As a benchmark, all One Piece films to be released on their own (and not as part of the defunct Toei Anime Fair or with Toriko) have been at least 90 minutes long. The last two movies, both of which had heavy involvement from the creator, have been at least 100 minutes (with the longest, Strong World, clocking in a few minutes shy of two hours).
So we can generally expect that it will be between 90 and 120 minutes long, though we should hold off on definitive proclamations until we get more information out of Eirin.
At least no one's talking about it being 45 minutes again.

By the way, how is everyone in Japan reacting to this movie? Are kids and adults walking around in convenience shops humming
Cha-La? Is it common knowledge at this point? Is there promotional material everywhere? Or is everyone still caught up in
Film Z fever?
Speaking of One Piece, I wonder if they'll put out a double pack for the home release that includes both
Battle of Gods and
Film Z. Might help BOG's sales a little bit if One Piece is there to drag it along.

120 minutes... *_*
You could do some serious fleshing-out/plot and character-driven stuff with that kinda time.
I like that OP precedents do make this a possibility.
Even if it's over 90, it'll still clock in as the longest DB animated movie. The 10th Anniversary movie is the current-longest at 80 minutes.
On hiatus.

120 minutes is a little long for what's basically fights and set up for fights. Just look how long DBZ movie 8 dragged when it tried to have a story. Though in that case it was the fight that dragged.

Perhaps we shouldn't
care what Funimation thinks.

Nobody's getting temp-banned or otherwise reprimanded for anything, but I will strongly suggest giving it a rest.

Yeah...hopefully Toriyama has the cure for that. The pacing in the manga was never a problem, so I don't know why it would be for this.

I Googled the English version of Eirin's site and didn't see a page for specific movies. Where should we keep an eye on for an official run time announcement? I've been checking
CinemaToday up until now, but if there's a better site I'd like to keep an eye out.

I went through half the theatres listed on the official website looking for a run time. Didn't have any luck.

I do not want Funimation to think we at Kanzenshuu are some kind of elitists
Way I view it, this place takes pride in being knowledgeable about the original source material. If that's elitist, then I'm glad to be a part of this community.

I'm not talking about the knowledge. I'm talking about the attitude toward Funimation. See the posts by penguintruth. We should just give it a rest.

Was only referring to the elitist thing. Something that's been on my mind for a bit. (The perception of Kanzenshuu to "outsiders")
But right you are. I'm seriously excited for this movie, even if I can't see it right away.

I shall counter that with Movie 12, which I think was paced nicely. And, well, to be fair, most of the "story telling" Toei has attempted to do on their own hasn't really been very good so I mostly blame the pacing problems on that. I think Toriyama knows a thing or two about storytelling to keep up the pace of the movie.

I assume you're referring to DBZ Movie 12.
Well, DBZ Movie 12 was around 50 minutes, DBZ Movie 8 was 70.

I don't think Movie 12 could have sustained two hours, though.
Yeah, perhaps Toriyama will make a difference, but I have a feeling his participation is mostly just ornamental ("Is this good, Mr. Toriyama?" "Sure thing, kid. Look, do you have change for this gold brick? I want to go get a soda."). 2 hours is too long for a DBZ movie and yet too short for a full DBZ story.

Actually, I think the storyline part of Movie 8 was really well done. It wasn't until the actual fight started and it turned into BROLY SMASH that it got boring.

I feel the same way. I want the fights in this movie to be huge and spectacular of course, but I hope they don't go on and on just for the sake of dragging out the film.

The animator's Toei has access to now are much better than what they had for the older movies, so I'd like to at least see fights long enough to make good use of them. At bare minimum I'd expect fights longer than what we got for the last two specials.

After a few exhaustive tries to locate scans of those 3 particular pages of Jump, I concede to "they just haven't scanned them yet".
It would be awesome of SJA gave you the entirety of the magazine as opposed to just the manga series housed within, but as most of the extras--like BOG info--happen to be Japan-specific, I can see why they don't.

I guess you haven't seen a Hayao Miyazaki movie, huh?
They're quite capable and able to hold their own against a live movie.
But since this isn't a Studio Ghibli film, and it's a dragonball film. It will most likely be 90 minutes haha.
I've completely forgot about those
