About the recaps...

Post by Adnan » Wed Mar 01, 2006 11:46 am

There was always something I wondered about the (japanese) DBZ recaps. Why is the voice acting redone for the recap instead of just using the original dialogue from the previous episode?

I hope my question is clear enough. It's just that when watching the recaps, I notice the line delivery is completely different, which points out that they've re-recorded the dialogue for the recap. What's the point in doing that?

The point is so that they can sum up what the actors said differently to save time during the recap.

What they say in the recap are exactly the same lines as they were used in the actual episode. Only difference is that they were re-recorded so the delivery is slightly different. So how is that saving time?

 I'm sorry. I thought you were trying to say that the dialogue was different as well.

No prob.

So now, what is the point of re-recording the dialogue for the recaps? :P

Perhaps it's the same reason the directors felt it was nessacary to re-animate certain segments from the end of the previous episode into the beggining of the next one; a different take on the same event to embelish their personal style?

But who knows how coordinated the voice directors were with the animators and storyboard directors. They might have recorded a bunch of lines in different ways, and then one was selected and inserted into the episode. Now for the next episode, instead of looking back and using the same clip, they selected a different one for one reason or another.

I'm really not an expert on Toei's production methods in the late 80's/ early 90's, let alone today, so it's anyone's guess really.
So zetta slow
