A little goof on the website
Re: A little goof on the website
Wow. That's quite the complicated case of title page of switching! Now I'm really curious as to how Kanzenshuu will sort through this mess in your guides! Julian, I'd really love to hear about your visit to Peking Duck's house on a podcast! That is my one dying podcast request!
And just to appease the theme of the thread... hmm... the DBZ Movie 13: Ore ga Yaranakya Dare ga Yaru / Yūsha no Fue ~Tapion no Tēma~ CD single in the Music Database actually retailed for ¥1000, not ¥930.

Re: A little goof on the website
Odd... Shueisha's colorized version of the first 23 chapters actually corrected the title page for chapter 13, leaving chapter 12 without one instead. And then 18 and 19 weren't fixed for some odd reason.SaiyaJedi wrote:The chapter title pages for chapters 13 and 18 were used in tankōbon volume 2 as the title pages for chapter 12 and 19 instead. The real chapter title page for chapter 19 was used as the cover for tankōbon volume 2, while the title page for chapter 12 was never reprinted. (The reason for this is probably because the actual title page had only a small illustration as a good bit of the page was taken up by the results of a vote for the most popular title page illustration thus far; the one for chapter 3 won.) Unfortunately, both of these changes carried over to kanzenban volumes 1 and 2, and since the volume covers were different as well, the actual title page for chapter 19 ended up being omitted completely.

Hmm really? I saved those first 23 colored chapters, and looking back on my files I (out of these four chapters) 19 is the only one that has a title page; the same one used in the tankoubon and kanzenban. Would you mind posting the colorized title page they used for chapter 13?linkdude20002001 wrote:Odd... Re: A little goof on the website
Viz also moved the title pages around a fair bit for their own purposes, back in the day. Especially during the era of the monthly two-chapter issues, they'd pick and choose whichever title pages they seemed to like best. So it's possible that's it's a holdover from that period, and they just got lucky in choosing the original title page without realizing it.SSj_Rambo wrote:Hmm really? With regards to Kanzenshuu, I've noticed a "goof" (if you could call it that) in our manga guide: each chapter's original appearance is given the effective publication date of the Jump issue it appeared in, rather than the sale date (when it actually came out). In Jump's case, this is usually two weeks past the sale date (for 1984 issue #51, which contained the first chapter of Dragon Ball, it had an effective publication date of Tuesday, 03 December, with an actual sale date of Tuesday, 20 November). Our mistake is probably because, at the time, they only listed the effective publication date on the cover (as "12月03号" — "the 03 December issue"). In the magazine's current cover format, it would have been written something like this to eliminate ambiguity:
1984年51号 12月03日発行11月20日発売
(1984, issue #51: effective publication 03 December, on sale 20 November)
However, the gap between effective publication and sale date doesn't always seem to be exactly two weeks — otherwise, chapter 5 would have to have been released on New Year's Day, which I find extremely unlikely, both due to it being a holiday period (running from 29 December to 03 January), and from the New Year's greeting on the title page of the following chapter. Most likely, it was released the Friday before the holiday period (28 December 1984), though I will probably need to secure Peking Duck's cooperation with scans of Jump covers and next-issue previews in order to make entirely sure. This could be a big project, but I consider it vital for the sake of accuracy on the site.

Great detective work, Julian. It's an interesting turn of events and I think it would be awesome to get both dates listed on the site.

Re: A little goof on the website
It's not really a goof, per say, since they were the only dates I could ever track down. I spent years tracking down old Weekly Jump covers, mostly from auction sites, and had to work out the majority of the dates based on the ones I could find. All the double-week issues were even harder to pinpoint since they weren't typically released on the same weekday as normal issues. I've always wanted to consult Peking Duck about the matter, but the language barrier didn't help any. If you can get him on board, I'm totally game! I'll take whatever he's willing to offer.SaiyaJedi wrote:With regards to Kanzenshuu, I've noticed a "goof" (if you could call it that) in our manga guide: each chapter's original appearance is given the effective publication date of the Jump issue it appeared in, rather than the sale date (when it actually came out).

Speaking of such, will the Weekly Jump Feature from Kanzentai be added to Kanzenshuu? It was quite a resource and compilation of info/images.

Re: A little goof on the website
The plan is to revamp it at some point, update it with additional releases, and upgrade it to its own guide.
Re: A little goof on the website
It would seem as though the premiere date for chapter 272, as can be found in both the Color Chapter Collection, as well as the Tankōbon Release, is a bit off. What I assume is the effective publication date, as listed on the front cover of Weekly Shōnen Jump 1990 Vol.21-22, is May 14th (as opposed to May 4th).

Re: A little goof on the website
I know that this isn't the perfect topic for this but I read the Non-Story Manga Aspects page and I found a missing influence. In the 2nd ending of DBGT we can see the tankoubon volume 33 cover. (Cell, Super Saiyan Gohan)

so, what is the date for the 29th anniversary of dragonball actually if not tomorrow, any new insights?SaiyaJedi wrote:Viz also moved the title pages around a fair bit for their own purposes, back in the day. Another question: i´ve buyed the Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump 1988, Issue #47 becouse i thougth the "publication date" would be the 31. October 1988, my exact birthday, but do i understand right, the given date (http://www.kanzenshuu.com/manga/chp-197/) isnt the "public" releasedate of this issue were readers could buy the magazine in stores?

Re: A little goof on the website
Well, like I said, it was actually back on the Wednesday before last, 20 November, not tomorrow. Though since Jump was widely available on Mondays, most people probably got the magazine a day early, which puts the anniversary at just shy of two weeks ago.oldboy88 wrote:so, what is the date for the 29th anniversary of dragonball actually if not tomorrow, any new insights?
That is correct. The official release date would have been 18 October 1988. I wouldn't be disappointed, though: 197 is an awesome chapter.Another question: i´ve buyed the Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump 1988, Issue #47 becouse i thougth the "publication date" would be the 31. (Incidentally, I would be most appreciative if you could check and see what the next-issue preview says about the release date for 1988 #48. It should be 25 October, but I want to be sure.)

Re: A little goof on the website
1988 #20 came out on 12 April. The "18 April" on #19 is the effective date of the magazine, which is confusing, and why they now display the actual release date more prominently on the cover. They still do the effective-date thing for the monthly magazines, though, which is why the January issues of both V-Jump and Saikyō Jump are already out, despite it only being December.oldboy88 wrote:25.
