My brother bought this for cheap today. I HATE the new soundtracks, but man does this bring back memories. Budokai 3 is really doing a number on my left thumb
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

The replacement music sounds off to me in Budokai 1. It felt like NBGI added in the music without thinking about how they fit with things, namely the title screen. The lack of the Japanese voice option also hurt a little. Being a dub fan, I tolerated it as best as I could, but even I can admit the old DBZ dub is weak early on. I think Kai spoiled me a little. >.<

Budokai 3 I haven't played much, admittedly. All I really did was play a little of it to switch the voices to Japanese and to see how the graphics looked compared to the original.

Technically they're not really new, just replacement.

Budokai 3 looks and sounds great....if you play on mute.

I liked the surprise of the reversable cover sleeves, I turned mine around for sure since it is worlds better than 2 Gokus just stanidng in place.

The game before it came out was already outdated, and with the music change, it only worsens its situation. NB's moves with Dragon Ball video games are getting from bad to worse.

They're new to these games specifically.

Are you talking about Budokai 1 or Budokai 3? Because I assure you Budokai 3 was nowhere near outdated in terms of gameplay mechanics. Budokai 3 is plays great to this day and while there are better iterations of gameplay in the series in the form of Infinite World and Shin Budokai 2 its still hardly outdated.

The only thing that is dated in Budokai 3 is the graphics. The gameplay is still great for a game that came out 8+ years ago.

No way, even the graphics are still tight. It looks just like the anime.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

They still do look pretty decent, but graphics can changed so much in a few years though. Makes me wish Dimps was still making games since Burst Limit's graphics are awesome.

They're making Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission.

Are they? I haven't seen them being credited as developers for either. Only seen the game using the visual accets from the PS2 games.

Is there any depth to Budokai 3 besides cancels and teleport pursuits?

Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission comes out next month in Japan. I think they could find time to make a main console game.

Dimps has many of the Datacarddas games, including Dragon Ball Heroes, listed as their work on their website. Whether or not that is residual credit from the PS2 assets being reused, I don't know. Incidentally, Pyramid, the studio that ported Budokai 1/2 to Gamecube, and made the HD Collection were credited for the earlier Datacarddas games.

That said, as far as I can tell we've received no notice that Ultimate Mission is being done by Dimps. If so, I'm quite disappointed in the visuals. Dimps has shown to be able to make very nice looking games, and Ultimate Mission wouldn't be one of them.

Can't really blame them. The graphics chip in the 3DS doesn't do anti-aliasing (IRCC). If it did, UM would look like a slightly sharper Budokai 3, which is good.

The Shin Budokai games on PSP look better than Ultimate Mission. PSP was released in 2004. 3DS in 2011.

Only just started playing Budokai 3 today. Something strange happened to me during Goku's Freeza Saga. I watched the cutscene that unlocked the Super Saiyan capsule, and usually the battle is meant to start right away with Goku automatically as a Super Saiyan, but that didn't happen. Instead, I went back to the world map and had to enter the red marker again. Goku wasn't a Super Saiyan, and the pre-fight dialogue was different.

Is there any significance to this or was it just a small oddity?

Oh and the Red Ribbon Base is in the capsule shop for 90,000 zenie when I'm sure you have to unlock Dragon Arena to get it. I think something funky is going on?

You have to equip the SS capsule yourself first, and then fight him.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Yeah, I did that and it worked. I always thought it was automatic though, and that's what the walkthrough told me (only using it so I don't miss bonuses!).
