DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
As the title says, is DBZ one of your favorite cartoons, if not your favorite? For myself, it was one of mine at one time. Now, I don't really know what my favorites are, and admit I haven't really watched DBZ in a long time. What would you guys say?

But yeah I'm exactly the same, DBZ was my favorite show when I as a kid and will always be one of my favorites, but like you I haven't watched the series in over a decade now and maybe it's better that way, maybe it's for the best that I remember DBZ for what it was to me at the time instead of watching it now when I'm a lot more critical of what I watch.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
DB (the entire series not just pre Z) is my favorite Japanese cartoon and my second favorite cartoon in general, first place goes to The Simpsons.
Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are indeed two of my favorite cartoons. I am on a Dragon Ball message board, after all!!
Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Dragonball Z is without a doubt my favorite TV show of all time. I've been watching it since I was a little kid and I still watch it at 24 years old. Dragonball is also my favorite, but to a lesser extent. But if you think of both shows as one and the same, then that's even better, lol.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Reading through my 5th grade year book, I list down DBZ, Digimon and The Simpsons as my favorite shows on TV
. DBZ is one of my favorite shows, but it's not my main favorite. I like other shows much better then DBZ and I doubt it will be on my Top 15.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Well there is a reason that I'm even on this message board at all
Dragon Ball (referring to the whole series) is definitely up there among my favourite TV shows, and favourite stories in general. I'm pretty sure it's my favourite animated series.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
When I first saw the topic title, I thought I would agree immediately to it. But then when I actually thought about it, it turns out it wasn't my favorite cartoon, not even close. It wouldn't even crack my top 20, maybe the original DB could come close but certainly not DBZ. I still like it, but I just don't enjoy just down and watching it as much as other shows. It's too flawed, too difficult to marathon through episodes, and just better in smaller quantities.
Don't get me wrong, I still like the TV adaptations (some more than others) and the comic is probably my favorite of any country origin. I certainly think it's all aspects of the franchise and fandom that make me a big fan of Dragon Ball. Because when I try to compare the show to my other favorites, it has a hard time measuring up.

If it wasn't my favorite, I don't think I'd be here.

...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
As a kid growing up it sure was. But as an adult, it lacks in depth and rewatch value; in addition to the anime's length, the fillers can really drag out and become incoherent.
Nevertheless, it has its endearing qualities and is a part of why I've still held on to the series for so long. Dragonball isn't remotely deep or complex for series, and it doesn't have to nor does it try to be. It is still enjoyable, where its simplicity makes for a good gateway anime/manga to get into.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
When I was a kid, I thought it was the hottest shit in town. The character dynamics and fight scenes were awesome. Not to mention it was better animated than a bulk of the stuff I grew up with (at least the Majin Boo Saga was).
I don't regarded it nearly as highly as I used to because of the 'drag-on' aspect, rapidly varying animation quality, and it does gradully peter out into being plotless drivel after the Freeza Saga. I still argue it as a great show overall, and it's still high on my favorites list of cartoons (my top favorite is Tom and Jerry). I might write a review on it in the future.

Haven't we already gotten these in GT? Goku dies, the DBs go away, and the Namekian DBs most likely won't be used again because of the Evil Dragons.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
I personally hated DBZ when it was popular at first. I got into the series when I was bit older (around 10) and it became my main favorite. As a kid, I hated it for being stupid. I think the original DB anime might be on my Top 15, but not DBZ. GT might be on my bottom list though

I have no idea how someone could argue that anime isn't a cartoon.
But, I mean, DBZ is probably my favorite. It's hard for me to choose between DBZ and Justice League, Batman: The Animated Series, Gargoyles...they've all been my favorite cartoon at one time or another. DBZ is undoubtedly the one that I still watch the most.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
I can never pick a favourite animated show out of everything I've seen in my life. It's like trying to pick a favourite movie or song of all time. There's just too many sub catagories to consider and some of them aren't even comparable.
Also I've never liked to be over critical of shows I grew up with. Once you start dissecting something that holds nostalgic value you just ruin it for yourself.

Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are my favourite TV shows full stop.
Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
I know a lot of people who'd be offended if I called one of their favorite anime a cartoon, I think it's just the connotations that come with the word cartoon. It makes us think of something immature and childish like Tom & Jerry (which is a great cartoon).mattymoron wrote:I have no idea how someone could argue that anime isn't a cartoon.
I don't have this mindset myself but I'm sure if you googled it there'd be a whole range of responses. Mostly grown men who don't want to admit they still watch cartoons.

DBZ is my favorite cartoon. They just don't make shows this good anymore.
