"KLINGON"

It has been awhile since I've heard the dub and I listen to the podcast frequently so when I think about it I hear VegettoEX's pronunciation. If I were talking to someone about DB I would use whichever depending on who I was talking to.

Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
This is pretty true for me as well. I use the Sigh-an pronunciation for the most part, but when I talk to someone who is more familiar with the FUNimation dub, I say Say-an just so they know what I'm talking about from the get-go.Makaioshin wrote:It has been awhile since I've heard the dub and I listen to the podcast frequently so when I think about it I hear VegettoEX's pronunciation. I'm just... Saiyan.
I don't always pronounce Japanese terms correctly because they just sound either physically more difficult to pronounce (to my American ass) or just plain weird.

I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

Saiya-jin

Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
Well, after my Japanese dub conversion I've gone with the correctly pronounced Saiyan. I wouldn't say Saiya-Jin unless I had a real reason to. I find that sometimes I do say 'sayin' by accident if I'm just chatting away, though.

I say "Say-in". I know it's wrong but, being from Brooklyn I say a lot of things wrong. I'm so used to it now, there's no going back.

Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
I'm from the western part of New England, so I say stuff pretty normal. The only word I say different is "Aunt". Even though I don't have the Boston accent, I (as the rest of New England) usually pronounce Aunt in the Boston way (Ah-nt), but the rest my dialect is the standard "American" accent.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I say "Say-in". When I say Saiya-jin, I actually do use the Japanese pronunciation of it. But when I say Saiyan, it's the Funi dub way. To me that actually makes sense because Saiyan is the American (or western) version of Saiya-jin, therefore I use the American/western pronunciation.

Sai-yan, as it is correctly pronounced.
Here's a video of the narrator saying it at 1:24m - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaiIGgWcPwc

That's more of an Americanisation (FUNimation-fied) really, the rest either uses Super Saiyajin (Latin Spanish / Portuguese Brazilian), Super Saiyan (French) and then there's some in UK that use the proper way or the American.Ketchup_Revenge wrote:To me that actually makes sense because Saiyan is the American (or western) version of Saiya-jin, therefore I use the American/western pronunciation.

Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
I say it the way the dub says it. Like someone else said already, it's just way too ingrained in me to stop saying it that way now. I've had an easier time remembering to say some completely different Japanese names, like Kuririn or Gyu-mao, than I've had trying to remember the correct way to say this one.
Heck, I think I've even said 'Saiya-jin' with kind of the FUNimation pronunciation once, rather than the right way.

Mayans aren't pronounced as Mei-ens but Mai-yans, same goes for Sai-yans.

No, not 'of course', you're doing that thing. You know what it is too, so stop that.jjgp1112 wrote:Say-an, of course.
Personally I'm a sigh-an kinda' guy, I just say it as I read it. Took a while to break from FUNi way of saying it, but I did manage after a while.

Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
It's the same for me. I used to pronounce it how it the dub pronounces it, but hearing it on the podcast I've been able to train myself to say it the proper way.Insertclevername wrote:I pronounce it the way it's supposed to, as in "Sai-yan". I used to say the way Funimation says it, "Sei-yan", but after watching the podcast so much, the original way just stuck. Honestly, I'd like to know how the rest of the forum says it, since it's impossible to tell via text based posts.

'Sy-in'.
'Saiyajin' seems a bit daft--I mean, no one says humajin or namekjin. 'Saiyan', to me, is the most accurate interpretation of it.

Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
That's funny because due to the German dub "Saiyajin" is imprinted into my brain but whenever I talk to a native speaker of English or just a person who knows the show from English dubs it automatically changes to "Saiyan" (the Funi dub way of saying it). I don't really know why. Maybe it's an autocorrection sort of thing and I don't want to be ostracized for saying something completely different than they are used to. But as it seems even here it's pronounced in plenty different ways, which is fun.
But mostly it's Saiyajin for me.

Where I used to live in France, we used to call them Sands, compared to the local Saiyens.
