State of the Kanzenshuu: Phase 3 Begins

Post by Hujio » Fri Jan 04, 2013 12:13 am

When we first starting serious discussions about Kanzenshuu, we set a launch date of 21 December 2012 (you know, the end of world day). Instead we decided to push the envelope a little and shoot for April Fools' Day. Unfortunately it meant we couldn't launch with everything we had originally planned and had to sacrifice a few things. We said we'd get them done eventually, and I know while it seems that we're moving at the pace of snails (in internet time), we've actually come quite a long way. So, where are we? Here's a rundown of what's happened so far, and what's planned:
  • Phase 1a -- Launch Website (01 April 2012)
  • Phase 1b -- Launch Forum & Integrate w/ Website (11 April 2012)
  • Phase 2a -- Upgrade Website (10 December 2012)
  • Phase 2b -- Upgrade Forum (31 December 2012)
  • Phase 3 -- Launch Wiki (N/A)
Yep, now that the site and forum are pretty much squared away, the next project up on the docket is the infamous Kanzenshuu Wiki. At the moment we're still in the preliminary stages, so there's definitely a lot left to get done. Besides all of the programming that will go into this project, a large chunk of it will simply be setting rules and permissions, creating style guides, establishing formatting, pulling content together, etc. But all you have to worry about right now is that things are in the works, so hold on to your pants! :P

I'll definitely look forward to it. A lot has happened last year, and I'm looking forward more this year.

Sure am glad Daizex and Kanzentai has fused into all-powerful Kanzenshuu. I wonder if it's stronger than SSJ4 Gogeta... :P

Mazaka!

I'm lookin' forward to it, although I'm not much one for writing up too much. I'm looking forward to adding bits and pieces to the Wiki, though!

I highly doubt there's anything I could bring to the wiki, as my knowledge is constantly being shown to be not as much as I'd hope when I come here - but I certainly look forward to the Wiki being up for me to reference!

At last, an accurate Dragon Ball Wiki will see the light of the day.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I'm sure you'd find ways to help out. Sometimes it's not the information itself that counts, but how well it's presented. A good chunk of perfecting a wiki is editing it and rewriting things so that they're clear and concise.

Having a "State of the Kanzenshuu" update is pretty neat. Though I understand that with most content the element of surprise is a major factor, it's nice to get an idea of what's to come around here! Looking forward to all that is in store and more opportunities to contribute!!

Are you ever going to put up pictures and scans again????

That was the thing I really enjoyed about the old Kanzentai webpage.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

I don't know why people hate the Dragon Ball wiki, it has never failed me.

Cool about this website's wiki.

1) It has dub-only terminology & information, and rarely refers to the original version, which results to carrying inconsistencies from the dub (for example, they state in the Shunkan Ido page that it allows Goku to move at the speed of light, and has Kaio as a user, which are both false & dub-only)

2) There are times that they treat rumors as facts (for example, Piccolo being originally planned to be taken under Babidi's control instead of Vegeta).

3) The wiki is partially a fan-fiction. They make-up names, and there are information that are not from taken from any official source (Popo being a genie for example), making the wiki an unreliable source. They also use fan-made names sometimes, even if there is an official name for it (for example, they use Ultra Super Saiyan, while there is the official name is Super Saiyan Grade 2).

It has a table at the side which lists names for the Japanese and, other language versions. I've never seen this fanfiction. Maybe they call Mr Popo a genie cus he wears genie clothing and flies via a magic carpet?

It's more than good enough for me, but good luck creating a better one.

There are constantly threads (such as this one) that all start out with "I read on Dragon Ball Wikia / Encyclopedia..." that invariably end with us having to explain how their information is wrong, why it is wrong, where the wrongness likely comes from, and what the actual information is.

If you're looking for what Goku's name is, sure, it's hard to get some of that stuff wrong. Anything else? Particularly anything that requires more than a casual look at FUNimation's English dub to even remotely know what you're talking about? Vast majority is beyond incorrect.

If this is a wiki what's to stop someone from editing a page to their liking?

1) You'll have to be a member of this community to even do anything.

2) Self-policing community here.

3) We're Kanzenshuu, bitches.

There's some of that planned for the initial rollout. No need to worry about it just yet, though :).
