I assumed the person in the background was male, but when I look at it again, it does seem to have a body of woman. If so, I sure hope she's a villain. We need more female villains.

They'll overlook the consistency and simply do whatever they want with it, just as they always have in the films.

You mean just for the sake of the promotional art? Yeah, perhaps so. Someone did already mention that, I think.

The movie takes place in the years between the defeat of Buu and the tournament where Goku met Uub. Thus, Goten's not necessarily a teenager yet.

Yes, and if Goten and Trunks are going to follow the same pattern as Goku and Gohan, then it's likely they won't have any big growth spurts until age 14 or 15 or so. Goten and Trunks could be something like 11 or 12 years old in this new movie yet still look the same.

They'll probably still ACT the same as they did in the Boo arc/movies and 2008 special, though, even if they are supposed to be a few years older.

Not to mention that we barely ever see Toriyama draw any originally-child characters from Dragon Ball in their (realistically proportioned) adolescence, other than 16/17/18-year-old (at 17-18 for males, you're practically in your adult body anyway, and it's even earlier for females) Son Gohan in the Majin Boo arc. And if I was to specify lower adolescence (11-14), then the number of characters gets even smaller.

For the record, though, Gohan, at least, seemed to have a pretty normal maturation cycle. Apart from his "badass shots" at the Cell Games, he always looked his age. Didn't really act it, no, but that's because of his hardened education and him having to mentally mature faster than his peers due to seeing so many people he knew, close friends and family, all getting killed, one after the other (primarily/specifically, the Saiyan fight).

And the thing about Saiyans only getting growth spurts until (I think it's more like) 16-18 seems to be more speculation (while at least supported, though) than anything. Vegeta only ever said that they retain their youth longer because they're a warrior race, which can be interpreted in any number of ways. And besides, it's not as if it was only Gokuu that was an unusually short/underdeveloped teenager. Just look at Chi-Chi or Kuririn (especially Kuririn, known for his short height, which is what made his moustache at the end of Z and in GT so comical), back when they were 12/13 and 15/16 (of course, in the manga, Chi-Chi's only appearance since her initial meeting with Gokuu and Roushi was at the 23rd TB, but like Gokuu and Kuririn, she'd barely changed since then in the anime).

Is this supposed to tie between GT. I thought GT was just a side story, are they really counting that series. Then it is contradicted when it is placed before the 10 year time skip.

I'm in the camp that he was always able to transform. The way I saw it, the Elder Kai Unlock thingy was just bringing all of Gohan's potential out in his most convenient form; his base form. That way, he has full access to his power without any fatigue. He could still transform, but it would just burn through his ki faster and essentially waste it. Transforming into a Super Saiyan, while dealing with ki, is part of his blood and race. I can't understand how Elder Kai would remove that part of his genetic makeup & replace it with the Mystic form.

I always saw it more like taking away (or rather, releasing) the hidden power that triggered the transformation removed...well, the trigger. It didn't alter his genetic makeup; it just bypassed it.

But anyway, if you're right and he could transform into a Super Saiyan pointlessly and wastefully, then I'd like to know why he'd use it in this movie. I'm not bothered by it, per se, and there are potential explanations. I'm just curious enough to hope they explain it, you know?

Yeah, I'm leaning towards that too. What's funny is that his hair looks like his ultimate form, but they probably re colored it Super Saiyan for the promotion. I honestly don't think they dropped the form for no reason.

I hope so. I hate how SSJ would be back for no reason. Nothing suggests the potential unlocking was temporary, so why not just have Gohan hold back. It seemed in the 13th movie that he did a sort of transformation to unleash his power, though it could be considered powering up.

The more I look at this poster, the more I get a DBO, Towa creating Miira, vibe...

Based off the little info I could find, the new pair of characters seem to be based off the Egyptian Goddess Unut/Wenut/Wenet and her companion Wenenu, who supposedly serve as guardians in the afterlife or something. Perhaps the new girl could actually be a Makaioshin and the movie will have ties with Hell or Makai. The background of the poster looks kinda like it has a weird tree, possibly a dying Kaiju or something? It would kinda make sense with the whole god theme, IMO.

The first thing that struck me about the floating being in the background is that his/her clothing looks very much like clothing worn by members of the Fire Nation from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Cannot unsee that now

I like Egyptian-style purple cat guy (I'm assuming it's a cat, unless those ears go up significantly more). It's different than what we've seen before. Toriyama's taken real-world inspiration for plenty of his designs, so why not Egyptian? And he likes to use colors for his villains that make them look like they wouldn't be a threat (like pink and purple), so here we have a giant purple cat. As a cat person, I have no problem with this design

And on a completely random note: having looked at this image before bed, it caused me to have a dream last night that I was looking at screenshots from the movie and then watching a trailer for it. None of the new characters made it into the dream, though. The only thing I distinctly remember is there was a scene in the trailer where Bulma was at a beach running around in a red thong bikini. What the...I don't...huh? So, if my prophetic dream turns out to be correct (approximate likelihood: zero), there will be a beach scene in the upcoming movie!
