Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

The Kanji for the movie is still "Kami to Kami," but the Engrish title is "Battle of Gods."

I guess it's just the best way to translate Kami to Kami.
God and God or God VS God wouldn't sound too well for an occidental title, so they went for Battle of Gods for a more epic and attractive title (although I would have personnaly titled it A Battle of Gods or Battle of the Gods, but I guess they essentially went for the first solution while suppressing the article "A"), it's the official international title for now (I don't think anyone uses the Japanese titles to refer to movies anyway, people will essentially say "I'm gonna watch Battle of Gods", although people tend to go with the number instead of any title anyway - like "Movie 10", "Movie 13"...).

The pages confirm quite a lot about the movie, including Akira Toriyama’s actual involvement with its production. It notes that he not only came up with the movie’s original concept, but also the actual story and character designs.

I imagine this means the type of humorous shenanigans I hope to see involving Vegeta and Pilaf may actually occur. *_*

Also, that new Toriyama ssj Goku art; very nice.


I hope there's more info in next week's VJump about the plot though; if we've been spoilered on everything it may have contained, and I still don't know what's up with that face/pose on the Vegeta figure-related-to-the-movie, well...well I guess I'll just have to wait some more, but I hope I don't have to and I'll learn something about it next week.

I keep forgetting that the poster hasn't been officially released yet. So all these are supposed to be leaked. When were we supposed to receive some official info? Jump tour in December?

Well, this is official information from Toei and Shueisha. It was just leaked early, that's all. All of the "Jump" magazines were set to feature this information in their next issues, but it hit the streets and internet a little earlier than anticipated. The only thing that isn't officially released yet is the poster, although it appears that it's only a matter of time until it is officially released.

We can't even call it a translation, it just appears to be the official English title of the movie per Toei's doing. They've had weird, and completely different, movie titles for some of the international releases of their films. It's just to spice up the title a little. Although they could have easily called it "Battle of Gods" (バトルの神; Batoru no Kami) in Japanese. I mean it's not that much longer than what they have, although I guess it would screw up their new logo for the movie. I do still have a feeling that "Kami to Kami" may simply be a subtitle to "Battle of Gods", but we'll have to wait to get some clarification on that.

Woo-hoo for it being confirmed! I'm even more excited for the movie now, for some reason I get the feeling it's going to be well worth the wait...even though we won't get it over here for a year afterwards at the very least.

Surely you'd prefer that over, say, the return of Broly or something. I dunno, the Egyptian cat is odd looking, but also cool looking if you ask me, and it's hardly the first time we've had an odd looking foe in the franchise.
