dead they'd have to recast.

I thought you meant Masako Nozawa, you scared me for a second. It took me a moment before I remembered the person who voiced him also had the last name of Nozawa.

I don't think I'd want Brolli back unless they gave him some actual dialogue ala Movie 8. Let him converse normally with the people he's fighting. I wouldn't want him just running around screaming "Kakarrotto!" all the time like he did in 10 and 11.
On hiatus.
