I...can't really remember the Super 17 arc at all, if I'm honest.

Vegeta was basically saying how he'd be the protector of the Earth in Goku's absence because it was his home and all that uplifting crap.Bussani wrote:I...can't really remember the Super 17 arc at all, if I'm honest.

Okay, then...maybe? I guess I think that uplifting crap scene was pretty cool (hey, I actually do remember it now that you've mentioned it!), but it wouldn't have to be exactly like that to work, either. I don't know exactly what I'd want, if I'm honest.

Re: Vegeta beating Kid Buu
I liked how Vegeta was protecting Earthlings from Hildegarn in a store in the 13th movie. He didn't say anything about it, he just did. Like it had became normal for him to do by that point in the series.
Re: Vegeta beating Kid Buu
Basically they took the only bad ass character that was left and tore him a new personality because why not destroy what people liked about him from Toriyama's work? Piccolo had already become a joke by the Boo saga but Toei had to look at their idea's board and say "How can we destroy these fans childhood even more? I know! Lets revamp Vegeta's character!"Saiga wrote:Vegeta was basically saying how he'd be the protector of the Earth in Goku's absence because it was his home and all that uplifting crap.

I'm sure their first concern was destroying children's memories, and not just making a decent show that brought in the ratingsHitiro wrote:Basically they took the only bad ass character that was left and tore him a new personality because why not destroy what people liked about him from Toriyama's work? Really? Vegeta's little show of character development/depth there was one of the few good things I can remember about the Super 17 arc.

Agreed. The fact that he considers himself an Earthling with the Saiyans pride was great. Even in the manga (Boo arc), he said that he considered the Earth his home, so I don't find him out of character.Kaboom wrote:Really? James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I agree as well. Shame it didn't amount to anything.Kaboom wrote:Really? Vegeta's little show of character development/depth there was one of the few good things I can remember about the Super 17 arc.

Re: Vegeta beating Kid Buu
The bigger question is why didn't they bring Gohan to the supreme planet to beat Kid Buu.

Ugh, no thanks. Had enough Goten and Trunks adventures already.DanTheBib wrote:
I'd love to see a little "Trunks and Goten Have an Adventure" one. They end up wreaking havoc somewhere, or end up inadvertently foiling a robbery or something silly.
