I'm still hoping that within the next 35 years or so, some random English-speaking country decides to give their own take on DBZ... and do it right, of course. If not.... once I die and become one with the universe, I'll make sure it happens... but if I'm one with the universe I guess language won't matter much anyway...

The scripts were a little bit different... on YTV they used Ocean's dub but kept the closed captioning the Funimation version
so Buu says "Do you think Buu Handsome?" and the captioning says "Do you think Buu sexy?"
There's more minor ones like that.
Living in Canada, we too got the Ocean Group and Blue Water dubs... though we started when Gohan went SS2... odd
I'm gonna say I like the Funimation voices better, except Buu, Scott McNeil does a good Buu

I think for the Canadian dub there were a couple of voices that were different than the UK version. Like I think Cell was played by Richard Newman instead of Dale Wilson.

I can't get the audio to work. I was able to download, save, and extract the files, and even when I open a clip I can see the movement from the sound on the bars...but I don't hear anything.

EDIT: Nevermind! I got it to work. I'm not sure how, but I did.

It's interesting to hear Drummond's Vegeta speaking the Sabat one's lines. He still sounds good though.
The pink shirt line is always fun.
Does he do their GT version of Vegeta as well? I couldn't tell but that one sounded as though his voice were purposely aged. I didn't care for it as much.

Chi-Chi talks tremendously fast.

What type of accent was Ocean's Bulma going for?

I like Funi's chibi Trunks and Goten better, their voices are much more hyperactive than Ocean's.
On hiatus.

No, the GT voices were different, since I believe it was dubbed by Ocean Group's sister dubbing agency, Blue Water (they also did G Gundam).

As for Bulma, they switched Lilaina Lindenberg with Maggie Blue O'Hara in the Ocean dub of the Android and Buu sagas...and uh, I think just about every single character she's EVER played ends up sounding exactly the same: like a valley girl x_x;; I think Maggie O'Hara also played Bulma in the old Ocean-dubbed episodes of Dragonball as well.

Hello.
I haven't posted in a while but I stumbled across this thread, and i have a couple of old video clips of Canadian DBZ, both of the Final Atonement episode, i have uploaded here. Hopefully it isn't a TOS violation.

Wow, thanks Sabre o_O

That was...interesting, to say the least. The punching scene seemed like it lost all of the emotional value it once had. I LOVE Jillean Micheals' Shippo voice, but she didn't even make Goten seem like he gave a shit about the situation x_x; The other clip was a little bit better, especially that one quiet line that the Scott McNiel Piccolo had when they were flying off. Brian Drummond...I KNOW he had a better one in him for that. The dying scream at the end was the only thing that was even SORT of okay, but he could've done a better job on that. Kuririn and Fat Buu...I don't even NEED to say anything about that >_>

Nonetheless, thanks for putting those up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember listening to some of the sound effects on the UK version of DragonBall Z, and I think that they didn't recieve the original sound effect or something, and added their own. Ex. When Cell blows up King Kai's planet. And the back ground music to the UK version is just ...blech. Some voice actors were better at the dub than the other, but overall, the FUNimation dubbed version is much better.

Maybe they had to make their own sound effects, considering they were getting their masters in the form of edit-version video track tapes from FUNi, and they couldn't use FUNi's audio track, so they had to make their own sound effects. I live in the States, so I'm not too sure about that, however I suppose it's a logical guess. Hm? :?

I think that's it. Maybe Ocean didn't get the IT (international track - with only BGM and SFX for dubbing) from FUNimation, but only the video material.
