DB references popping up when you least expect them

Post by Ringworm128 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 8:16 pm

Have you ever been watching TV, playing video games etc when a reference to DB (or something that reminds you of DB) comes up that you weren't expecting? I honestly wasn't expecting Freeza's hover chair to pop up during this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNTltkuR ... re=related

I'm pretty sure there was a SS4 Goku reference in a Britney Spears music video or something. I'm probably wrong on that artist name.

Indeed you are my friend. SS4 Goku and normal Goku appears in christina aguilera's music video ''What a girl wants''

Frank Ocean mentions Majin Buu in one of his songs called "Pink Matter".

I remember Porky Pig once said "they got bored and went home to watch a rerun of DragonBall" in some Looney Tunes cartoon. Kinda blew my mind.

This new commercial for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia makes a bit fun at Japanese shows and has some of the cast powering up.

I remember reading somewhere that there was once a DBZ parody on Johny Bravo. Is that true?

Even more ironic is that he's Agent #4 who is displayed as Goku who has an affection for the 4 star Dragon Ball.

There's an old, famous web cartoon called Homestar Runner. There's a short where it saturizes Japanese anime. In one instance, it parodies DBZ power-ups.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtoU7OqgDqI#t=1m38s

Also at the end, there's a silhouette of what looks like Piccolo.

Those anime shorts have other DBZ reference... I remember one where the Stinkoman looked like a Super Saiyan. He had the hair and aura.

I think I actually remember seeing the Duck Dodgers joke on TV. Didn't have much of a reaction because new Duck Dodgers is amazing like that.

When I saw Elektra with my friend, a part of me lauged to myself upon hearing the Hand's leader was addressed as Master Roshi. Will say due to personal typecasting, I couldn't see him as Roshi in a live-action adaptation. Crane Hermit or Tao Pie Pie, but not Roshi.

Love that one.

Also, I remember there being a reference in Chowder (a show I thoroughly disliked but watched anyways) where Shnitzel turned Super Saiyan and did a Hadoken. I also saw Kid Goku flying on the Kinto'un in the Ultimate Showdown Music Video.

Although I don't really think it counts but Ryoga's depression-powered Ki wave carries a strong resemblance to Kamehameha.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

There's no Dragon Ball reference as classic as the one in Stephen Chow's "The Flirting Scholar".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3qRYoF ... re=related

(fast-forward to 1:35:30)

Shaw Brothers screen legend Cheng Pei-Pei even makes a remark referencing Dragonball even further by saying "Such strong ki". There's even a "over 9000" joke thrown in the mix.

And yes, this is the Stephen Chow who helped produce "Dragon Ball Evolution". He tried to keep the movie faithful to the comic but FOX intervened.
The world is your's.

And, who can forget Chicken Ball Z! Don't have a link, but it's a Billy and Mandy episode that pokes fun at Dragon Ball and Super Saiyans.

There's an episode in ReBoot season 4 (or a segment of the movie "My Two Bobs" depending on how you watch it) where a game parodies Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon at the same time.

Judging from the audio pitch, it is from the initial Anchor Bay DVD which had an improper PAL to NTSC conversion.
