They are really inconsistent because previously they put "Sinal Solar" instead of "Taio Ken", maybe the english dub changed it too just like they did with "Kienzan" and "Destructo Disk".

Did the "Elder" had a anime in the old dub? I don't remember... and I miss Freezer.

Don't forget the great portuguese adaptation, "Spirit Bomb". Surely they must be some obscure words I didn't know about :P (Caught that one recently in a Goku vs Vegeta re-run, not sure when it first aired)

A sudden onslaught of accuracy seems to have overtaken the subtitles in today's episode. While I admittedly haven't been following every episode, I felt like watching it today, and this is like night and day. While a few days ago, the subtitles were still based on the English dub, today's subtitles were anything but. Every line was an accurate translation of the Japanese, the subtitles used 'ciborgue' instead of 'androide' and 'número' before the numbers, and 'Kakarrot' instead of 'Kakarot'. I don't know what happened, but I certainly welcome this new subtitle accuracy.

I read on a portuguese forum that a fansubber was hired by the company who're dealing with the subbing of this series, so this may be why.

Well, this is good I suppose, since buying anime in Portugal is a rarity this comes handy for those who don't know English, Spanish or are just lazy to watch in a different language (sub/audio).

Well, more like for them. I rather watch it in English (sub) or Spanish (dub) than Portuguese, and don't pay for ZON/MEO or whatever, plus I don't give 2 kites about Portuguese television so I'm out.

Oh yeah, by Puto's comment they're already by the Android's arc.. I only liked Kai from the Saiyan arc to Friеza's arc. I wonder how it looks converted to 3D on a 3DTV (I don't own one, but curious if it improves the cinematic experience). :P

Yeah not gonna happen. Though at least we might get the Cell arc with proper subtitles!

The accurate subtitles continue today, as we get 'Tenshinhan' and 'Muten Roshi' for the first time ever in the Kai subs.

They still spell Freeza's name with an 'i' though.

The name Friеza's more known and used than Freeza, it's in video games, episodes, figures and etc.

Image

I'm perfectly fine with Friеza, the letter 'e' is silent so it makes it Friza (close to Furiza) but hardcore fans and other official figure products, FUNimation DBZ DVD releases also have Freeza.

There's always a tendency for misuse of 'i' for 'e'. *sigh*

Just so you know, this sentence makes absolutely zero sense.

If you're inferring that a adaptation of the name having an "i" in it somehow makes it closer to the original kana just because of its raw romanization... I... guess...?

Regardless, I'm super happy for you guys that a new translation randomly popped up. That's awesome news.

Thank god for Tiago's translation (he is known better as uzumaki10 in the Portuguese anime forums). The woman who was making the subs before probably hadn't watched Dragon Ball ever. We got to the poing of having "Rei Frio" as the Portuguese name for King Cold (Rei Frio would be a WAY TOO LITERAL translation of King Cold).
I almost fell from my bed when I saw Muten Roshi in the subs.

Did the "bonus" episode 98 air in France? That would help in knowing if we're 5 or 6 episodes away from the end of this part of Kai.

I remember asking Sangofe about something and in that list it had episode 98. But what does Portugal and France have in common for Kai?

Portugal - Japanese audio w/English dubtitle script
France - French Kai dub

The fact that they also had a subtitled broadcast of the japanese version of the 16:9 broadcast, and we probably got it from them.

So it's actually complete, then. Cool, thanks :)

Yeah, we'll probably get 98.

Also, the subs haven't been dubtitles for quite a while.

Yeah, thank god they changed translators lol. We finally have Mr.Satan! :D
It makes it worth the few adaptation quirks we've been getting from him lol

Two episodes 'til the end.
It all ends tomorrow with episode 98 (well, at least until the Boo arc, if SIC Radical ever buys it; it's more likely than us actually getting a dub. :P)

To what extent is their a demand for a Portuguese dub of Kai? I've heard of people saying that they're so glad it's a sub-only airing, and I've heard other people saying that there are tons of fans who want to see the cast of the Portuguese dubs of DB/DBZ/DBGT return.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."
