Saiyan armor model?
I think I heard somewhere that the inspiration for the model for the Saiyan Armor came from American football uniforms. I can definitely see the similarities, but can anyone confirm this?
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

Army armour or American Football.
I don't really see the point of American Football using protective armour when sports are supposed to be non-violent. Between American Football and Rugby, I'd probably prefer Rugby any day.

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

I guess it's Japanese armor. Its cuisses, spaulders, and cuirass all look like those of Saiyan armor.

I take it you've never been tackled before...dbboxkaifan wrote:Army armour or American Football.

...Anyway back on topic. Do you have a link or anything that references this? I've never heard anything like it before but I can kind of see the similarities to Saiyan armor and basic Shoulder Pads.

But like Kei17, I'd always assumed it was based off of Samurai armor. Maybe he was inspired by both.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

It's an old rumor, so no, I don't have a reference. But I can also see the similarities in the spandex pants, (and the sleeveless of uniforms now). I was just curious.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:I take it you've never been tackled before...dbboxkaifan wrote:Army armour or American Football.

I always assumed that it was just an original design.
Speaking of, I always thought that if someone were to do a live action DBZ fan film, re-colored martial arts sparring armor would've fit the bill for Saiyan armor.

People get serious brain injuries even with helmets. So I don't think it'd be good to go without them, you know?dbboxkaifan wrote:I don't really see the point of American Football using protective armour when sports are supposed to be non-violent. LOL those are totally the same type of armor for that fan trailer!Kendamu wrote:I always assumed that it was just an original design.

The saiyan armor looks a lot like samurai armor too me. Even used it in Soulcalibur V. Looks spot on.

The fan trailer uses Motocross armor. At least it looks like that anyway.

Re: Saiyan armor model?
As far as I know Toriyama's never said anything about Saiyan armor being inspired by American football uniforms. On the flipside, in Son Goku Densetsu he and Nakatsuru discuss how Bardock's shoulder pad-free armor was inspired by the armor worn by Toshiro Mifune's character in Seven Samurai.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Re: Saiyan armor model?
Like SparkyPantsMcGee said, the fan trailer is using Motocross armor. The stuff I linked to is less plastic-like and more flexible to allow martial arts moves to be easily done, stretches to fit, and it disburses the force of attacks landed on the torso. It makes a ton more sense than what they're using in the live action trailer.Jackal puFF wrote:LOL those are totally the same type of armor for that fan trailer!Kendamu wrote:I always assumed that it was just an original design.

Re: Saiyan armor model?
I've always had the same belief as Kei17 that it's based on Japanese battle armor. The American Football thing has always come to mind too.
