ALL OF THE POWER LEVELS!

Kidding (though gracing us with some more power-related factoids like the SEG books did sure wouldn't hurt). I too would like to see more character backgrounds, along with more details on the new movie and clarification for how the status quo might have changed with it.

If this is just mostly recycled stuff, then I'll pass. I have all 10 daizenshuu anyway. I just hope they add more anime and DVD cover art we haven't seen yet...

No, the two different dates come from official Japanese databooks: Age 778 in Daizenshuu and Age 780 in GT Perfect Files.

Nope, Bra's given two different birth years in Daizenshuu 7 (one in the timeline, another in her bio). Gohan's age also has a few contradictions in the series itself and guidebooks. The Funi dub does change Gohan's age at the start of the series though.

Anyway, for these guides, really all I want out of them is some justification for having more guides after all th ones we've already had. Whether that be particularly interesting interviews, coverage of the various new DB stuff that's popped up, or even just Toriyama making up more background info that may or may not fit the series.

Edit

As I mentioned above, Daizenshuu 7 actually contains both dates: the timeline says Age 780, her bio says 778. GT Perfect Files volume 1 has the mini-timeline that's largely borrowed from Daizenshuu 7's timeline, and that repeats the 780 birth year for Bra.

What’s likely is that it’ll have updates on some Daizenshuu information, perhaps now that Toriyama’s back in involvement with the franchise with this new film. Maybe some new interviews with him and/or the voice actors from the DB/Z/GT anime. They might fix a couple of mistakes and/or inconsistencies with other guidebooks, but sadly, it probably won’t be all of them.

What I want is expansion on the history, wildlife, culture, population, and government of Earth, as well as maybe more exploration into characters’ backstories, and some confirmation on some theories I’ve been having. And something about Planet Saiya, the supposed “original” home planet of the Saiyan race, before they migrated to Planet Plant/Vegeta. Oh yeah, and fix that thing that describes the four or so different timelines created by future Trunks’ time machines, eliminating that random one with a Cell Games where Trunks is absent. Plus, more “behind-the-scenes” insight into how Toriyama made the series: story, artwork, etc. Expansion on the god hierarchy, and the Dragon World.

And, for the love of Kami-sama, just give us some stuff on Freeza’s race and their forms.

What I don’t want is more potentially “inaccurate” battle powers to turn the fandom upside its head again, or just recycling information from previous guides. That just wastes space.

Other than that, there’s nothing more I can say on the matter but…Chouzenshuu sounds like an interesting name, and what they need to focus on is separating this line of guidebooks from the rest. Justify its existence.

Never heard that before (although I always wondered why we needed to know Ryu and co.’s blood types in the intro-of-sorts for Street Fighter II). Why do they?

I think it's a cultural thing, where the Japanese say that blood type is indicative of a character's personality, but I'm not certain.

I'll be disappointed if the chouzenshuu end up being mostly reprinted material, considering that's what most of the guide books have been recently. But the timing of them around Battle of the Gods makes me more confident that we'll see a good amount of new material; I'm most interested to see if the continuity between guidebook information is made cohesive.

In Japanese culture, blood type is viewed similarly to Astrological signs in Western culture.

Oh yeah, one obvious thing: Kai. No guide book's covered it yet.

Welp, it seems the first volume will be called "STORY & WORLD GUIDE". Thoughts? Complete regurgitation from the daizenshuu? New material?

A bit of both? :P
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

While it would be disappointment if these just condense the Daizenshuu, the one upside is that, hey, the Daizenshuu are a bitch to find and own in 2012/13. Worst case scenario, these turn out to be the Dragon Ball Kai of the Daizenshuu. :P

I'd like more random stuff along the lines of the Super Exciting Guide's "Mr. Satan's first name is Mark." and "Tenshinhan's favorite modes of transportation are by llama and ostrich." I feel like the book will just end up being compiled daizenshuu though.
On hiatus.

Thing is, we've already basically had that with Landmark and Forever, then again to a lesser extent with the Super Exciting Guides.

Judging by the proximity of the release dates, if there is some new material alongside the recycled ones it doesn't appear it'll be that extensive.

Personally, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Well, I only own the two Perfect File re-prints and the first Daizenshuu so I'm definitely gonna pick these up. Glad that I didn't fork out $40 for the World Guide a couple of months ago. :)
