Pre-ordered it on CD-Japan.

And is it better and easier than on Amazon Japan?omegalucas wrote:Pre-ordered it on CD-Japan.
I checked out the link, and searched the site for a bit, and this time - on the contrary of Amazon - there's no message like "you may have to deal with external entities related to the import and extra costs all on your own, good luck with that!".
There's still a bit of confusion with the many shipments available - though they give a little description of each one - but if at least you can pay once and for all and then just wait, having nobody or nothing to deal with after your initial buying, that's already more encouraging! Selecting the product, selecting the delivery, paying once and for all and just waiting to receive your product and enjoy it... That would avoid dissuasive complications.
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
I wonder how they'll decide the color for characters who never got a chance to be shown in full color. And what about backgrounds? What if the background they're in never got properly colored? How do they decide what colors to use for whatever might be shown? Especially if it's an Alien world, or an unnatural object?
Also, will they just color backgrounds as they exist? Or will they add little bits of detail in the coloring process? A nicely detailed background often looks great in color, whether it makes sense or not. Of course, pages meant to be colored will always look best (even though I changed the name of the topic, I'm still dreaming about it being done originally in full color, lol):

Of course, there's always the Dragon Ball SD method of coloring:

But I'm not sure if using the same coloring style as a spin off is quite the best answer (I really wish I had more full color manga examples, but outside of Saikyo Jump, I just don't see much of it, does anyone else have any good examples of full color manga?).
But we know Toriyama's style; even if he had color from the beginning, he'd still find a way to make it quick and easy for himself and his assistant (or assistants, as I imagine coloring weekly would need additional help):

Toriyama's color choices here are quite good, and I think (should they go back to the original Dragon Ball material) they really could at least use these brief color pages as the basis for the style to do the modern coloration.
Do you guys think they're actually asking Toriyama's opinion on the coloring job or going with whatever, and if they are, do you think his memory on something as obscure as the occasional colored page is more of a detriment than a help to such a project?
Honestly, if a coloring job is going to be done, retaining Toriyama's style for full color might work best (but a guy can dream of the what if, can't he?).
Is there any scenes you guys are looking forward to seeing in color?
I'm always a fan of the Ginyu Tokusentai myself (Love me some Super Sentai, and parodies of it as well), I'm wondering how their looks and attacks will compare to the anime's choices.

The ports for Europe are definately cheaper. It was something like over 2000 yen on Amazon but on CD-Japan it's only 1200 yen.Cold Skin wrote:And is it better and easier than on Amazon Japan?omegalucas wrote:Pre-ordered it on CD-Japan.

I'm not 100% sure I'll buy them (my parents didn't seem to like the idea very much) though. I may have to cancel the pre-order later on.

Be very careful when ordering stuff from Japan to Portugal. If it costs more than 22€ including shipping, customs may charge you an arm and a leg for it after the fact.
(For a single, three-episodes DVD I ordered from Japan in December, I had to pay 86€ in customs). Make of that what you will.

Wait... what? They can't charge more than 29% (or whatever our IVA is for that product, for books it's reduced - just 8% or somehing like it) over what you paid from the product (including shipping) plus the price of clearance (we may pay another tax but only if the product is over 150€).Puto wrote:Be very careful when ordering stuff from Japan to Portugal. I've imported several things from Japan (D-arts figures), and I only paid customs over one product. The product cost me almost 100€ with shipping, but I only paid about 30€ of customs.
Are you sure you didn't use a carrier like UPS or whatever that is? Those charge an arm and a leg...
How much did your DVD cost (with shipping), by the way? Se não for muita indiscrição...

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
So, I don't know if this has been brought up yet (too lazy to check), but the "full-color comics" listings on Shueisha's website note that each volume will be shinsho/"new book" size (11 × 17 cm, same height and width as the original tankōbon), with 248 pages. This means they should each have one more chapter than the kanzenban release, for 16 chapters per volume, neatly closing out the arc with the last chapter.
Thus:
Thus:
- Saiyan arc vol. 1: 195 – 210
- Saiyan arc vol. 2: 211 – 226
- Saiyan arc vol. 3: 227 – 242

I hope it's printed on higher quality paper like the Kanzenban. I'd be kinda bummed if it were printed on the same material as the tanks.

I'm more of a fan of the black and white newsprint look, just because I can't help but associate full color with those things called comics. Manga is black and white, so I guess my old school thinking is just going to have to die.mattymoron wrote:I would kill for a fully colored version of the manga.

I think it will be high quality paper like the Kanzenban, for one reason (and the main asset of this new collection): colors.the original ero-sennin wrote:I hope it's printed on higher quality paper like the Kanzenban. I'd be kinda bummed if it were printed on the same material as the tanks.
I can't imagine them printing a fully colored edition on bad quality paper.
Since they printed the Anime Comics on glossy paper, they don't seem to be afraid of using the kind of paper that's necessary for colors.
But we'll see.
My guess is that it will be Kanzenban-style paper, since it pretty much worked well with the color pages in the Kanzenban.
Re: Would the manga have benefited from being in full color?
Manga is the Japanese word for Comics. Comics are comics whether they're made in America, Japan, or elsewhere. Always found people separating them to be a silly thing. Maybe because I'll be picking up any manga I get with the newest issue of Green Lantern when I go to the comic shop.Bardock the Mexican wrote:I'm more of a fan of the black and white newsprint look, just because I can't help but associate full color with those things called comics. No, コミック (comic) is the Japanese word for comic. 漫画 (manga) is the Japanese word for cartoon; as in a comic or an animated show.
That's why even in the animated version of Dragon Ball, the Turtle Sage still says "This is a gag-manga".

I think the point he was making is that the other guy was implying that manga is somehow more mature than comics, when in reality they are equivalent.linkdude20002001 wrote:No, コミック (comic) is the Japanese word for comic. 漫画 (manga) is the Japanese word for cartoon; as in a comic or an animated show.

Oh, is that what Bardock the Mexican meant? His wording confused me for some reason...

The way he worded it seemed to imply as much. "Those things called comics..." seems like sort of a passive denigration of them.linkdude20002001 wrote:Oh, is that what Bardock the Mexican meant? His wording confused me for some reason...
Then again, perhaps he's not a native English speaker and I'm simply reading too much into it.

So, I've heard VJump has new news about the manga in full color. Is this true? I think I heard something about the whole manga getting the color treatment.

You'll find out on the site once I get a copy to sift through. Should be another couple hours. (They don't sell V-Jump in convenience stores around here, and the nearest bookstore to my workplace doesn't open until 10.)Mewzard wrote:So, I've heard VJump has new news about the manga in full color. Really? Awesome, thanks Julian, you're the man! Now, if this is confirmed, all that will be left is to convince Viz to do an uncut release of this for us older, "Hardcore" fans, and I shall be greatly pleased.SaiyaJedi wrote:You'll find out on the site once I get a copy to sift through. Tankobon size for something like this, really? That seems strange, I really thought they'd do them kanzenban-sized or even bigger. Maybe they don't want the kanzenbans to become entirely obsolete - that sort of thing seems to be common practice these days.
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Yes, the version of the comic colorized digitally without, presumably, the original author as a consultant will certainly appease all the purists.Mewzard wrote:Really? C'mon man, Kanzenbans for life!
If you're not here soon... GET ON!
