Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Why not? There was usually two movies a year during the original run, I don't see why they couldn't have another one ready by the end of 2014, especially if they start working on the plot now while the animators are, well, animating, the story they already finished...

Yeah, but those were much shorter than what I presume this film is gonna be. Not to mention they've still got One Piece to balance, and possibly the next Sailor Moon incarnation as well. And Toriko. I'm just saying Toei might have a lot on their plate to shove another movie out that quickly.

Not to mention they may want to see how well this one does first (though I think it's going to make back it's budget and then some by a LOT).

That's just my thoughts on it though, and believe me - I would be thrilled to turn out to be wrong on this. Hell, I'm voting against myself in my heart.

They could accomplish all that by having Toriyama and someone else bat around ideas until the movie is released. If it flops, which I don't see happening, well...plenty of stuff gets scrapped before exiting the concept stages. lol Point being they don't have to charge in head first. I'd think close to two years would be a decent chunk of time for the project when they were previously chucking out two films in half that before.

Hmm.... Okay, here's what I think. Bils wakes up after sleeping for a while and hears about some dude named Freeza who was apparently so strong that he had the Universe under his rule. He naturally assumes he's pretty strong (But under his standards, so he overestimates). He then hears that someone EVEN STRONGER comes along and beats him, so he overestimates Goku's strength as well. Poor Bils, he's gonna be disappointed

True enough. Like I said, I'd love nothing more than being wrong on this and seeing another movie as soon as 2014. I'd love to see where they take it from here, since they're facing off with a god this time around.

I still can't wait to see how Pilaf ties into all of this, even if it's just a gag towards the beginning and end or something.

Hmm.... Okay, here's what I think. Bils wakes up after sleeping for a while and hears about some dude named Freeza who was apparently so strong that he had the Universe under his rule. He naturally assumes he's pretty strong (But under his standards, so he overestimates). He then hears that someone EVEN STRONGER comes along and beats him, so he overestimates Goku's strength as well. Poor Bils, he's gonna be disappointed

That could work pretty well, it gels nicely with what we do already know.

But still, taking his growth into account and things like Super Saiyan 2 and 3 on top of it, even Goku's probably capping out at a few hundred times stronger than Freeza now. So Billy must be REALLY something if Goku's not even a challenge for him.

Which, and I can't help but think this way at least a little, would explain this guy being a threat to guys like Gohan and Gotenks, too.

I should've asked before, but near the end of the 2nd paragraph where the plot summary is I see Vegeta's name; is it just there in a "Goku, Vegeta, and everyone else" way, or does it say something about what happens to Vegeta himself?

Toei Animation probably won't have a new One Piece movie until December 2014, two years from now, meaning there is still a good year or so for another Dragon Ball movie to go into production for a 2014 release. Saint Seiya Omega will likely end in April or May, leaving a small gap in Toei's schedule before Sailor Moon's new animated project is supposed to come out.

Wasn't it implied that his name could possibly be "Virus" (Birusu)?
While the virus is kept asleep somewhere, everything remains balanced.
When the virus is awoken and in activity, it spreads destruction all over.

Maybe that's what's meant in this plot text: it's the fact that he's sleeping that brings balance to the universe.
When awake, he's the ultimate entity of destruction ("Evil God" for a living being, "virus" for a computer).

But I don't know Japanese phonetics enough to know if it can be a possible inspiration.
I remember someone mentionned that possibility of "Virus" though.

Who knows if Goku will even be able to go all out against him? Maybe he'll only fight him in SSJ and that's why they say "Bils completely overpowered him". I wouldn't hold my breath.
And if Bils has some fucked up magical powers that prevent Goku from transforming or going max power, then that's also kinda disapointing.

What bugs me is Birusu's line: "地球にはもっと破壊しがいのあるヤツがいるといい…" This sentence is kinda strange that it has two possible meanings.

1) There should be a tougher guy on the earth.
2) I hope there is a tougher guy on the earth.

Or maybe it's a typo and he actually says "いるという" (It is said that there is-).

I think a 30th anniversary movie would be possible in 2014. Some franchises get nothing special, but I can see Dragon Ball getting something good in 2014. I still like to see something similar to Sonic Generations which would have Goku meeting up with his younger self.

The question is whether Birusu was awake during Buu's creation and first rampage. By the way, if he's supposed to maintain the balance of the Universe, then who did that while he was sleeping?

Perhaps the universe has been unbalanced this whole time? For that matter, perhaps Whis is a god of creation who counterbalances Bils, and is therefore not actually a villain as we've assumed? Or maybe Whis was originally good or neutral, but has become evil due to not having Bils around to counterbalance him?

That's actually a really good theory, since their names are kinda, sorta, a little bit, similar. And them both being new characters, they've gotta be connected somehow.

Ah! Finally! Some plot points!

It's interesting how Goku is defeated and someone stronger has to step up. Isn't that what they wanted you to think for movie 13 as well? Oh well. First new movie in 17 years, I'm excited!

Yep, it's being used in the general "Vegeta, Gohan, and all the other regular Z warriors..." sort of way. So no details yet on what specific roles any of the other characters besides Gokuu are going to have. But it should turn out to be something fun, especially with that adorable Vegeta figure we've seen pictures of ^_^
