Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
Exactly what the title implies.

I like how much they were able to consolidate Goku vs. Frieza.

Not impressive but I liked the jump right to real Namek than seeing the space kids and fake Namek.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
I like how they cut out stuff like Jeice and Vegeta fighting in Freeza's ship. Plus, other moments where if you never saw Z, you'd never know that filler was there to begin with like I believe Nappa vs Piccolo, Krillin and their clones.

Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
Yea, well. The anime always stayed pretty close to the manga so any filler that was added in DBZ usually ended off as if it was never there in the first place. This actually helped them out later on when they cut up the series for DBK. Everything seemed pretty seamless.matt0044 wrote:I like how they cut out stuff like Jeice and Vegeta fighting in Freeza's ship. Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
To be honest, as much as I love and thank Kai for what it's done for me and my love for this franchise, it's existence is justified just by fixing the Goku vs. Frieza fight. I've stated this before: Goku vs. Frieza (before SSJ) is very good. However, the pace of SSJ Goku vs. Frieza is maybe the worst thing I've ever seen in any form of televised narrative. It is actually unwatchable.
KAI's rendition of that= 10/10
Z's rendition (yes, in Japanese)= 1.5/10 at best. It's that bad.

Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
In the Freeza arc of Kai, they didn't cut out that pointlessness with Bulma and the Ginyu Frog.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

I guess it was a tad too integrated into the Manga material. Either that or the episode needed the extra padding.Ketchup_Revenge wrote:In the Freeza arc of Kai, they didn't cut out that pointlessness with Bulma and the Ginyu Frog.

Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
The one instance I recall being shocked at how much was fit into 20 minutes the initial battle with Goku and Cell; having viewed it in the recent past on the Dragon Box, it hit me quickly that the Kai episode ends on the exact point that the second episode of the Z version ends.

Do you guys think Kai essentially overrides DBZ now considering it taking a closer to the manga approach?
Wouldn't this be like Full Metal Alchemist and FMA Brothehood?

Brotherhood is a total overhaul. Kai is basically half the show with new audio and ugly redrawn scenes.

I see. Too bad Kai didn't go that route huh? That would have been awesome. Now would you consider the filler cut out even more non canon than before?

That, plus unlike DBZ it didn't even cover the last 100-odd chapters of actual manga, so it can't "override" Z in that regard.DBZAOTA482 wrote:No.Mjb1985 wrote:Do you guys think Kai essentially overrides DBZ now considering it taking a closer to the manga approach?

Um... no? It's still just as non-canon as it ever was: non-canon. Assuming that canon = manga, it's not like there can be degrees of non-canon... ness; it's either in the manga or it's not. I don't see how Kai cutting it out makes it any more or less canon.Mjb1985 wrote:I see. Too bad Kai didn't go that route huh? That would have been awesome. Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
That's a good point. I guess I am just speculating on those who do use the anime and their position. A lot of times people will say well the anime showed this and I agree with it. Perhaps is Kai cut that specific scene out one could counter and say well Kai didn't feel it was necessary thus not truly anime logic anymore IE they didn't agree with it.

BACK ON TOPIC!
I liked how 18 and Vegeta's cross country clash was cut out very well as though it was never there.

I also like how they cut out all the repressed filler involving Maron and all those guys ogling her in the Android Saga. Not impressive but satisfactory.

Did FMAB finish the manga? IIRC wasn't the manga finishing the same time as FMAB was?The Tori-bot wrote:That, plus unlike DBZ it didn't even cover the last 100-odd chapters of actual manga, so it can't "override" Z in that regard.DBZAOTA482 wrote:No.Mjb1985 wrote:Do you guys think Kai essentially overrides DBZ now considering it taking a closer to the manga approach?

Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
The comic ended after the second series began production, so Hagane no Renkinjutshi: Fullmetal Alchemist did indeed cover the entire comic storyline.funrush wrote: Did FMAB finish the manga? IIRC wasn't the manga finishing the same time as FMAB was?
Re: Impressive ways Kai cuts out the filler
I wonder if they could've edit Trunks vs Mecha Freeza where it's Trunks goes SSJ > Freeza attempts to kill him > Trunks slices him. It wouldn't have been hard but I guess the episode needed the padding.
