I assume he wrote "winder" to sound hickish, like how some people pronounce "pillow" as "piller." Of course, you know what they say about when you assume.

Wow...he really is the worst :lol:

One Piece readers get SBS...and Dragon Ball readers got this.

Still...somehow this just makes me like the man even more. I love how he always complains about work and having to water his dad's Banzai trees. He kind of reminds me of Hiramaru Kazuya from Bakuman. xD

Yeah, I love that about Toriyama. He's not perfect, he isn't obsessed with his work or his craft. He's a normal guy and I think that shows in his work. He doesn't have any concrete ideas about writing or demographs, he just writes what pleases him at the moment. It's his honesty that makes him so relatable.

I'll agree that he doesn't put in as much work as Oda but it's unfair to compare this to the SBS. A better comparison would be his "Ask Me Anything Corner", even that is much more meta.

Pretty sure Kazuya is supposed to be based off of Gintama's author.

Still enjoying these. X3

I guess we won't find out what happened to those missing kittens.

Where were those sparrows that a snake got to them? O_O;;

The Bonsai tree saga amuses me every time it pops up. XD

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Yeah, and what's more, Oda likewise writes little comments like this in each Jump issue. I haven't checked them out myself, but I doubt they're much more in-depth than Toriyama's. They're just supposed to be short comments on what's up with them.

Greg W translated several of Oda's author comments which you can see here: http://www.thegrandline.com/odatoc.htm And yep, pretty similar to Toriyama's. For instance here's the most recent he's got up there from 2011:

Alright, I guess that wasn't a fair comparison.

I think all those "DragonballZ is srs business" guys should give this a read.

Just wondering, did Toriyama actually refer to his console as an NES or did you just change that for the translations. Wouldn't he actually say the Famicom since he was (and still is) living in Japan at the time?
