Am I the only one who LIKED Ultimate Battle 22?

Seriously? I've noticed it seems to get a lot of hate in this forum but I genuinely like the game. Admittedly it wasn't the best game but I still like to go back and play it when I get the time and personally I think it holds up better than something like Budokai 2, and especially better than Final Bout, which people seem to consider 'Bad, but not as bad as UB22'.

So I want to ask, is there anyone else here that actually liked UB22? And if you don't like it could you please explain to me what made this game so hated?

Also, I prefer it much better to the gameplay of the Tenkaichi series

I liked Final Bout more over it, but Ultimate Battle 22 is still the fun game. It has great character selection screen, and i love how there was a secret password (And Bonus Animation ) for unlocking new characters.

Nowadays things like this are named "DLC" and you have to pay real money for a costume or character >_>. Gaming has sure fallen low.

Haha RISE my fellow Ultimate Battlers! I think the character list was awesome and was especially impressed with each characters individual style, something the later games have seemed to forget about (press X multiple times to do a combo that looks only slightly different to all the other characters) Characters were really well balanced in that game as well.

And so true about the unlockable characters being DLC nowadays, I miss when games were complete, or when it actually took skill rather than money to unlock things

Of course I liked it as well, even though I haven't played it in years. I prefered Final Bout over it, though back then.
I particularly liked the neat extra to make the game UB27 and the opening for the additional characters.

You must of missed every posts I've ever had for UB22 If playing against a friend then it is my favorite PS1 DBZ Fighter and I would take it over Ultimate Tenkaichi and Budokai 1 when it comes to multiplayer. Its not that bad once you learn it and have a friend to play against. Me and a friend used to play a lot, probably 3-5 hours a week for around a year or so. However... that was because it was DBZ. There were tons of better fighters out there that gameplay wise were better in every way. At that time I really liked X-men vs Street Fighter which had speed and special attacks that felt more DBZ-ish than UB22 and FB's speed and attacks ever did (Legends was alright in that department but I never really got into it).

I like UB22, Great music, character sprites drawn by the animators and I think the first DBZ game with 27 characters.

Me and some friends loved to play UB22 back when I was a kid. I definitely enjoyed it but it's been many years since I played it and I'm sure if I tried it today I'de probably hate it.

After playing the PS2 DBZ games that followed UB22 my standards for DBZ games were much higher so I can't see myself enjoying that type of fighting game as I once did.

I liked the music and the cutscenes.

To be honest, I poured a ton of hrs into that game and the Build up mode. I wasn't a big fan of the controls, since I often had trouble pulling off those super moves (not the typical blast, but the crazy combo finishers) during battle. Friends gave me hell for playing it. I still remember how excited I was when I got it. My copy was the Japanese version and it had no screenshots on the back--but it didn't matter. The most I had seen of the game was from a Japanese commercial of Krillin playing the game on one of my 'ol Japanese VHS's. He made it look so awesome.

I wasn't really upset once I started playing it...just a bit underwhelmed because the gameplay just felt odd. When I first played Legends and Final Bout, my hype levels were ridiculous. Overall, I don't think Ultimate Battle 22 was bad at all, just different. It beats Taiketsu easily

I'm surprise to see some people having fun with the game. I never had fun with it since I remember getting so angry on how terrible the combat system was and how boring the game was. It's easily one of the worst games I remember playing. At least Final Bout had some nostalgia value to it while UB22 did not to me.

I had a blast playing it! trying to do the secret moves and what not. Plus it was the first time I got to play with Boo, Gogeta, Roshi and any other characters who weren't in Budokai 1.

The two bad ass intros were the icing on the cake for me also.

I do remember seeing the Japanese version of that (UB22), Legends and Final Bout in Game Gallery back when that store was around back in '99, '00 and I wanted it so badly but the guy said I needed a special chip or something because I didn't have a JP PSone. So finally getting to play one of those retro DBZ games felt awesome... samething with Final Bout later on in '04 I believe.

Never got to play Legends even though I remember seeing a commercial and the game itself in Game Stop but for some dumb ass reason I think I decided to get something else. Sigh if only I could go back in time.

When I first got it, I hated it. But as time moved on I've grown to really like it. I can play it all day long and have a blast. (With that being said, I'm also a big fan of Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout, though I like Ultimate Battle 22 more.)

My favourite PS1 DB game was always Dragon Ball Final Bout, maybe if I played Dragon Ball Z: The Legend I'd prefer it than DB:FB.

Yes, there are people that liked Ultimate Battle 22, just like there are people like stuff like Sonic 06 and Batman and Robin. Everything is liked by someone. I personally love the Pokèmon Best Wishes series, but people always talk crap about it.

(PenguinTruth, stay away!) I loved Stephany Nadolny as Kid Goku, but she gets lots of hate. I also enjoyed Linda Young as Freeza, but i like Chris Ayers better.

I guess what I`m trying to say is that people like stuff...

I liked it when I first played it even though I knew it sucked big sweaty Oozaru testicles, I mean performing even the most simple button combination was a total pain but it was Dragon Ball and that's all that really mattered at the time.

Played it for the first time as a kid. It was a Dragon Ball game, so obviously I loved it, and was entirely ignorant about how much it sucked. I remember when Budokai came out... hm, I seem to remember just... not playing UB22 anymore.

I agree, and concerning Sonic 06, Sonic 06 is generally an awful broken game but it has some content worth checking out, the cutscenes, music and graphics (yes I find the graphics to be really good & I disagree with that guy who said they were bad).
