There is no reason for GT to be set aside as non-canon. Also, DBO doesn't replace GT. First, it takes place thousand years after GT and A Hero's Legacy. The manga explicitly states that nobody but really good guys get to keep their bodies in the afterlife, and that villains are cleansed of their memories and then reincarnated. Oob's existence ten years after Pure Boo's death implies that it's a very quick process. So that's an anime-induced plot hole.JeffJarrett wrote:The Tuffles and their story seem to have been Toriyama's idea while the Plantians were created by Ooishi Naho, villains also keep their body in Hell in DBZ. Also, DBO doesn't replace GT. First, it takes place hundred years afer GT and A Hero's Legacy, secondly it's a video game that wasn't even released in Japan. And video games are less canon than anime series.
DBO does include a timeline of events after the end of DBZ, which explicitly excludes the events of GT. So yes, GT cannot exist in DBO's timeline. And who's to say that this particular video game, which had heavy involvement from Akira Toriyama is less canon than GT? GT had very little involvement from Akira Toriyama.
In the end, if you want to put GT into your idea of canon, then you can. But generally, the manga is the highest level of canon you can get.

Even if you can add something like Movie 12 or GT as your personal canon, it would be impossible to have it fit nevertheless.

Oi, a movie exclusive power up is something I definitely don't want to see happening.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I wouldn't mind a "movie exclusive" power-up, so long as it didn't actually stay exclusive to Battle of Gods if we eventually get a follow-up film or a series or whatever.

Same here. We're nearly thirty years into the franchise, new stuff now isn't going to ruin the universe. We haven't had any new power ups since 1996-1997, either, so I'd really like something new to add to the quilt.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I wouldn't mind a "movie exclusive" power up, so long as it didn't actually stay exclusive to Battle of Gods if we eventually get a follow-up film or a series or whatever.
EDIT: Fixed typo ('ad' to 'add').

Also wouldn't mind a movie-exclusive power-up; Toei does it all the time with Precure's movies. It doesn't necessarily have to make anyone stronger, it could just make them resistant to whatever type of magic it is that Birusu and Uisu use so a physical and ki-based martial arts battle can take place at the end.

You can very easily make it "movie exclusive" without messing up any kind continuity. It could be a power obtained only through some kind of influence brought on by Bils, or... whatever... plot device. Point is, I agree, I wouldn't mind seeing Goku acquire a new ability. The whole series he continually was acquiring new abilities or powers. He always had some new found strength or ability around every corner. I would like to see something like that pop up.JulieYBM wrote:Same here. We're nearly thirty years into the franchise, new stuff now isn't going to ruin the universe. Meh, all the ones I've seen have really sucked. Then again the Naruto movie's Rasengan whoring probably isn't the best comparison...

I don't have a problem with true "movie exclusive" power-ups and I'm not all that worried about it messing up any continuity (whatever condition brings it on, a similar explanation could easily do away with it). I just don't like when such situations arise because it seems like a waste of potential to introduce something new and then never do anything with it afterward (same with False Super Saiyan, some of the Heroes transformations for characters, etc.).bleed0range wrote:You can very easily make it "movie exclusive" without messing up any kind continuity. 'Continuity' is and always has been a big non-issue for Dragon Ball so I see no reason to fear anything about this movie contradicting the events of chapters #518-519.

Well, GT aside there wouldn't be much of a continuity issue with Goku getting even a permanent new transformation/ability/whatever. At the end of the manga and Z, Goku doesn't so much as go Super Saiyan against Oob, so for all we know he could have had all sorts of new tricks up his sleeve that we never saw. As long as this hypothetical new power-up doesn't, I don't know, permanently turn his skin green or something then it should be fine.

Wasn't the Plantians only appear in EoB, while the Tsufuru-jin was Toriyama's idea? For the villains aspect, I'm really curious on that. The manga did mention that only people that are truly good keeps their bodies, but there was a dog running hour in heaven. Either Toriyama simply forgot, or perhaps there are some expectation to the rules? Perhaps the most evil of villains keeps their body, but have to suffer eternally in hell, from boredom or other punishment (Since Pure Boo was a special case since Goku asked for it)? I'm not saying that people have to put GT as canon to the manga, but I don't see any wrong with someone having GT to their personal canon with the manga, nor have to be put aside as non-canon.Hellspawn28 wrote:GT is impossible to be canon to the manga given that villains don't keep their bodies in Hell and the Plantian are likely the true race of Planet Plant then the Tsufuru-jin.
Also, would the release of Bils have something to do with the way Vegeta's expression in the movie, perhaps his "body-switch" wth Pilaf? I mean, Vegeta, like that.. something must be related to Bils someway

Now that they've updated the figures and Vegeta's updated expression is a little less crazy and a little more "I've got you now!", I think it's more what he's doing with his hands than the expression on his face that strikes me as unusual. I mean, they're clasped together and he's holding them up over his heart, that's really odd for Vegeta.
But yes, I do think it's possible Birusu's and Uisu's magic is involved in that.
And I would like to see some magical mayhem befall Vegeta, because I like when absurd stuff happens to him. :3
I am starting to have suspicions that it's Piccolo who gets body-swapped with Pilaf though; due to the fact that Pilaf now matches Piccolo's shade of green from the manga.

Or the dog in question is, as they say, a Good Dog.
Anyway, I have it on good authority that all dogs go to heaven.
Goku specifically says that bad people "like Cell" don't get to keep their bodies. I guess it's possible that people deemed even eviler than Cell are given bodies for punishment purposes, but that wouldn't do much to reconcile the manga with the anime on this matter, since Cell's around for most of those "dead villains in and/or escaping from hell" scenes. It's also notable that the first time hell pops up in filler it's peopled with bodiless spirits, and only Goku and the oni have bodies. So no matter how you cut it, the anime doesn't really have an internally consistent take on the subject.Perhaps the most evil of villains keeps their body, but have to suffer eternally in hell, from boredom or other punishment (Since Pure Boo was a special case since Goku asked for it)?

So how do you explain this?Herms wrote:Anyway, I have it on good authority that all dogs go to heaven.

To make it more confusing, Bulma, Darbra and the others are shown in heaven with half-spirit bodies.Herms wrote:Goku specifically says that bad people "like Cell" don't get to keep their bodies. New Bandai figures.
Also, Mr. Toshio Furukawa (Piccolo role) and Mayumi Tanaka (Kuririn role) will also be at Jump Festa.

Birusu's doing the same pose with his pointer finger in both the new character art and the figurine; I wonder if that's his 'common-sense-violating' magic-spell-casting pose.

A is revealed to be Brolly, and we all learn that the movie's big secret is that this is actually the 4th Brolly movieChuquita wrote:

Anyway, Goku and Vegeta look so bad, but Pilaf and his gang look spectacular.
