Toriyama WJ Comments Project

So last year DB collector extraordinaire Pekindaq put up a Twitter account, wj_toriyama, where he posted up (almost) all of the little comments Toriyama made for each issue of Weekly Jump as DB ran. If you've ever seen an issue of Jump, you may have noticed these little comments by the creators at the back of the book. It's the same general sort of "what I've been up to lately"-type stuff found in Toriyama's volume intros, with some interesting peeks at how things were for him as the series ran. He discusses the transition from his first editor (Kazuhiko Torishima) to his second (Yu Kondo), his first meeting with his third editor (Fuyuto Takeda), how midway through the 23rd TB he had already mostly worked out the events for the next story arc, how when "Trunks:the Story" debuted in Jump there were already plans to animate it within the year, and other odds and ends. Mostly though it's just Toriyama being his goofy self, including describing how he received some panties from a fan, how he doesn't get around to sending out New Years cards until June, and how one of his relatives' kids knows him as "that old guy who's really good at drawing DB characters". Some of these were printed in Daizenshuu 7, but until Pekindaq came along the vast majority of them were only available to those who happened to collect the old Jump issues, so we're all indebted to him. I've been wanting to translate these for awhile now, and think now's probably the time I finally get around to it. However, with my current schedule I'll really only be able to do them bit by bit. So I was thinking it might be best to follow Pekindaq's lead and set up a Twitter account dedicated to them, so I can post up new ones as I go along (I'll need to ask his permission for this). Does that sound good, or would you prefer I just post them all up at once, whenever it is I finish them? Thoughts?

However you do it, this sounds amazing. I know there's a similar One Piece project for Oda's comments out there; it's not twitter-related, but I've heard about it on the unofficial podcast. I never imagined a similar project for DB would appear.

This sounds like an amazing undertaking, so thank you for doing so. Will these be added to the site, presumably as a Tidbit?

It occurs to me that this comment about Toriyama planning the Saiyan arc while writing the Twenty-Third Tenka'ichi would be a perfect new addition to the Intended Endings Guide! O.o

There's no need to rush after all, it's a generous undertaking, and you should be able to post it however and whenever you choose.
