How would you make the DBZ sequel?
What ideas and elements would you use to build a story and bring forth a villain believably stronger than Majin Buu? Summarize your concept for Dragon Ball 'X''s plot. I'd go into the Demon Realm more and the origin of the Dragon Ball Universe itself. Perhaps the Demon Realm was originally created to contain more than just Makaioshin but something even more ancient and connected to the very creation of the universe.

Mash up everything from Dragonball Online and tada!
Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
If it had to follow the shonen pattern, it would have to be something involving more time travel (this time not just on Earth), in order to have more universes, and with something that is a threat to all of them. It's feels like a next logical step: first an Earth thread, then a space thread, time traveling threads (Earth), universe and beyond thread, now a multiverse thread. It's the same concept DB Online went with.
The details though, who knows? There are many things you can come up with. Maybe villains connected to past events, or maybe something completely new. I remember thinking Bibidi would be an interesting addition to something after DBZ, and that he'd have the ability to "majin" anyone, not just bad guys. The "original timeline" or Trunks' future world, at least, should be reintroduced. Anyway, the overall theme would be a multiverse.

Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta get stuck in the ROSAT, and don't get out until the end of the series.

I'd have some sort of spellcaster steal Gohan's power-up so he/she can be a credible threat and Gohan wouldn't be overpowered.
I'd have an arc based on Makai, and have Gohan become the hero, while also giving Goten, Trunks and Oob some spotlight.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Dragon Ball Z was damn long enough and the ending leaves out anyone to imagine whatever they want. No sequel for me.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
Alternate dimensions. It's the only place left to go, really. Some evil motherfucker from a dimension where everything is more durable/gravity is higher/etc finds a way into the normal dimension, then send some mooks through the dimension gate. Goku and friends defeat these after a hard fight, and then go through the gate in order to fight the main villain and his henchdudes in their home dimension, where Goku's relative strength is far, far lower than on Earth, yet still quite a lot higher than your average inhabitant of that dimension.

Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
I'd probably do something like what Dragon Ball GT promised at the beginning. A classic Dragon Ball adventure across space with the new generation. Just replace Goku with Gotenks, string the one-off adventures together into a more cohesive whole, and tighten up the writing to cut down on plot holes, take the character's capabilities into account, and make them feel less like one note caricatures. In general I'd just love to see a series do well what GT looked like it was trying to do at first -- go back to light-hearted adventure and leave the doomsday plots on the back burner for a while.

Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
An original, dark storyline in where Goku doesn't save everyone's asses like usual, Gohan actually does crap, Piccolo isn't just a grumpy grandpa, Chi-Chi is a Z-Senshi,Yamcha isn't so disappointing, and Pan isn't a totally unlikable cunt-driver. It will also involve the plot thread where abusing the Dragonballs have a consequence like in GT, and they have to find while fighting some nasty villains (nastier than Majin Buu).

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I'd do what I'm already doing with my Altered History fanfic series. Can't say more than that, since most of what I'm doing in it is still a secret to the readers.Nex Carnifex wrote:What ideas and elements would you use to build a story and bring forth a villain believably stronger than Majin Buu? Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
Make Pan the main character, but none of that bitch whiney crap that she was in GT. It would be a new adventure series, but mostly rooted in the earlier Dragon Ball concepts. Bra would be involved, much like the Goten/Trunks friendship.

I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
I'll get back to you guys on that. I've been heavily considering starting a DBZ sequel fanfic where Kuriza is the main villain. The basic plot summary is that Kuriza discovers the Dragon Balls existence and heads to Namek. He uses them to bring back Freeza, Cold, Cooler, Cooler's deceased children (named Frost, Glacier, and Ice, and his deceased younger sister (named Dew). It ends with the Earth being in the hands of Goten, Trunks, Uub, and Piccolo.

Re: How would you make the DBZ sequel?
I think in order to get a Toriyama-esque series that would be enjoyable to true Dragon ball fans, you'd have to essentially start over from scratch. Kuriza is a cool concept though because he appeared in Neko Majin.

Keep GT's idea of the past coming back to haunt the protagonists (for instance, who put out the bid for Earth in the first place?), but keep above all else, that the overuse of the dragonballs will have consequences.

A story with Oob & Pan as the main characters.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Have some original new villains then rehash old ideas which GT seem to do with characters like Bebi and Super 17.

Following DBO's idea of a foe looking to steal Goku's power, he traps Goku on something like carbonite while there's an invasion to Earth. They kill Dende, so no Earth Dragonballs to help them. Vegeta, Gohan and the rest of the "old guard" need to stay behind to defend the planet while the new generation goes out to space to save Goku: Uub Pan, Bra, Trunks, Goten, even freaking Marron.
During their trip, they come across Planet Saiya. S**t happens.

Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

I also wouldn't mind back stories or prequels of certain characters. How about a mini series of Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz adventuring through space? Or how Tien and Chiaotzu first met. Heck I wouldn't even mind a short of how Yamcha got those scars.

I'd always thought of doing a one shot of younger Grampa Gohan.
