Yeah, the Kanzenshuu portion of my life has kind of been lived in this thread for the past several months.![]()
I was seriously at a crossroads with DB this time last year, and I'm still not sure what I'll be doing related to it after BOG has come and gone, but for now I'm enjoying the lead-up to this party that pretty much came out of nowhere and stunned me back in July. If this is the final big hurrah for DB stuff that interests me, so be it, but I'm gonna have a blast with BOG while it's here. :3

Several things, but the biggest one is time. I've been in this fandom a long, long time by internet standards (13 years this summer) and I'd been starting to feel like I'd seen everything DB-related that could possibly interest me. I felt like I'd drawn all the fanart I'd wanted to draw for it, written all the fics I'd wanted to write. In DB terms I guess the best way I could describe it is that awful "is there nothing more?" feeling I saw Goku grapple with in the 08 special (which I could relate to more and more as time went by). The most recent thing prior to BOG that was DB-related that really interested me was the DBO timeline update about Age 801 with Goku and Vegeta's tragic end, and that's a few years gone at this point.Sinestro wrote:What brought you to this crossroads, if you don't mind me asking?
Back to the crossroads, it didn't really help matters that the landscape on DA was changing (and had been) in that a lot of those whose art I followed were either leaving the fandom, or were no longer posting at all. I would still draw for myself, because I still enjoy it, but I admit there is an energy that's present when you have a group of artists sharing their art and bouncing ideas off of one another and just generally being fans together.
I was also terribly afraid of overstaying my time for fear of one day resenting it. I didn't and don't want to end up like others who have left this fandom in tired dislike of it. I want to be able to look back on this era with fond feelings and memories.
While there have been many different anime and manga series that I've followed over the years, DB's the only one that I've been this actively involved in, so it's special to me in that way.
This is why, for me personally, BOG is exciting. Near-everything I've learned about it so far has left me with a positive feeling. This is new, crazy, fun DB animation the likes that I've wanted to see for a long while. It's snapped me out of my funk, bought me some time, and given me a nice chunk of inspiration for my art. I still don't know where I'll be after the ride is over, but I'm having fun while it's rolling.

So basically it comes down to these:
1. Burned out with the franchise
2. People leaving the fandom
Is that what you're saying?

Wait...
So Shoko-tan's voicing in the movie?
And the antagonist is a big cat god?
Why don't I see this ending well?

That poor kitty. XD
I guess her voicing a fish after this odd photo-shoot of sorts makes for another fun "in hindsight" coincidence to add to Yamadera's cat-related Disney cover songs.

Maybe sports would work better? I've entered double overtime. I'm in the middle of an extra inning. It's coming down to sudden death; that sort of thing.

Purple one at the top left is "Everybody wants to be a Cat" and the purple one further down on the right is "Circle of Life".

Yup, pretty much. You can't run a ship alone, and you've got to dock some time. I don't want to be on the boat so long that I get sick of the sea.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:So basically it comes down to these:

Shoko Nakagawa is voicing a policewoman. It's gold medalist Kaori Matsumoto who is voicing the fish.Chuquita wrote:I guess her voicing a fish after this odd photo-shoot of sorts makes for another fun "in hindsight" coincidence to add to Yamadera's cat-related Disney cover songs.

*Kind of wants Shoko-fish and Birusu to sing a duet now.* >_>
This could never work as a musical though, not with Goku's singing voice.

But I have felt it, being a comic fan. I've fallen in that funk with Marvel and DC comics.

I just imagined a Dragonball musical ala-Disney. Oh god it's hilarious.Chuquita wrote:*Kind of wants Shoko-fish and Birusu to sing a duet now.* >_>

Imagine an intense moment where Goku and Birusu stare at each other for 10 seconds, and then Goku starts singing all of a sudden and then Birusu joins him in a duet while they fight dance.
Yeah I've drank too much coffee.

All of it.
Birusu's got such an awesome singing voice I would adore for them to utilize that, and while I find Goku's speaking voice really cute, his singing voice...is very Goku.
Found a Nozawa character song that's not Goku, even though it still sounds like him (well, child Goku anyway) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwaAjt_ULs8
Adult Goku has never gotten a character song; I think it'd be neat if BOG or the Buu arc of Kai remedy that. >_>
Somehow I think Adult Goku's singing voice would sound better than Child Goku's.
This past January was the first time I've ever really felt that with DB. It only affected my participation-motivation though, not my enjoyment of the characters and series. This lasted up until July when the movie was first announced. So if BOG hadn't happened, even though I'd still like the characters that I like in DB just as much, my online activity both here and on DA probably would've continued to steadily drop and it's possible it would've become like all the other series I follow but never actually do anything with. Basically I would've eventually become a lurker, or at worst vanished entirely due to a lack of new, fun DB stuff to play with.Sinestro wrote: Ah, I see.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Theory: Bils wants to eat Shoko-fish, Shoko-fish saves herself by telling him about Goku, the fight somehow leads back Bils' lair/dimension with the hourglasses, Goku tries to eat the fish.
