What do you guys think of SSJ4?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I think the whole tail thing needs another look at since Toriyama said tails aren't needed anymore after a Saiyan becomes strong enough without it. I think maybe the tail returns, but in the colour of the SSJ4 form, and is as strong as the rest of a Saiyans body. The tail would return when a Saiyan has control over all SSJ forms and could only return when a Saiyans body is ready to make the transformation into the Ultimate Form. My idea ain't great but I like it more then GT's.

Should have been the original SSJ design.

I think it's alright. I like it when I first saw it as a kid before GT was released in the US, but now I think it's meh. SSj3 will always be my favorite SSj form.

I like it. I view it as a forced evolution of the Saiyan's base form, in a way.

Only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't permanently break the wish that turned Goku into a kid.

It kind of makes more sense that way if you consider the form as just a temporary physical transformation like Oozaru, given that's where the SSj4 stems from in the first place.

True, though I still agree with him kinda. It just seems weird for Goku to revert to an adult body for the form, but not for the other forms.

My own personal pet theory on this is that it's because he hadn't reached the form prior to being wished young again. If he hadn't reached Super Saiyan 3 until after the wish either, then he'd revert to an adult form there; or vice versa, if he'd already reached SS4 before the wish, we'd have a little kid version of the form running around.

It's because it's not even close to being the same as the original Super Saiyan forms, they only share a name out of convenience. It's not that Goku reverts back to his adult body with SS4 features, the transformation is giving him a new one, just like how Oozaru morphs the body. And its not just Goku either. Even for Vegeta, he gets an entirely "new" body when he transforms. The scene where he drops out of SS4 in the final fight has him getting not only smaller muscles, but a fairly noticeable drop in height and a change in attire as well:

Despite how inconsistent Toriyama was with the size of an Oozaru, I don't think a child would be of the same size as an adult when transformed.

Your opinion. Unless we get a SS4 transformation for a character that is truly a child, there is no evidence for that side of the argument. All we can say is that an adult and an adult-turned-child both end up with adult sized bodies that were not the same size as their originals, so it's fairly possible that any Saiyan who reaches the form would end up with an adult frame regardless of their original age.

I think it's just safest to assume that there's a "standard" size for a Super Saiyan 4.

Then why are the two we see different sizes?

I think it's a very nice man and it can chill at my house any time.

EDIT: Plus one for the theory of it just defaulting to an adult-sized body, please. I never imagined it was somehow temporarily breaking the red Shen-Long's powers or whatever in Goku's case. It's a cross between their giant monkey and humanoid forms, so it makes sense that it may change the physical size and other characteristics of its user.

EDIT EDIT: And, yes, the magically appearing clothes are stupid, but .... shhhhhh. We don't talk about that.

I think Super Saiyan 4 gives Goku an adult body because it's like: "A child body? Hell no. I'm the strongest Saiyan--I have to be in my prime!"

I like to imagine in my head that if an old man Goku transformed into Super Saiyan 4, he'd get younger.

Good point. And would Nappa actually get smaller when transformed?

I believe that Kaboom means that there is a standard size for each Saiyan, not one size for every Saiyan. So, if Goku or Vegeta transform into SS4 while they are 10 years old, or 90 years old, they would still transform into their young (and maybe taller) bodies.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

It was unnecessary. 3 Super Saiyan forms is enough.

GT was sucking pretty bad though by the time SS2 made its debut, so I can see why they came up with it. Probably to get more ratings.

I think Super Saiyan 4 is ok. I wish they made the hair, fur, and tail yellow, I think it would have given more meaning to the word "Super". Goku and Vegeta look similar to their normal forms in SS4 with the black hair.

Wait, what? Sorry, maybe it's the way you wrote it, but I don't understand what you are saying here. GT was sucking pretty bad by the time SSJ2 made its debut? SSJ2 was around long before GT was concepted.

I like it enough, it was a nice change of pace from the previous 3 transformations.

I like the look of SSJ4, but it feels wrong to call it "Super Saiyan".
I've been thinking about it recently and came to this possible theory. It's complete bullshit but it could sorta work for head cannon so hear me out.

We've already stated how SSJ4 could be like reverting to a Saiyans natural state, and this was achieved through an Oozaru form right? (Sorry if I'm wrong here my GT knowledge is very rusty.) So what if they never did transform into that 'Natural Saiyan form'? what if they continued to get stronger without it and reached higher levels of SSJ visually consistent with the forms we've already seen? They probably wouldn't be as strong as 'Natural Saiyan' but they'd certainly be stronger than SSJ3. And in canon the reason we never see these forms is because 'NSJ' ( ) is much stronger, if they can already reach that, using/training to attain the other forms would be counter-productive.

Everything about SSJ4 just seems way too different for me to fully see it as a Super Saiyan form, and whilst completely made up based on other peoples theories, I think this theory could hold up. Until I get called out on like ten different things.
