That's a kinda of fanfic, right? How did it get to be such a 'thing' among the fandom.
Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
Wasn't it at first a April Fools joke from Toei?

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
It was a long running rumor and eventual April Fools joke(AF) that spun way out of control thanks to a bunch of Fan Made images, synopsis and episode guides. VegettoEX and this site(when it was DaizenshuuEX) contributed themselves...Majin Steve wrote:That's a kinda of fanfic, right? How did it get to be such a 'thing' among the fandom.
"In fact, we took advantage of this on April Fool’s Day 2004, with a massive prank “announcing” the new series — we even had a “commercial” and a “print ad,” just as we outlined above for the real deal! Nevertheless, we would still be just as excited as the next fan about any new DB coming out of Japan. In fact, we were that excited when we broke the details about the Jump Super Anime Tour special; note how these kinds of things get almost immediate and universal attention on fan websites and mainstream sites alike, rather than the “underground” and secretive conversations around the supposed Dragon Ball AF."
Here is a breakdown of the whole thing in this sites Rumor Guide:

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
Seriously? I thought AF was real for a day back in 2003, but I knew it was fake when I found out that people were able to make their own images with MS paint. I thought people would know that AF would be fake by this point.SSJ YUSUKE wrote:Anthything about AF, I have actually met people at univeristy who believe that AF is real.

My introduction to AF was before I even got into DB, I read an article in a kids mag I used to read that said that AF was fake, so I new the truth right from the start.

I get tired of hearing all of these dub fans constantly complaining about the Japanese version. They think that the Faulconer tracks are superior to the Kikuchi score. It gets pretty aggravating.

To be fair, the other side is surely the greater perpetrator of this.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:I get tired of hearing all of these dub fans constantly complaining about the Japanese version. They think that the Faulconer tracks are superior to the Kikuchi score. It gets pretty aggravating.

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
On the subject of dub fans bashing the original I find it kinda funny since in most other anime fandoms it's the other way round.
Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
It's not like the opposite doesn't happen in Dragon Ball either.ringworm128 wrote:On the subject of dub fans bashing the original I find it kinda funny since in most other anime fandoms it's the other way round.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
People can think Faulconer is better if they want. I for one find myself listening to a lot of his stuff while I work on stuff or while I play video games. On the other hand I rarely find myself willingly listening to any of Kikushi's stuff. People often forget that Faulconer did compose for DBZ just like Kikuchi did. Its just a matter of what sound you prefer. I'm in the middle. I think Faulconer sounds better no contest but there are times where it just doesn't shut up and it gets annoying however Kikuchi is pretty alright and it knows when to have silence.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:I get tired of hearing all of these dub fans constantly complaining about the Japanese version. Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
Where are all these people you guys keep talking about? I've never really met anybody like this. Most people I talk to outside of this site are fond of the original Funimation dub sure but they've never claimed it to be superior to the Japanese version or anything like that. It's just the show they grew up with; the version they know and really the only version they care to know. I've never talked to anyone that was like "FUCK THE JAPANESE VERSION! SHITS GAY!" Not once, ever.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:I get tired of hearing all of these dub fans constantly complaining about the Japanese version. Most Americans don't like anything that is foreign. Sad but true.

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
That is completely false. Nevermind the fact that if I were to go outside right now I'd see more foreign cars than American ones; the fact that Nintendo, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and etc. are household names; or the fact that the country is one big melting pot. Putting all those things aside, the anime boom of the last ten years seems to say otherwise. Anime and Manga legends like Goku, Spike and Kenshin now stand side by side next to Spiderman and Batman in the eyes of the current generation. Oh and lets not forget this site was built and is run by a guy from New Jersey.Hellspawn28 wrote:Most Americans don't like anything that is foreign. Sad but true.

And hear me out on this.
Musical tastes
are not universal.
Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
On most forums other than Kanzenshuu, which tend not to be DB-specific, the most common opinion by far does seem to be that the Faulconer music greatly improved DBZ, as the Kikuchi score doesn't fit the badass tone of the series at all and sounds old and cheesy. There are also a plentiful supply of complaints that Goku sounds like a girl. I used to be among the people saying that stuff.
