How will the future generations remember Kai or know?

Post by dbboxkaifan » Fri Nov 02, 2012 9:29 am

Of all Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball Kai is probably the second or first most disliked (DBGT seems to most if not all negative feedback) plus, it only lived from 2009 to 2011 and lastly, the music scandal did not help it at all.

If I were to suggest someone to watch Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Kai, I'd probably suggest DBZ since it covers the whole manga (Saiyan to Buu), but Kai with the original score is a pretty good alternative too.

What was Toei Animation thinking when they produced Kai the way they made it. :? It truly had a lot of potential (watch Saiyan to Friеza's arc to get an idea of what awesomeness Kai could've been all the way to the end -- with Majin Buu arc which doesn't exist).
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

And if they prefer dubs more?

Or you could have them watch Kai Vol 1-8, then tell them to buy DBZ season sets 7-9...

True. Though the quality in acting would be different, it's tolerable and the actors were getting much better by then.

Normally the dubs in this case are better around this time, but it's all a matter of opinions, really.

For the case of the English Kai FUNimation dub they could encounter a couple of voices that are annoying.

While this is true (for the FUNimation dub), there's the option of choosing which dub the viewer prefers.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I myself just view it as an alternative to Z. It's basically a much more manga pure version of Z, it is of course still anime.

Kai would have been better if it retained it's original score from Yamamoto and also completed the Buu saga as well. Because of these 2 huge falties it'll probably be tossed aside 10 years from now.

Personally i really like Japanese Kai with the score from Yamamoto for the Saiyan-Freeza-Cell arcs.

Toei will probably have reanimated the entire show in the future so Kai will simply be forgotten.

Less than they would if they watched DBZ then. But really, I doubt they'd find the voices in Kai to be annoying without anything to compare them to. ...Till they get to DBZ and go "What the fuck happened to Bulma!?". Everyone else would sound the same, right? Oh, Number 18 would be different too, huh... They'd probably also find that change to be unpleasant.

Piccolo and Vegeta would sound different, though not as much as Bulma.

True. Gohan could possibly be a shocker as well just because the voice is so un-Gohan-like. I always found Hebert's Gohan to be very unfitting for him. I was pleasantly surprised by Swaile's Gohan, though. Way better than Hebert and Nozawa.

Yeah, it takes a real man to re-watch all of the Freeza Saga (especially dubbed), and not want to commit suicide. :P

Well slap a tutu on me and call me "Princess," then, because I've seen and own the Kai version of the Freeza arc and I'm never going back. I can't go back.

Yeah...I'm a little worried about that the next time I watch the show too, since it'll probably be dubbed since the last time was subbed. I was able to survive the bad dubbing before because it was what I grew up on and hadn't seen the sub yet. Watching it subbed, the vast expanse of Namek episodes still about killed me. So mixing both back together for a re-visit...I...I don't even...
